The Joker and Harley Quinn Tango in New Statue

Based on the iconic Alex Ross painting.

If you're a fan of Alex Ross's painted cover to Batman: Harley Quinn #1 featuring the Joker holding Harley Quinn as if in the middle of the Tango, then DC Collectibles has a treat for you. A newly released statue captures the iconic moment between the two villainous lovebirds and can be yours for $249.95.

DC Collectibles has made statues of other characters sharing an intimate moment -- including Batman/Catwoman and Superman/Wonder Woman -- but this is the first time two villains have been showcased. Both of those couples and this new piece were all sculpted by Tim Bruckner, so if you liked his previous work, then know you're getting similar quality here.

The Joker/Harley statue is a limited edition with 5,200 available. It was released in February as part of DC's Harley Month, which features Harley Quinn variant covers, Harley Quinn getting her own Facebook page, and more.
The dynamic of the couples' relationship has always been a lopsided affair, with Harley head-over-heels in love while Joker would berate her as soon as kiss her. There's a reason the comic spotlighting their romance is titled Mad Love, after all. The statue captures that dynamic by showing Harley leaning back against Joker with a look of pure adoration on her face, while Joker grins his sinister grin and holds her wrist, perhaps a bit too tightly.

We took our own photos of the statue in order to give you a clear look at the piece. Check them out:

The statue stands approximately 12.5 inches tall, including the base. The base itself has a Harley theme to it -- black and red steps with the top a black and red checkered design. Metal pegs on the feet of Joker and Harley fit into the base with a bit of firm pushing; it's not going anywhere once it's snugly fit.

The paint job on the figure is handled well, making the sheen of Harley's costume and the texture of Joker's three-piece suit look just right. Curiously, the promo images released by DC online show a Joker with a harsh shade of purple around the eyes, which throws off his look. However, as you can see from the photos we took ourselves, the purple on the actual statue is downplayed considerably, allowing the finer details -- like the craggy lines around his eyes that accent his sinister gaze -- to show. That's right, the actual statue looks better than what's been advertised on the box.

The sculpt itself it on-point, matching Ross's cover to a tee. It's a delicate pose that's doubtless tough to replicate just right, and there is a bit of chemistry lost between the two characters in the transition. The original cover you get the sense that Harley is almost snuggling against the Joker, but in the statue she's a bit more stiff-looking and isn't physically interacting with the Joker as much. That said, overall it does succeed in capturing the dynamic of the cover.
