Chip 'n' Dale (W WDC214-03)
Pete Alvarado was an artist born in New Mexico, who worked as an assistant animator with theDisney Studios between 1937 and 1939 and in 1941. He was also a background and layout artist on Warner Bros cartoons in the 1940s. During the same period, he started out working for comic books. He was affiliated with Funnies Inc between 1939 and 1941, doing adventure stories for Timely/Marvel and Fawcett.
The Rescuers
He joined Western Publishing in 1948, where he did licensed comics withDisney, Warner, MGM,Walter Lantz andHanna-Barbera characters until the 1980s. He did comics with various Disney characters, including 'Donald Duck', 'Chip 'n' Dale', 'Mickey Mouse', 'Winnie the Pooh' and 'Li'l Bad Wolf', as well as the comic adaptation of 'The Rescuers'. He also drew comics for the foreign market production of the Disney Studios (1966-71).
Road Runner
His Warner Bros credits include stories withTex Avery's 'Bugs Bunny' and 'Daffy Duck',Bob McKimson andFriz Freleng's 'Speedy Gonzales', Freleng's 'Tweety & Sylvester',Alex Lovy's 'Merlin the Magic Mouse' andChuck Jones' 'Mary Jane & Sniffles'. Alvarado was the artist of most of the early 'Road Runner' comics, based on Chuck Jones' cartoon character. Through Western, he also did art on daily features like 'Roy Rogers' (1948-57), 'Gene Autry' (1952) - which were both based on popular western actors - and 'Mr. Magoo' (1964-66). From 1987 to 1990 he drew the 'Donald Duck' daily and Sunday page.
In addition to comic books, Alvarado remained active in animation, working for studios like DePatie-Freleng, Republic Pictures, Hanna-Barbera, Ruby-Spears Productions and Filmation Associates, until the early 1990s.
