Items (アイテム, Aitemu?) are a recurring mechanic in theKingdom Hearts series. They are used in battle, insynthesis, and in story progression.

Battle items[edit]

Item iconBattle items (バトルアイテム, Batoru Aitemu?) are consumable items that can be equipped to party members and used in the field. They typically restore a party member'sHP orMP. InKingdom Hearts,Kingdom Hearts II,Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage-, andKingdom Hearts III, equipped battle items can be used by selecting the Items command in theCommand Menu. Starting fromKingdom Hearts II, equipped items can be set to shortcuts for easy access.

In the items menu, battle items are represented by the icon of a vial partially filled with a green liquid.

Throughout most of the games, such items can only be used while grounded.

Item slots[edit]

InKingdom Hearts,Kingdom Hearts II andKingdom Hearts III, only a certain amount of battle items can be taken into combat at once, as each party member is restricted to the amount of item slots that they have. Each character begins with a certain amount of item slots, whileSora,Donald, andGoofy can gain more by progressing through the game.

Auto-Reload is a customization option available inKingdom Hearts II andKingdom Hearts III. The battle item in an item slot set to Auto-Reload is automatically restocked after each battle if it has been consumed. Auto-Reload can be toggled on or off for each item slot from the Items menu.

InKingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage-,Aqua has access to every item in the inventory through the item menu, circumventing the restrictions of item slots entirely.
