Amazon Prime, A24 Announce Exclusive Multi-Year Streaming Deal
The indie studio behind "The Spectacular Now" and "Spring Breakers" will make its movies available solely for Amazon subscribers after they're released on DVD and Blu-ray.

Amazon has reached a multiyear deal to serve as the exclusive premium subscription home for indie studioA24‘s movies.
The site’s Prime Instant Video subscribers will be able to watch current and future A24 titles — includingSpring Breakers,The Spectacular Now, the upcomingThe Rover, starringRobert Pattinson, andUnder the Skin, starringScarlett Johansson — after those films are released on DVD and Blu-ray.

“We are always looking for new ways to bring our Prime Instant Video customers, unique, exclusive movies and TV that we think they will love,” Amazon director of digital video content acquisition Brad Beale said in a statement. “As always, we monitor DVD and digital sales very closely, and A24 movies such asSpring Breakers andThe Bling Ring are exceptionally popular among our customers. This new deal with A24 allows us to offer those same titles to our Prime Instant Video customers soon after they are released on DVD and Blu-ray and at no additional cost.”

The A24 deal covers four previously released films:Spring Breakers,The Spectacular Now,SofiaCoppola‘sThe Bling Ring andGinger & Rosa, starringElle Fanning andAnnette Bening. The agreement will also coverUnder the Skin andThe Rover.
The deal is the latest salvo in an ongoing battle between Netflix and Amazon to attract and retain subscribers by inking exclusive deals with content providers. This summer, Netflix reached an exclusive pact with The Weinstein Co.
