- "All that's left in my heart is misery and despair...and now, you can share it!"
- —Anti-Aqua
Anti-Aqua is a boss inKingdom Hearts III. AfterAqua is corrupted bydarkness and the influence ofXehanort,[1]Sora is forced to fight her in order to rescue her.
Story[edit]
Kingdom Hearts III[edit]
WhenAnsem, Seeker of Darkness arrives at the Dark Margin to takeAnsem the Wise, Aqua tries to fight Ansem, but theDark Figure subdues her, imbues her with darkness, and throws her into the seas of theDark Margin, transforming her into Anti-Aqua.
Anti-Aqua later confrontsKing Mickey andRiku when they return to the Dark Margin to find her. She has aDemon Tower restrain Mickey and takes hisStar ClusterKeyblade, explaining the pain she has been through over the years she spent trapped in theRealm of Darkness. She and the Demon Tower then fight Riku, but Riku destroys the Demon Tower and frees Mickey withSora's help. Sora battles Anti-Aqua and successfully frees her from the darkness.
Later, during the final battle at theKeyblade Graveyard, Aqua begins hallucinating when faced by theDemon Tide, which she views as a swarm of Anti-Aquas in place ofShadows, stunning her in place as the Demon Tide swallows her. Sora manages to purify the fear in herheart, which takes the form of Anti-Aqua, allowing Aqua to face theHeartless head-on during the second attempt.Kingdom Hearts III Re Mind
Design[edit]
Anti-Aqua is a corrupted version of Aqua. Her hair is a bleached blue, her eyes are yellow, and her dress has darkened and become tattered, with scaly texture appearance. Her arms and legs have also begun to darken, and her hands are now black with red fingertips.
In battle, she wields Mickey'sStar Cluster after he is disarmed while fighting a Demon Tower.
When she first reveals herself, Anti-Aqua initially appears as a black silhouette wreathed in a violet aura of darkness.
Personality[edit]
Anti-Aqua is the embodiment of all the fear, pain, anger, loneliness, and spiritual exhaustion she had been bottling up for a decade. Her worldview has become narrowed and jaded, believing Mickey had purposely left her behind, even when she willingly stayed trapped to keep a Demon Tide from reaching theDoor to Darkness.
With only bitterness left in her possessed state, Anti-Aqua was easily angered to the point of attacking others, resulting in Riku and Sora needing to fight her to the point the darkness wore out.
Strategy[edit]
Kingdom Hearts III[edit]
Anti-Aqua behaves nearly identically to thephantom Aqua fromKingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage-. She begins the fight by using Style Change to activateSpellweaver, and continues to fight in this mode. She usually attacks in tandem with doppelgängers, often firing homing orbs at Sora with Magic Shot and Encircling Magic Shot and performing spiraling attacks with Windmill Upswing, Windmill Shake Off, and Windmill Rush. All of these attacks can be guarded.
She often teleports across the arena, and sometimes teleports before Sora can attack. When her retaliation point is reached, she often counters with an unblockable Rush Lunge. Occasionally, Anti-Aqua will wander across the arena with several doppelgängers, explaining her pain to Sora. While she and the doppelgängers will disappear after a short time, Sora can useThunder to instantly expose the real Anti-Aqua.
Anti-Aqua is resistant toBlizzard magic, and while she is not weak toFire, the usage of Fire attacks reduce her revenge value by the attack's given value.
As her health dwindles, Anti-Aqua gains access to two ultimate attacks. The first is Mirage Blizzaga, in which she teleports in the air before firing Blizzard shards. The shards can be guarded or evaded. The second is Mirage Wish, where she and three of her doppelgängers perform the Spellweaver finisher. To escape the attack, Sora can either dodge out of the spiral, or block with aFormchange that blocks with barriers.
Although her pattern can be challenging, she has low health for the point in the game she is encountered. The recently acquiredNano Arms Formchange works well against her as it has strong distance closing potential as well as providing access to a Barrier guard.
