Upon receipt of all the required documents, it normally takes around two weeks to process visit visa applications from nationals of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam who join tour groups to visit Hong Kong and submit their visit visa applications through licensed travel agents in Hong Kong.
Generally speaking, unless the application for extension of stay is approved, visitors must depart Hong Kong before the expiry of their limit of stay, otherwise they will be deemed to have overstayed. The application for extension of stay are processed by the Extension Section, 5th Floor, Administration Tower, Immigration Headquarters, 61 Po Yap Road, Tseung Kwan O, New Territories. The office hours are from 8:45 am to 5:00 pm from Monday to Friday, and closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Applications submitted in person to the Extension Section will normally be finalised on the same day, while online applications will normally be processed on the next working day after receipt of the applications. Since an application for extension of stay will not necessarily be approved, visitors intending to apply should submit their applications at an appropriate time before the expiry of their limit of stay, in order to avoid overstaying in Hong Kong.
Visitors who submit online application at the expiry of limit of stay may not receive the result of application before the limit of stay expired. In case of need, he or she can produce the email notification of receipt of the application issued by the Immigration Department to prove that the application for extension of stay has been submitted. He or she can also make use of Application Status Enquiry function on ImmD Homepage or ImmD Mobile Application to show that the application is under processing.
The Extension Section issues an electronic notification of the application result by email upon finalising the application. Successful applicant can pay online through the webpage link provided in the notification of the application result, and then download or print the “e-Visa” with limit of stay shown by themselves upon payment. Unsuccessful applicant will be invited to attend the Extension Section during office hours according to the instructions stated on the notification of the application result for departure arrangement.
