Attractions
Attractions (アトラクションフロー, Atorakushon Furō?, lit. "Attraction Flow") are a command system inKingdom Hearts III. They allowSora to perform elaborate attacks inspired by the various rides of theDisney theme parks.
Development[edit]
Attractions first appeared in a trailer forKingdom Hearts III atD23 Expo Japan 2013. Sora is shown summoning a Pirate Ship ride to attack a group ofHeartless, and later Sora, Donald, and Goofy ride the Big Magic Mountain train in battle against theRock Titan.[1]
TheKingdom Hearts III trailer at E3 2015 again shows Sora summoning the Big Magic Mountain and Pirate Ship Attractions, while also introducing the Mad Tea Cups Attraction.[2] In an interview at E3, Tetsuya Nomura described that at one point in development, the tea cup ride had the camera showing Sora's point of view, but the camera motion gave some of the testers motion sickness.[3]
In an interview in the June 25, 2015 issue ofDengeki Playstation, Nomura explained that Sora will be able to trigger Attraction attacks under certain conditions in battle. He attributed the inspiration for Attractions toFlowmotion fromKingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, but described the former as a more tactical system.[citation needed]
In June 2018, theE3 2018 Square Enix Showcase Trailer displayed two new Attractions: Splash Run, and Magic Carousel.
Mechanics[edit]
InKingdom Hearts III, enemies may occasionally be tagged with a "CHANCE!" Attraction indicator, being a golden crown with a green circle that acts as a timer. Hitting these enemies while this indicator is active will prompt aSituation Command that will trigger the Attraction.
The appearance of the Attraction indicator during battle is determined by the enemy'sAttraction Endurance (アトラクション耐久値, Atorakushon Taikyū-chi?). When this hidden value reaches 0, the Attraction indicator appears. An enemy may only have one Attraction indicator attached to them at a time, and there cannot be multiple Attraction indicators of the same type active at once. The same Attraction cannot appear for at least 30 seconds after the last use of that Attraction ends.
The initial Attraction Endurance value of an enemy is determined by their HP multiplied with theirAttraction Endurance Magnification (アトラクション耐久値倍率, Atorakushon Taikyū-chi Bairitsu?) value. Most enemies have an Attraction Magnification value of x1.1, while certain enemies and most bosses have a value of less than x1.0.
When an enemy is attacked, their Attraction Endurance will decrease by the same amount as their HP. There is a 4% chance that the decrease will be 1.5 times the normal value, increasing by 2% for each equipped copy ofAttraction Enhancer. Damage dealt by Links, Team Attacks, Attractions, Cover Shot, or characters other than Sora will not decrease an enemy's Attraction Endurance. Likewise, an enemy's Attraction Endurance cannot be lowered while they are inArmor Mode.
Additionally, there is a 20% chance that a random enemy starts with the Attraction indicator around them when the battle begins, increasing by 5% for each equipped copy of Attraction Enhancer. This starting indicator can only appear around enemies with an Attraction Magnification value of x1.1.
While using an Attraction, Sora will not flinch when attacked, cannot suffer anystatus effects, and his HP cannot be reduced lower than 1 HP.Donald andGoofy will ride with Sora on the Attraction, while world-specificparty members will disappear for the duration of the Attraction.
However, when inflicted byYozora's Time Break attack, the eponymousTime Break status can deplete the duration of an Attraction's Finish command, and thus shorten the Attraction's duration. If the timer is fully depleted by Time Break, the Attraction will instantly end.
