Infogrames Picks up Hasbro's Toys
Now under the armadillo is the entire Atari line-up, plus all future Hasbro Interactive games.
But even more important than Hasbro Interactive's long line of family games is the fact that Hasbro has the rights to the legendary Atari name and its back-catalog of titles. That means that Game Boy Color conversions and updates of games likeFrogger,Galaga,Q*Bert, andPong or any other classic Atari title will come from Infogrames now. Hasbro Interactive had mined that list for gold, and though they only came up with some pewter and a ton of pyrite, the sales of the remakes assure that there will be a flood of new revisions, as there were at E3 this year. It'll be much, much more this year now that Infogrames is publishing, and more promisingly, this might mean that Infogrames would produce the titles internally or with its own trusted developers.
Hopefully this also spells the end of Majesco's involvement in making Hasbro Interactive conversions.Majesco may now be off the job, as Infogrames could potentially turn the Atari updates and remakes over to its own teams for much better results and hopefully linked play. Majesco had a terrible time with Atari ports on the Game Boy Color includingPong,Centipede, andSuper Breakout (among other horrible Hasbro games released the last two years). Admittedly the company turned itself around recently with great conversions ofQ*Bert andFrogger 2, so Majesco's not 100% bad...
