Microsoft has announced GitHub Enterprise on Azure, plus integrations between Microsoft developer tools and GitHub.
GitHub Enterprise on Azure means organisations can develop and build enterprise-grade software by creating their own instance of the collaborative code platform already used by millions of developers, according to Microsoft chief evangelist Steve Guggenheimer.
Announced overnight at Microsoft's Build conference, the availability of GitHub Enterprise on Azure is accompanied by integration between GitHub and Visual Studio, and GitHub and Developer Assistant.
TheGitHub extension for Visual Studio allows developers using Visual Studio 2015 to connect to GitHub and GitHub Enterprise repositories, create new repositories, publish local-only repositories, and open a repository in Visual Studio.
Microsoft offers a45-day free trial of GitHub Enterprise on Azure.
