Wonderland is aworld fromKingdom Hearts,Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories,Kingdom Hearts coded,Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, andKingdom Hearts χ. It is based on Walt Disney's 1951 feature filmAlice in Wonderland.
Settings and Areas[edit]
Kingdom Hearts[edit]
WhenSora,Donald, andGoofy first arrive in Wonderland, they find themselves floating down aRabbit Hole (うさぎの穴, Usagi no Ana?) into the house of theWhite Rabbit, which is a large room with a hallway. The hallway leads to the main room, called theBizarre Room (不思議な部屋, Fushigi na Heya?, lit. "Curious Room"), which has a table with "Drink Me" bottles that cause the drinker to grow or shrink in size. The Rabbit's furniture can be folded up into the walls or flattened to change the room's structure, reveal treasures, or open new doors. Different entrances around Wonderland lead back to theBizarre Room and causes the gravity to shift, allowing Sora and company to explore the walls and ceiling of the room.
Entering the door behind the bed leads to theQueen's Castle (ハートの女王の城, Hāto no Joō no Shiro?, lit. "Castle of the Queen of Hearts"), where one of the world'sSave Points can be found. Here theQueen of Hearts runs her pointless court sessions, and is where the battle against theCard Soldiers is fought. After the battle the Queen's judges bench is lowered and the witness stand is gone along with other elements. The red heart patterned carpet is also gone and room overall feels a lot more open. Going through an opening to the left will take Sora and party to theLotus Forest (ハスの森, Hasu no Mori?). It's big forest full of giant mushrooms and flowers which ask for potions and other items; one flower can be given a potion to make Sora grow larger. Various items across the forest can be manipulated - depending on Sora's size - such as the stump, the boulder, and the tree in the center of the wood. Knocking the nut from the tree and consuming it will return Sora to a shrunken state.
At the end of the forest is a passage to theTea Party Garden (ティーパーティー会場, Tī Pātī Kaijō?, lit. "Tea Party Venue") area, where the Mad Hatter and March Hare's tea party is laid out. The hosts themselves are imprisoned in a portrait on the wall, but sitting on the chairs around the table can grant prizes or penalties. The portrait also changes depending on the prize/penalty. Right next to the table is a house that's one of the aforementioned entrances leading back to the Bizarre Room.
The world'sKeyhole is found within the mouth of theDoorknob.
Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories[edit]
AtCastle Oblivion a memory version of Wonderland is constructed from Sora's memories. The world can be explored through boxed-in areas drawing heavy inspiration from either the Lotus Forest or the Queen's Court. In cutscenes, areas such as theLotus Forest, theQueen's Court, and theBizarre Room are visited, with both the latter two areas also serving as a boss arenas.
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days[edit]
InKingdom Hearts 358/2 Days the world retains all the same areas as from the first game but is expanded upon with the inclusion of four new areas. Instead of theBizarre Room (不思議な部屋, Fushigina Heya?, lit. "Curious Room") leading straight to Queen's Court, now renamedQueen's Castle (女王の城, Joō no Shiro?), there's now theHedge Maze Entrance (迷路庭園入口, Meiro Teien Iriguchi?, lit. "Maze Garden Entrance") in between the two areas. On each side of the small hallway are two entrances. One leads to theWhite Rose Hedge Maze (白いバラの迷路庭園, Shiroi Bara no Meiro Teien?, lit. "Maze Garden of White Roses") while the other leads to two areas both namedRed Rose Hedge Maze (赤いバラの迷路庭園, Akai Bara no Meiro Teien?, lit. "Maze Garden of Red Roses"). The giant mazes are either guarded by Card Soldiers, or inhabited by Heartless.

