Nazi Defendants at the Nuremburg Trials

War crime trials began duringWorld War II. The first trial of perpetrators of crimes against civilian populations was conducted in the liberated territories of the Soviet Union. The specific question of war crimes and crimes against Jews, defined then as “crimes against humanity” was considered only after the war ended.
