Hollywood Film Awards to Honor ‘Monsters University’ and ‘Pacific Rim’ (Exclusive)
The animated film's director and producer and the action film's VFX supervisor will accept the honors at the Hollywood Film Awards' gala ceremony on Oct. 21.

Walt Disney StudiosDisney-Pixar’sMonsters University will receive the Hollywood Animation Award and Warner Bros.’Pacific Rim will receive the Hollywood Visual Effects Award at the 17th annual Hollywood Film Awards — the first awards show of the 2013 season — on Oct. 21 at the Beverly Hilton,The Hollywood Reporterhas learned. (The Hollywood Film Awards is owned by affiliates ofTHR parent company Guggenheim Partners.)
The awards, which are presented annually “to an individual who has — or individuals who have — made outstanding contributions to the entertainment industry,” will be collected byMonsters University directorDan Scanlon and producerKori Rae and byPacific Rim visual effects supervisorJohn Knoll, respectively.
Previous recipients of the animation prize includeRatatouille (2007),Wall-E (2008),Up (2009),Toy Story 3 (2010),Rango (2011) andRise of the Guardians (2012), and previous recipients of the visual effects honor includeIron Man (2008),Iron Man 2 (2010),Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011) andThe Avengers (2012).
The Hollywood Film Awards are determined by founder and executive directorCarlos deAbreu and an advisory committee. Last month, the Hollywood Film Awards andDick Clark Productions, which also produced the Golden Globe Awards,entered into a partnershipthat could lead to the ceremony being televised in future years. Over the past 10 years, Hollywood Film Awards honorees went on to garner a total of 96 Oscar nominations and 34 Oscars.
