TheLegion of the Corpse-Moon are aJiralhanae-ledclan under the leadership ofChieftainDeukalion, presumably hailing fromDoisac's "corpse-moon" ofSoirapt. While the clan serves as alegion within theBanished, Deukalion holds the rank oflegionmaster. The Legion of the Corpse-Moon are known to be raiders.[1]
History[edit]
At some point prior toJuly 2559, the Legion of the Corpse-Moon were absorbed into theBanished.[2] After War ChiefEscharum received a message fromAtriox ordering him to finda fabledForerunnerportal onReach so that he could return to thegalaxy fromInstallation 00, the Legion of the Corpse-Moon were sent to theglassedhumancolony, alongside theKeepers of the One Freedom and theRavaged Tusks, to search for the "Portal under the Mountain."[2]
Upon reaching the colony, the clans were each sent to search a third of the world—with the Legion of the Corpse-Moon being assigned to search the southeastern third of theEposz supercontinent—but they had little luck in finding the portal. Deukalion and his forces began to squabble withChieftainBallas of the Ravaged Tusks over the resources found within the various human rehabilitation settlements.[2] However,DokabCastor, who led the Keepers, was able to reason with the two chieftains and convince them to continue their search for the portal. TheUNSC had sent ateam ofSpartans to Reach on amission to recover assets from the ruins ofCASTLE Base, but Castor felt sure that they were searching for the portal as well.[1]
As part of Castor's plan to follow the Spartans, forces from the Legion of the Corpse-Moon and the Ravaged Tusks would continue to harass them. Deukalion's forces would also participate in the faileddefense and recapture ofNew Mohács, a settlement constructed by theViery Militia.[3] Ironically, the Spartans did end up leading the three clans to the portal, as CASTLE Base sat atop the buried Forerunner facility.[4]
Forces from the Legion of the Corpse-Moon were amongst the Banished fighting during theBattle for Zeta Halo.[5]
Military assets[edit]
The Legion of the Corpse-Moon makes use of various Banished vehicles and weaponry, such asEklon'Dal Workshop Marauders,Wraiths,Banshees,Phantoms,Seraphs, gravity hammers,Erudo'ma'keth-pattern pulse carbines, andGrenflekt Workshop Spikers.[1] Though Banishedhumans were never permitted to fight in their forces,[6] species such asUnggoy andKig-Yar serve within their ranks under Jiralhanae leaders,[7] as well as BanishedSangheili from other Sangheili mercenary clans.[8]
