Never have people been so interconnected and mobile. As the leading migration agency of the United Nations, IOM supports migrants across the world, developing effective responses to the shifting dynamics of migration. The Organization works in emergency situations, developing the resilience of people on the move, particularly those in situations of vulnerability, and building capacity within governments to manage all forms and impacts of mobility.

The Organization’s workforce is recognized in the IOM Strategic Plan 2024–2028 as its most valuable asset, known for being innovative, agile, entrepreneurial and resilient. IOM is committed to cultivating talent, fostering innovation, and promoting an inclusive working culture, enabling the Organization to effectively respond to the dynamic challenges of migration.

Through its People Strategy 2024–2028, IOM ensures the effective care of its personnel, as a supportive and healthy work environment enhances employee morale, productivity and resilience.

IOM People Strategy 2024–2028

The IOM People Strategy 2024–2028 is aligned with the IOM Strategic Plan 2024–2028 and is an integral component of its implementation. The Strategic Plan recognizes that IOM’s workforce is the foundation on which the Organization’s work is built and that IOM’s vision will not be achieved without strong and motivated personnel.

The People Strategy 2024–2028 defines how IOM’s most important asset, its people, should be supported to continue delivering the best possible results to migrant populations. It has three pillars – care, talent and leadership – and eight objectives.
