Critics’ Choice Awards: The Winners
UPDATED: "12 Years a Slave" takes best picture while "Gravity" helmer Alfonso Cuaron wins best director and Matthew McConaughey and Cate Blanchett take top acting awards.
The19th annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards just concluded, with12 Years a Slave nabbing the top prize of best picture.12 Years a Slave‘sLupita Nyong’o also won best supporting actress and the film’s screenwriterJohn Ridley won best adapted screenplay. Going into the show, the Fox Searchlight film had 13 nominations.
American Hustle also had 13 nominations and won the following awards: best acting ensemble, best makeup, best comedy and best actress in a comedy (Amy Adams).
Matthew McConaughey andCate Blanchettwon best actor and best actress for their respective roles inDallas Buyers Club andBlue Jasmine, while McConaughey’s co-starJared Leto won the best supporting actor prize.

Best director went toAlfonso Cuaron forGravity, which won seven awards, the most of any nominated film, including best actress in an action movie (Sandra Bullock), best cinematography, best editing, best visual effects, best sci-fi/horror movie and best score.
Three special awards were presented: the Joel Siegel Award, which went toForest Whitaker; the Louis XIII Genius Award, which went toJulie Delpy, Ethan Hawke andRichard Linklater for theBefore Sunrise, Before Sunset andBefore Midnight trilogy; and Hottest Hollywood Star, which went toBenedict Cumberbatch.
The awards ceremony aired live on the east coast on TheCW from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica and was hosted byAisha Tyler.It will be aired on a delay for the West Coast at 8 p.m. PST.
