DICKINSON, N.D. (KFYR) - All seven Dickinson State University nursing faculty members resigned Wednesday just weeks before the fall term begins.
Former Assistant Professor of Nursing Trista Keith said for the last couple of years, the nursing faculty has been warned that their accreditation under the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) has been at stake.
She said there were not enough resources and time to help faculty meet the accreditation requirements.
She also said meeting policy changes in credit hours listed in their contracts was not feasible.
She said nursing is different than other degree paths, and it’s hard to compare clinical hours to other subjects.
DSU President Stephen Easton said he made it clear in conversations between the faculty and administration that the credit hour production requirements need to be the same in all faculty programs, without exception.
The president said they’re working to make sure the program will be up and running this fall without changing the curriculum for nursing students.