Kingdom Hearts coded[edit]
InKingdom Hearts Re:coded most of the areas present in the first game return within the data version of Wonderland, though how each area connect is completely different, with a lot of new rooms in between. When Data-Sora arrives he meets Alice in theClearing (中央広場, Chūō Hiroba?, lit. "Central Square"), a squared room in the center of Wonderland with four exits to other areas. One of these areas is theHedge Maze (迷いの庭, Mayoi no Niwa?, lit. "Garden of Confusion") which further to connects to theBizarre Room (不思議な部屋, Fushigi na Heya?, lit. "Curious Room"), as well as theLotus Forest (ハスの森, Hasu no Mori?). The latter area having a completely different layout from previous versions and only resembling those in aesthetics. The Lotus Forest further connects to two other mazes, theRose Garden (バラの園, Bara no En?) and theAimless Path (迷いの小道, Mayoi no Komichi?, lit. "Trail of Hesitation"), both of which leading back to the Clearing. The former area differ from the worlds two other mazes with having several heart shaped hedges teleport you around the room; making it much harder to navigate. The latter maze also connects to theTea Party Garden (ティーパーティー会場, Tī Pātī Kaijō?, lit. "Tea Party Venue").
Once Alice regain all her memories, her and Data-Sora head for the Queen's Court now renamedThe Queen's Castle (ハートの女王の城, Hāto no Joō no Shiro?, lit. "Queen of Hearts's Castle"), where they also find the Keyhole. As Data-Sora enters theKeyhole (鍵穴, Kagiana?), he'll have to make his way through three bugged areas calledKeyhole / The Falsewood (鍵穴:鍵穴惑わしの森, Kagiana: Madowashi no Mori?, lit. "Keyhole: Forest of Delusion"),Keyhole / Fleeting Forest (鍵穴:うつろいの森, Kagiana: Utsuroi no Mori?, lit. "Keyhole: Forest of Vicissitude"), andKeyhole / Terminus (鍵穴:最深部, Kaigana: Saishinbu?, lit. "Keyhole: Deepest Part").
The world is also overflown withBug Bloxes which at times can be traversed. FourSystem Sectors can be found as well within Wonderland. One is on the table in the Bizarre Room, another's on a wall in the Hedge Maze, a third is on the ground inside the Aimless Path, and the last is located on top of a small lily pad between two larger lily pads within the Lotus Forest.

Kingdom Hearts χ[edit]
Wonderland appears as a world once again inKingdom Hearts χ andKingdom Hearts Union χ through theBook of Prophecies. ThePlayer first enters the world by falling through theRabbit Hole which then lands them at theCurious Room (不思議な部屋, Fushigina Heya?); a combined version the areas known in previous games as Rabbit Hole and Bizarre Room. A passage on the left side leads to theBack Garden (裏庭の草むら, Uraniwa no Kusamura?, lit. "Backyard Grass"), and from there Player can reach an upside-down version of theCurious Room (不思議な部屋(壁面), Fushigina Heya (Hekimen)?, lit. "Curious Room (Wall surface)"). After shrinking in size Player can pass through the Doorknob which leads to theForest Grove (はじまりの森・木陰, Hajimari no Mori: Kokage?, lit. "Forest of Beginning: Shade") and eventually theForest Thicket (はじまりの森・草むら, Hajimari no Mori: Kusamura?, lit. "Forest of Beginning: Grass"). As the Player is shrunken in size, they'll be surrounded by tall grass and flowers as they navigate these areas. Beyond the Forest Thicket lies theMorning Dew Grove: Clearing (朝露の森・木陰, Asatsuyu no Mori: Kokage?, lit. "Morning Dew Forest: Shade"), where there's a plant which can be climbed, bringing the Player to theMorning Dew Grove: Upper Level (朝露の森・上層, Asatsuyu no Mori: Jōsō?, lit. "Morning Dew Forest: Upper Layer").
