TheLord Kyroo is aDream Eater that appears inKingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. It is an optional boss thatSora andRiku encounter in several worlds.

Story[edit]

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance[edit]

When Riku returns to the Nave inLa Cité des Cloches^[1], he encounters the Lord Kyroo, who proposes a duel. Upon accepting its challenge, Riku will face off against the Lord Kyroo and its army of Chef Kyroos and Sir Kyroos. If Riku does not defeat the Lord Kyroo within a certain amount of time, the Lord Kyroo will blow a kiss to Riku and retreat.

Sora will then encounter the Lord Kyroo at the Promontory inPrankster's Paradise, where the Lord Kyroo will offer him the same challenge. If Sora does not defeat the Lord Kyroo, the Lord Kyroo will retreat to the Moonlight Wood inSymphony of Sorcery, waiting for Riku. If Riku does not defeat the Lord Kyroo once again, it will retreat yet again, repeating its location and challenging Sora and Riku until they successfully defeat it, whittling down its HP with each encounter.

Design[edit]

The Lord Kyroo's Japanese nameKaeru Ōji (蛙王子^?) translates as "Frog Prince", a reference to the Brothers Grimm'sfairy tale of the same name. Its English name is based on its Japanese name.

The Lord Kyroo resembles a bipedal frog, with rotund body and stubby, three-toed limbs. It wields a buckler and a rapier, and wears a crown and a polka-dotted cape. Its Emblem is on the middle of its belly.

Spirit[edit]

As a Spirit, it is mainly colored green with some shades of yellow and purple, mainly around its limbs. Its crown is colored yellow with pink tones, and its cape is a blueish-purple with yellow polka dots.Paint Guns affect all of its green parts, excluding green on its feet and legs. It also has a pale-yellow underbelly, and its shield is colored yellow with a pink squared symbol in its center with a white-metal rim. The same pattern appears on its rapier's handguard, colored green; the grip is pink while the pommel and guard are silver colored.

Nightmare[edit]

As a Nightmare, its primary color is a dark turquoise. Its rapier colored black and white on the grip and handguard, with its shield being yellow and black. Its feet and hands are colored yellow and magenta unlike the rest of its body. The cape is also colored purple with pale-violet polka dots, while its crown is colored green with magenta tones. Its underbelly is colored with a darker yellow.

Boss[edit]

The boss version of the Lord Kyroo is colored like a Rare Nightmare, with its body, shield background, and rapier pattern glowing the traditional silvery turquoise. Its crown shines silver, and its cape is black with gray polka dots. It is otherwise identical to its Nightmare version. However, this color scheme is not depicted in the journal, and is not officially designated as a Rare Nightmare.

Strategy[edit]

Spirit[edit]

The Lord Kyroo is one of the more powerful Spirits in the game, as it is able to dive at opponents with Ribbit Assault and can blow kisses at targets that inflictConfuse. It mainly focuses onThunder magic, but it can also castMini andCuraga, allowing it to be a very powerful support-type party member as well. Its battle patterns are similar to theSir Kyroo, and it has the same vulnerability to fire which causes its rear to burn up. Like the other two Kyroos, the Lord Kyroo can also rush to Sora or Riku's side to block and counterattacks on them. When under the Empricist Disposition, it can cast the most variety of support spells: Spirit Roar, Haste, as well as Protect and Shell when the player character is at low HP, with the main difference between it and the Sir Kyroo's Paladin Disposition being that Lord Kyroo can use Haste.

Nightmare[edit]

The Lord Kyroo only appears as a generic Nightmare within certain Portals or inSnowgleam Wood, after defeating the Sir Kyroos at the base of the Flowmotion rail near the snowflake platforms. It is a stronger version of the Sir Kyroos, but is still easy to defeat. The Lord Kyroo will beignited and start to panic ifFire-type commands are used against it; this allows one to easily press an assault. While Fire makes it unable to act, Blizzard-elemental attacks deal even more damage.

Boss[edit]

A version of the Lord Kyroo resembling a Rare Nightmare also appears as an optional boss in a sidequest spanning multiple worlds. Instead of appearing from a Special Portal, it is first found at theNave (Riku's side, unless it is before the fight against Wargoyle), where it can be challenged to battle. If the Lord Kyroo is not defeated within 70 seconds, it will blow a kiss and flee the battle. Afterward, it will reappear at thePromontory, then at theMoonlight Wood, and then start over at the Nave. However, its HP will remain at the same value between battles. If the player character leaves the room during the battle, the battle will reset as if the Lord Kyroo had not been challenged yet. If Riku ever skips the encounter at the Nave, he can meet Lord Kyroo at the Moonlight Wood.

The Lord Kyroo will drop theLord Kyroo Recipe and grant access to the Link AcceleratorRelay Bonus when defeated. In addition, whichever character finishes off the Lord Kyroo will receive a HP Bonus. If gained by Sora, his maximum HP with all HP bonuses will tie with Riku's; otherwise, Riku's HP will exceed Sora's.

The boss version Lord Kyroo uses the same attacks as the regular Nightmare version. It will also summon manyChef Kyroos andSir Kyroos to help defend it once the battle starts, and will summon more of them once they're defeated. As many of them can use Sleep magic, equippingSleep Block or usingDrop-Me-Nots andWake-up Block is recommended.
