Pinocchio, sometimes referred to asPinoke orPinocch, is a character fromKingdom Hearts,Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories andKingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. He is the main character from the 1940 filmPinocchio.

Story[edit]

BeforeKingdom Hearts[edit]

Pinocchio is a wooden puppet brought to life by theBlue Fairy after his makerGeppetto wished for a son. He is given the opportunity to become a real boy by proving himself brave, kind, and honest;Jiminy Cricket is been assigned to be Pinocchio's conscience, because he is too young to know the difference between right and wrong. Unfortunately, Pinocchio begins misbehaving and runs away from home, causing Geppetto to set out to look for him and eventually getting swallowed by the whaleMonstro in the process. Shortly afterward, theHeartless destroy theirworld, causing them to become separated.

Kingdom Hearts[edit]

As many others who have lost their worlds, Pinocchio ends up inTraverse Town. He is met bySora,Donald,Goofy, and Jiminy, who find him stealing from the Accessory Shop. Jiminy manages to set his misbehavior straight, and Pinocchio promises Jiminy that he will behave from that point onwards and find his father.

Pinocchio is off playing games with Riku.

Some time after Sora and Jiminy leave Traverse Town, Pinocchio gets swallowed byMonstro, where he is reunited with Geppetto. Sora, Donald, Goofy, and Jiminy are themselves swallowed by the whale en route to another world, and find Pinocchio looking for supplies. They follow him through Monstro's mouth to a ship where he and Geppetto have set up living quarters. As Geppetto introduces himself, Pinocchio spotsRiku from afar, and runs after him into Monstro's bowels. Sora and co. follow, discovering Riku, and are led on a chase after Pinocchio and Riku, who continues to taunt his old friend. Just as they catch up, however, Pinocchio is captured by a giant Heartless, theParasite Cage, which swallows him whole.

Together, Riku and Sora fend off the Heartless, causing it to expel Pinocchio, who is comatose and seemingly lacking hisheart. Riku grabs him and prepares to leave, explaining that he intends to use the puppet's strange nature to try to helpKairi. While Sora confronts Riku in Monstro's stomach, Jiminy rushes to tend to his friend. The despairing puppet remarks that he is finished, but when his growing nose reveals this to be a lie, he expresses relief. Pinocchio leaves to rejoin Geppetto as Sora and his friends slay the Heartless, causing Monstro to sneeze everyone out. Pinocchio and his father settle at Traverse Town, living in a craftshop provided byLeon.

Some time after theDoor to Darkness is sealed, a now-human Pinocchio plays joyfully with his father.

Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories[edit]

Pinocchio appears as a figment of Sora's memories during his journey throughCastle Oblivion. This version of Pinocchio feels guilty for getting trapped within Monstro, and so goes deeper into the giant whale's body to find a way out.

When the trio finally catch up, Pinocchio is caught inside a Parasite Cage Heartless again. After they defeat the Heartless, Sora teaches Pinocchio to be brave and fight his way out. He does so and frees himself just before the monster vaporizes. He then gives them an idea about making Monstro sneeze to escape. After he gave them his idea, he returns to Geppetto. When the trio heroes make the monster sneeze, Pinocchio and Geppetto escape to safety.

Kingdom Hearts II[edit]

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance[edit]

Because Pinocchio managed to escape Prankster's Paradise before it became one of theSleeping Worlds, a simulacrum of Pinocchio takes his place in the world's "dream", still appearing as a wooden puppet.

Side: Sora[edit]

Prior to Sora's arrival in his sleeping world, Pinocchio is locked inside a cage after skipping school. While being rebuked by Jiminy for doing so, Pinocchio lies that two "monsters" brought him there in a bag, causing his nose to grow longer. Still insisting he is telling the truth, Pinocchio mentions a "fella in black clothes" who told him to play a trick on Sora, which Jiminy realizes is true when Pinocchio's nose does not grow. Once theBlue Fairy arrives and gently scolds him for lying to Jiminy, Pinocchio promises to never lie again and pleads her to return his nose back to normal. The Blue Fairy forgives him and grants his wish, but warns he will remain a puppet forever if he keeps lying.

When Sora arrives, Pinocchio has separated from Jiminy at Pleasure Island, and Sora and Jiminy set out to search for him. After being misled around the Amusement Park by twoJestabockyDream Eaters disguised as Pinocchio, the two eventually find him at the Circus, partially transformed into a donkey because of his misbehavior. Sora saves the puppet from the Dream Eaters, then orders him and Jiminy to leave. As they do so, the two are notified by the Blue Fairy that Geppetto has been swallowed by Monstro, and they jump off a cliff into the ocean to rescue him. Sora follows them to the bottom of the ocean after the Blue Fairy informs them of their actions, watching as they are attacked and swallowed by the whale. After Sora defeats theChill Clawbster, he muses that the world must have been destroyed by the Heartless after this point, resulting in Pinocchio and Jiminy's separation from Geppetto.

Side: Riku[edit]

Within Sora's dreams, Pinocchio is reunited with his father in Monstro's mouth, but soon wanders off. On Geppetto's behalf, Riku and Jiminy find him wandering with a stranger in ablack coat. After the coated man releases Pinocchio, he reveals his face to reveal a doppelgänger of Riku before escaping into acorridor of darkness, unsettling Riku. Following his battle with theChar Clawbster, Riku watches as Pinocchio and Jiminy happily reunite with Geppetto.

Design[edit]

Pinocchio is a marionette made to look like a little boy. This is clearly reflected by his arms and legs, which are rectangular blocks of peach-colored wood. His legs also have clear hinges at his knees. Other than this, however, it is rather difficult to tell him apart from a normal boy, and he in fact becomes one during the end credits ofKingdom Hearts. Pinocchio has thick, black hair and eyebrows, blue eyes, and four-fingered hands. His nose is slightly darker colored than the rest of his "skin", and grows when he lies.

Clothing-wise, Pinocchio wears a yellow hat with a red feather in it, brown shoes, and white gloves like those worn by many older Disney characters. He wears a tan, short-sleeved shirt under a black vest with gold lining. His shorts are red, and he wears a blue bow on the front of his shirt.

Personality[edit]

Pinocchio is a curious and honest boy, yet a bit gullible and mischievous, and doesn't have a sense of what's right and wrong, which is why Jiminy takes the role of his "conscience". He is also shown to be brave enough to wander around Monstro's stomach, looking for a way out; even though there are Heartless lurking around, as well as hazards like stomach acids. He often lies to others, but is given away by his nose getting longer for each lie.

Origin[edit]

Pinocchio is originally from the Disney animated feature film,Pinocchio, which was originally based on the storyThe Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi.Geppetto, the woodworker who created Pinocchio, wishes for Pinocchio to be a real boy—a wish that Pinocchio must work hard to make come true.

In the film, Pinocchio went into many misadventures, such as being a star in a puppet show, nearly being turned into a donkey on Pleasure Island, then being swallowed by Monstro while searching for Geppetto. They manage to escape the whale, but Pinocchio is killed as a result, though he is soon revived by the Blue Fairy and transformed into a real boy because he fulfilled the requirements.

While unrelated, Seth Adkins, who voiced Pinocchio in the firstKingdom Hearts, had previously portrayed a different incarnation of the character in the 2000 filmGeppetto.