Ascending the plants and flowers in the Morning Dew Grove areas leads to the large junctionFork in the Road (おかしな分岐路, Okashina Bunki-ji?, lit. "Odd Fork"). A sprawling forest overflown with signs pointing in all directions. The southeast exit of the Fork in the Road leads to theMorning Dew Grove: Mid Level (朝露の森・中層, Asatsuyu no Mori: Chūsō?, lit. "Morning Dew Forest: Middle Layer"). Following the path of flowers leads to theMorning Dew Grove: Fallen Tree (朝露の森・倒木, Asatsuyu no Mori: Tōboku?, lit. "Morning Dew Forest: Fallen Tree"), which is a giant log that can be traversed. The northeast exit of the Fork in the Road leads to theWhite Rabbit's House (白ウサギの家, Shiro Usagi no Ie?), while the northwest exit leads to theTea Party Garden (ティーパーティ会場, Tī Ppāti Kaijō?, lit. "Tea Party Venue").
A hidden passage through a tree trunk in the Fork in the Road leads to theGarden Maze (生垣の迷路, Ikegaki no Meiro?, lit. "Hedge Maze"), which consists of five areas. At the end of the Garden Maze liesThe Queen's Castle (ハートの女王の城, Hāto no Joō no Shiro?, lit. "Queen of Hearts's Castle"), which is where the Queen of Hearts conducts her trial, with her actual castle a bit off in the distance.
Story[edit]
Kingdom Hearts χ[edit]
Arriving in Wonderland,Player attempts to go through a small door, but is unable to pass due to their size. TheDoorknob suggests that Player advises that drink the bottle that had just appeared on the table in the center of the room. When a Heartless steals the bottle, Player retrieves it and drinks it to pass through the door.Quest 16: The Stolen Bottle
On the other side of the door, Player is able to regain their natural size by eating mushrooms and encountersAlice. Although Alice is relieved by Player's normality, she remains preoccupied with theWhite Rabbit's whereabouts and chases after him when he rushes by. TheCheshire Cat then approaches Player, who asks about Alice and the White Rabbit. The Cheshire Cat explains that the White Rabbit always appears to be running late for something.Quest 21: Through the Woods Pt. 5
Later, Player finds the White Rabbit waiting outside his house, explaining that he had sent his housekeeper, Mary Anne, inside in order to retrieve his gloves for him, but she still has not returned and the door is locked. Player offers to use theirKeyblade to unlock the door, but the White Rabbit is insistent that it would destroy his house instead and has Player fetch the key for him. Once Player returns with the key, the White Rabbit scrambles into his house and screams about the sudden appearance of monsters as Alice grows to a monumental size and unintentionally destroys his house. Thanks to some vegetables from the White Rabbit's garden, Alice is able to shrink down once again. With the crisis averted, the White Rabbit realizes his tardiness and frantically runs off, with Alice pursuing him.
As Player searches for Alice, the Cheshire Cat directs him to theMad Hatter and March Hare. Player finds the two celebrating their unbirthday with a tea party, but when the Mad Hatter and March Hare notice Player, they proclaim that there are no seats available and thus Player could not join them. When Player motions to leave, the Mad Hatter offers them some tea and pushes Player around the table alongside the March Hare. After fetching sugar, butter, and jam for them, Player is ultimately kicked out of the celebration for interrupting them in the first place.
Chirithy scolds Player for becoming distracted from collectingLux, pointing out to them that Alice is one of thePrincesses of Heart. Player seeks out Alice to keep her from being targeted by theHeartless. Player questions the Cheshire Cat, who reveals a shortcut that will lead Player to Alice. Player finds that Alice is standing trial for the chaos she has allegedly caused, with theQueen of Hearts presiding over it as the judge. As the Queen is quick to reach a verdict, Alice is able to disprove everything she has been accused of with Player's assistance. Furious, the Queen of Hearts insists that Alice is guilty and orders Alice to be beheaded. As theCard Soldiers assemble, Player helps Alice escape into the labyrinth while they hold them back. Afterwards, Player reunites with Alice outside of the labyrinth. Thanking Player for all their help, Alice opts to continue exploring Wonderland and Player joins her in order to fulfill their duty to protect the Princess of Heart.
