Hartpury’s estate boasts its own commercial Home Farm and students are able to experience milking, calving, lambing and rearing and observe and assist with veterinary procedures on the farm.

We’re pioneers of livestock performance, productivity and profitability, holding the Southwest Promar International Milkminder award. We’re also leading the way in crop biodiversity, as a base for ADAS’s environmental research plots.
380-Hectare Classroom
You’ll benefit from one 380-hectare award-winning farming business across five rural sites that work withMüller, AVP, and RJ Kerr. Our main 72-hectare Home Farm is on campus, with four other farms nearby. You'll have plenty of opportunities to apply theory to practice, developing your expertise across the entire food supply chain.
Outstanding facilities
Home Farm is where you’ll find the cows, youngstock, calves, pigs and arable land. We boast exceptional facilities including a 140 cow robotic milking herd, a 100 cow herd milked through a 30/30 rapid exit parlour, a dairy heifer calf rearing unit, a beef calf rearing unit and a livestock shed with a fully fitted handling race and treatment area.

Alongside that, we work to strict Farm Assurance regulations, which means you'll develop expertise that's in demand by employers.
Milking Robots
DeLaval VMS300s system, allowing cows to access the robots or food whenever they choose.
Our brand new state-of-the-art milking system is now fully operational up at Home Farm. Equipped with advanced industry technology it provides students with real time data and helps them obtain hands-on learning and knowledge of smart farming. Robotic milking boosts cow health, productivity ,efficiency and sustainability leading to happy farming.
Hub for engagement
The Malcolm Wharton Centre is a state-of-the-art teaching space set in the heart of Hartpury’s Home Farm. It has its own learning resource centre and computer rooms, as well as being a hub for students to engage with industry professionals at the farm.
Put theory into practice
The commercial focus of all of our farming activities provides plenty of opportunities to gain experience, both inside and outside your learning. Home Farm offers hands-on voluntary, internship and paid roles throughout the year. Students develop a range of skills aimed at yielding consumer products in a sustainable and profitable way.
Agri-Tech Centre
Through our new £2million Agri-Tech Centre you’ll gain experience with the latest smart farming technologies and have opportunities to collaborate on real-world projects to improve productivity and profitability across the county.
