‘The Studio’ Gets a Sequel: Seth Rogen Comedy Renewed at Apple TV+
The Lionsgate-produced series has been a critical favorite for the streamer.

The (fictional) movie business is alive and well atApple TV+.
The streamer has renewed its comedyThe Studio for a second season. The series starsSeth Rogen (who also co-created it) as Matt Remick, a movie executive who is elevated to president of the fictional Continental Studios and quickly realizes he might be in over his head.
The renewal forThe Studio, produced by Lionsgate Television, comes two weeks ahead of the show’s season finale, which is set for May 21.
“We’re thrilled to be making a second season of The Studio,” Rogen and his Point Grey Pictures partner Evan Goldberg said in a statement. “We’re looking forward to taking the lived experience of making season one and immediately putting it into season two, then repeating that loop for ten more seasons. And, we’re excited to keep all our industry friends and colleagues guessing as to when one of their personal stories will stream on Apple TV+.”

The Studio has woncritical acclaim for its first season — andinspired guesses about which real-life industry figures inspired its characters. Apple TV+ doesn’t share viewing data for its programming, and the show’s first two weeks didn’t push it into the top 10 of Nielsen’s streaming rankings. Apple CEO Tim Cook did note during Apple’squarterly earnings call thatThe Studio (along withSeverance and other shows) helped Apple TV+ to “record viewership” in the first three months of the year.
Catherine O’Hara, Kathryn Hahn, Ike Barinholtz and Chase Sui Wonders also star inThe Studio. Bryan Cranston has a key recurring role, and the show has a long list of cameos so far, among them Martin Scorsese, Olivia Wilde, Zac Efron, Ron Howard, Ice Cube, Charlize Theron and Nick Stoller.
Rogen and Goldberg co-created the series with Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory and Frida Perez. They executive produce with James Weaver of Point Grey, Alex McAtee and Josh Fagen.
