MGI Glossary

This glossary provides definitions for some terms found in our helpdocumentation and other terms that are useful in understanding mouse geneticsand bioinformatics. Terms are defined in a general sense as they apply toeukaryotic genetics, particularly mouse genetics; some terms are also definedas they are specifically used in MGI (e.g.,gene).This list will grow as time goes on. TheMouse Developmental Anatomy Browserdisplays anatomical terms of the mouse in a hierarchical manner for a seriesof developmental stages, using standard anatomical nomenclature.
TheAdult Mouse Anatomy Browser provides standardizednomenclature for anatomical structures in the postnatal mouse(Theiler stage 28).
TheGene Ontologydefinitions page provides current definitions of all terms usedin the Gene Ontology Project.
TheMeSH BrowseratNCBIcontains useful definitions of many terms, organized as a hierarchicalcontrolled vocabulary.
TheBLAST Glossary at NCBI defines terms used in searching sequence databases.
TheHypermedia Glossary of Genetic Terms by Birgid Schlindwein contains over600 genetic terms.