Kingdom Hearts Union χ[edit]
Following the events of theKeyblade War, Player and rest of theDandelions lose their memories of the previous world, causing Player to relive their experiences in Wonderland. Player returns to Wonderland to check up on Alice, who has decided to play a game of hide and seek. After locating her, Alice says she is bored of hiding and decides to go and play a trick on the Queen of Hearts by hiding her Scepter. Player attempts to stop Alice but she runs off, however the Cheshire cat appears, telling Player not to worry as Alice has another engagement at the Mad Hatter's tea party, and that he'll keep a close watch over Alice for Player.
Kingdom Hearts Dark Road[edit]
Wonderland is the second world thatXehanort,Eraqus, and their fellowKeyblade wielders visit in their search for the upper classmen. They find the world has some inhabitants, including the Queen of Hearts, who appears to havedarkness in herheart and is able to summon a Heartless at will to attack them. After experiencing the Queen's darkness, Xehanort and Eraqus begin to deduce their own theories about the nature of darkness, and wonder if the upper classmen were consumed by darkness themselves. Eraqus and Xehanort debate whether the Queen's darkness is her own or if it has infiltrated her heart. They return to visit the Queen, where Eraqus asks her if her heart is her own or not. The Queen becomes angry and summons another more powerful Heartless to attack them. After defeating it, Xehanort theorizes that the Queen's darkness comes from her own strong emotions of anger and that an angry Queen must maintain order in this world. He also comments that all the other inhabitants, despite being eccentric, are all afraid of her deep down in their hearts so they choose to obey her. Eraqus on the other hand, expresses his belief that darkness cannot be born from hearts but can only sneak into it, and that when he becomes aKeyblade Master he'll make it his duty to seek out darkness and destroy it. The Keyblade wielders decide to leave Wonderland and try another world.
Four years later, Xehanort returns to Wonderland to find that the Queen, who had forgotten him during his last visit, is still possessed by darkness.
Kingdom Hearts[edit]
Sora,Donald andGoofy arrive in Wonderland just in time to witness Alice being put on trial for apparently trying to steal the Queen of Hearts's heart. Alice is sentenced to beheading, but Sora intervenes, promising the Queen he shall bring evidence to proveAlice is innocent. While searching for evidence, Sora is helped by theCheshire Cat, who also gives him theBlizzard element.
Upon returning with evidence that theHeartless were responsible, the furious Queen locks Alice in a cage, turning her card minions upon Sora. The party defeats them and rushes to save Alice, but discovers her cage is empty. Sora and his friends rush off to find Alice, but after a search through the world, they return to the normal Bizarre Room and face off against theTrickmaster Heartless, which they destroy. They then discover the world'sKeyhole in the sleeping Doorknob's mouth and seal it.
Soon after, it is revealed that Alice was kidnapped from Wonderland because she was aPrincess of Heart.
Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories[edit]
The world and characters of Wonderland return in the form of memories of Sora's, during his time inCastle Oblivion. Alice is accused of stealing the Queen'smemory and once again put on trial of her alleged crime. Sora intervenes and claims he is the thief, which causes the Queen to have her cards attack. After fighting and escaping, Sora and Alice talks to the Cheshire Cat about the Queen of Hearts and her memory loss. The Cheshire Cat also comments that "If you try too hard to remember something, your memory could lie to you."
They are later found by the Queen, who attempts to indict them, but she suddenly forgets what she was doing. The Trickmaster shows up and is revealed to be the one responsible for stealing her memory. After it is defeated, Alice tells the Queen that she ordered for Sora and Alice to destroy it. The Queen, being too proud, commends them on a job well done.
Later, in the Basement,Riku enters the memory-based Wonderland, but he only encounters the Trickmaster, which he defeats.
