Skydance Productions to Launch TV Division, Taps Former Fox Exec Marcy Ross as President

The move, which takes effect May 1, comes two months after Ross stepped down as Fox's executive vp current programming.

Skydance Productions is the latest film company to make its foray into TV.

Following pioneers such asJerry BruckheimerandMark Gordon,David Ellison will launch Skydance Television, with former Fox executiveMarcy Ross tapped as the division’s president. The move, which takes effect May 1, comes two months after Ross announced she’d be leaving the broadcast network, where she had been since 2002. At that time, the message was that she wanted to move to the creative side of the business.

“During her tenure at Fox, Marcy has developed and produced some of the best shows on television that have entertained audiences around the world,” CEO and president Ellison said in a statement, referring to such series asHouse, Bonesand Family Guy. “We are thrilled to welcome her into the Skydance family to help pioneer our entrance into this wonderful medium of storytelling.”

Added Ross: “When I met David and the Skydance team, I knew I had found the creative partner I was looking for. I am so impressed with the success that David,Dana Goldberg andPaul Schwake are achieving in the feature film side and I trust that once we open our doors wide to the television community, we will find the same success building a fun, nurturing place to create programming.” 

In her previous role, Ross was the executive vp current programming at Fox, where she oversaw shows includingGlee, The Simpsonsand New Girl, among others. Prior to that, Ross was at Studios USA, where she was senior vp comedy programming, supervising the development of the company’s comedy series, includingThe Jim Gaffigan Showfor CBS. She joined Studios USA from The Jim Henson Co., where she oversaw the development of all primetime series and telefilms as well as kids’ programming. Before that, Ross served as vp at Sandollar Television, where she developedBuffy the Vampire Slayer.

On the film side, Skydance has put hundreds of millions of dollars into Paramount blockbusters, includingG.I. Joe: Retaliation,True GritandMission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol. Its upcoming projects includeStar Trek Into Darkness andBrad Pitt‘sWorld War Z.
