Swimming is a form of movement that appears inKingdom Hearts,Kingdom Hearts Final Mix,Kingdom Hearts II,Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix,Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep,Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix,Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, andKingdom Hearts III. In some games, characters can only swim on the water's surface, while in others, they can swim in three dimensions underwater.

Mechanics[edit]

Surface swimming[edit]

Surface swimming appears inKingdom Hearts,Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep,Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, andKingdom Hearts III. While in the water, the character will swim around in a breast-stroke style. They cannot jump, and must get to a shore in order to get out of the water.

InKingdom Hearts, surface swimming is possible at theSeashore andCove in Destiny Islands, theMystical House andSecret Waterway in Traverse Town,Hippos' Lagoon in Deep Jungle, theRelic Chamber,Dark Chamber,Silent Chamber, andHidden Room in Agrabah,Monstro: Mouth in Monstro, and theHunny Tree andWood: Hill in 100 Acre Wood.Sora can swim faster by tappingCircle with a breaststroke, which evolves into a dolphin kick-motion for even further distance ifMermaid Kick is equipped.

InKingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, surface swimming is available at theMermaid Lagoon andCove in Neverland. InKingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix, surface swimming can also be used in theMonster of the Sea match in theMirage Arena.Terra,Ventus, andAqua can swim faster by holdingCircle.

InKingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, surface swimming is only available to Riku, in Monstro: Mouth inPrankster's Paradise, andSnowgleam Wood in Symphony of Sorcery.

Enemies can appear in swimmable maps inKingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep andKingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, but they will despawn upon going in the water's surface.

InKingdom Hearts III, surface swimming is possible at theMarsh andWharf in theKingdom of Corona and the High Seas and Port Royal inthe Caribbean. Entering bodies of water where surface swimming is possible will immediately cancel any activeFormchange orLink Summon, remove any availableSituation Command, and prevent Sora from switchingKeychains until reaching dry land.

Underwater swimming[edit]

Sora, Donald, and Goofy can swim underwater in all three dimensions inKingdom Hearts,Kingdom Hearts II, andKingdom Hearts III.

InKingdom Hearts andKingdom Hearts II, underwater swimming is limited toAtlantica. InKingdom Hearts, Sora can dive withSquare and rise withCircle. IfMermaid Kick is equipped, he can double tapCircle orSquare (or tap both buttons in any order) to swim forwards at a far distance while continuing to hold down the chosen button. In combat, he cannot block, dodge, or use combo modifiers, unique finishers,Summons orSpecial abilities, but can still use items, basicKeyblade combos, and magic. InKingdom Hearts II, diving and rising are instead performed by movingRight Stick. Sora can also swim faster withX and useDolphin Kick withCircle.

InKingdom Hearts III, the party can swim underwater inThe Caribbean andScala ad Caelum. Only Sora, Donald, and Goofy can swim underwater;Jack Sparrow will temporarily leave the party when diving underwater. Sora can dive underwater by pressingL2 while surface swimming or by landing into the water while diving. While underwater, he can ascend withR2, descend withL2, and swim faster by spinning theKeyblade like a propeller by holdingCircle; he can adjust his trajectory withLeft Stick. His underwater combo consists of a horizontal spin attack, three thrusts that spawn bubbles with limited homing properties, a vertical slash that leaves a shockwave in its wake, and spinning the Keyblade like a propeller to create a burst of wind for the finisher. He can also dodge and block, and his offensive spells work differently underwater with specific sea designations, with the exception ofWater spells which cannot be used. However, underwater swimming disables most battle mechanics, including switching Keychains, Formchanges, Situation Commands,Shotlocks,Airstepping, Link Summons,Attractions andFlowmotion.

Other appearances[edit]

Kingdom Hearts V CAST[edit]

InKingdom Hearts for V CAST, Sora can swim on the surface of bodies of water. He cannot jump out of the water or move backwards while swimming.