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days[edit]
WhenRoxas first arrives in Wonderland, he has another vision ofthat boy in red standing where he is standing, holding a Keyblade. He is soon distracted by the strange sight of a white rabbit in a waistcoat looking at a pocket-watch and speaking of his lateness. Roxas is not quite sure what he has just seen, but wonders what might be up ahead to make the rabbit react so. When he reaches the next room he sees the White Rabbit again, but shrunken, and running through the door. He wonders just how the rabbit might have gotten smaller, and is answered by theDoorknob, who tells him to drink what's in the bottle on the table. Roxas drinks the contents of the bottle, causing him to shrink. Heartless appear, and he is able to continue with his mission of collecting hearts. After the defeat of a few enemies, aLurk Lizard appears, but is defeated.
On his second mission to Wonderland he is sent with Luxord to take out somePink Concertos. Roxas looks around, thinking to see theWhite Rabbit once more, but he does not appear. WhenLuxord questions him about his behavior, he tells him what had happened on the previous mission. Luxord tells him that even small happenings with luck could turn into fated meetings. Roxas looks confused, but they continue on with their mission. During the mission, theCheshire Cat appears several times to give cryptic advice on where they might find the Heartless. Roxas asks him whether or not he is connected with the Heartless, but the Cheshire Cat would not give him a straight answer. On this mission, he had several more visions of the boy in red, this time with his friends.
A couple weeks later, returning for another mission in Wonderland with Luxord, they both see theWhite Rabbit run past, once again complaining of lateness. Luxord comments that the White Rabbit could be either lucky or unlucky for Roxas, though he didn't know which. Roxas tells him it doesn't really matter, since the White Rabbit is unrelated to their current mission, but Luxord decides that they should follow him. They find the rabbit at the Queen's Court, where he tells the Queen that they have been unable to locate the trio that gave her a shock. She demands that they be found, and the card soldiers run to check the Maze Garden, the only place they haven't checked. Thinking that perhaps the "trio" the Queen is searching for are the three Heartless they have been sent to dispatch, Luxord and Roxas take a look at the Maze Garden as well. The card soldiers are everywhere, but by sneaking by them they manage to find and finish off the trio of Heartless. Roxas has another vision of the boy in red, before they hear the Queen screaming at her soldiers. Luxord muses that now they'll never find those threeHeartless they had been searching for, and it was due to Roxas's curiosity that they managed to find them before the soldiers did.
Several months pass until Roxas has his next mission in Wonderland with Luxord. The Queen is still looking for the trio of Heartless, but no one has yet to find them. Luxord wonders if luck will be on their side this time, when the Cheshire Cat appears to tell them of a new shadow that has appeared in place of the old ones. He gives them a hint that they will find the shadow by turning on the four switches in the Opposite Maze Garden. They made their way through the garden, avoiding the card soldiers, to turn on the switches. Returning to the Bizarre room, the light now makes a shadow on the floor, which turns into theNovashadow that they had been sent to fight. They take care of it, and return toThe World That Never Was.
A few weeks later, Roxas is sent by himself to take care of an unknown Heartless. Before he goes anywhere, the Cheshire Cat appears and asks if he is looking for a Heartless.Roxas asks where he could find it, and the cat answers that it is in the room with the shadows. Roxas asks him what he wants, and the cat replies that it is whatever Roxas thinks he wants. Roxas gets irritated and moves past him into the next room, but as soon as he drinks from the bottle, the cat appears again. The Heartless springs from the shadow, but Roxas defeats them. When the cat appears again to congratulate him, Roxas asks the cat who or what he is, but the cat only replies that he should believe whatever it is he wants to believe and that "lies and truth are the same if you believe in them" and that "he should choose where his heart lies".
Sometime later, Roxas is transported here byXion in the Bizarre Room. Xion uses theOrganization XIII Device to transform into a winged form, and she attacks Roxas. However, Roxas manages to destroy the wings. Xion then transports Roxas and herself toHalloween Town to continue the fight.
