Zantetsuken is a technique introduced inKingdom Hearts Final Mix. It allows the user to execute a single, impossibly fastKeyblade strike, usually dealing a devastating amount of damage.
Mechanics[edit]
InKingdom Hearts Final Mix, Zantetsuken is acombat ability that costs 2AP to equip. It givesSora a 30% chance to deliver a ground combo finisher that dealsPercentage damage equivalent to 250% of the enemy's HP. After hitting the target, Sora takes 1.1 seconds to recover.
InKingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, Zantetsuken is anattack sleight that renders the opponent's cards unreloadable when breaking them with it, no matter if it hits or misses, and deals a small amount of damage. If a sleight or card stack gets broken by Zantetsuken, all three cards become unreloadable. The broken cards may still be restored throughItem cards that reload unreloadable cards such as Elixirs, however. It has no effect on enemies or bosses that do not use card decks, and it does not affect cards broken through a tie. Additionally, Zantetsuken can be used to repeatedly card break bosses with card decks, and eventually breaking nearly their entire deck in order to render them unable to attack while they fruitlessly keep reloading their said deck.
InKingdom Hearts II Final Mix, Zantetsuken is anaction ability available inLimit Form. It is a ground combo finisher that activates when Sora is attacking a single target. It is three times as strong as a normal finisher, making it the most powerful single-hitting attack available to Sora, although it eats up an entire Form Gauge withoutForm Boost equipped. TheZantetsu Counter ability allows Sora to use it as a counterattack during a successful Guard.
InKingdom Hearts Re:coded, Zantetsuken is anattack command that has a memory consumption of 22% and a normal reload time of 25 seconds. On top of its high critical hit rate, it deals 50% more added damage than normal when dealing a critical hit and boosts the Clock Gauge 50% more than usual. If theZantetsu Prime ability is active, Zantetsuken will destroy non-boss enemies in a single stroke if a critical hit is dealt, tripling the normal Clock Gauge boost if successful. If used in midair, Data-Sora will return to the ground before performing the attack.
InKingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Zantetsuken is an Ultimateattack command exclusive toTerra that may destroy enemies in a single stroke. It takes up one slot in the Command Deck, has a maximum level of 5 and a normal reload time of 20 seconds, and fills the Command Gauge by 40%. The activation of Zantetsuken is indicated by the surroundings darkening and the weapon glowing.
InKingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Zantetsuken is anattack command exclusive toRiku that inflicts theZantetsuken status to the target if activated. It takes up two slots in the Command Deck and has a reload time of 32 seconds. It grants +4 toStrength when attached to aDream Eater recipe. When used, there is a 50% chance that Zantetsuken's status effect will be activated, indicated by the camera tilting and a screen cut effect once Riku warps behind the enemy. Enemies without Zantetsuken resistance will be defeated with a single blow, while enemies with Zantetsuken resistance instead take a 1.6 power neutral damage attack. In the original 3DS version of the game, activating and landing a failed Zantetsuken as a Portal's time limit expires, or when exiting the portal manually, can sometimes cause the game to softlock by having Riku be frozen in place.
InKingdom Hearts Union χ, Zantetsuken is aspecial attack that targets all enemies. It costs 2 special attack gauges to perform. It inflicts more damage the lower the user's HP.

Origin[edit]
In theFinal Fantasy series,Zantetsuken (斬鉄剣?, lit. "Iron-Cutting Sword") is the signature attack of the summonOdin, and is sometimes mimicked byGilgamesh. It typically inflicts Instant Death upon all enemies. It shares its name with arecurring weapon. The term Zantetsuken is derived from a nickname given to swords crafted by Japanese swordsmithYasuhiro Kobayashi, who attempted to use materials other than steel to be able to craft swords seemingly more potent than iron and steel itself, though this claim has been debunked quite often.
