| Definition | Fluorescentin situ hybridization. A method for determining thecytogenetic location of a cloned segment ofDNA. The DNA is labeled with afluorescent dye andhybridized to a cytological preparation ofchromosomes that has beendenatured to allownucleic acid hybridization between chromosomal DNA and theprobe. The site of hybridization is determined byfluorescent microscopy. See theFigure at Wikipedia. See alsoIn situ Hybridization. |
