TheG81 Heavy Gunship custom heavy gunship variant of theD81 Condor dropship originally built byMisriah Armory. The G81 was custom-designed by personnel of the strandedUNSCSpirit of Fire during theSecond Ark Conflict.[1][4]

Design details[edit]
The G81 is built atop the airframe of the regularD81 Condor as a custom modification designed byIsabel, theSmart AI of UNSCSpirit of Fire.[4] The modifications made to the craft turn it into the heaviest combat aircraft in UNSC inventory, eclipsing theAC-220 Vulture, which is otherwise considered the heaviestofficial combat aircraft of the UNSC. Its modifications break several UNSC weapons platform and safety regulations, though Isabel felt that these modifications were necessary due to the extreme circumstances of war onthe Ark - and feels thatCaptain Cutter will have her back should the issue be tested in a UNSC court.[1][4]
The Condor gunship's armament consists of five twinpulse lasers, whose high rate-of-fire and ability to independently target enemy units makes them ideal against massed opponents. ABallista mini-MAC turret is also fitted, whose power allows it to defeat heavy targets. It can be upgraded to fire three shots in rapid succession. The weapon systems are powered by older capacitor banks which replace the slipspace drive, which also removes its faster-than-light capabilities.[4] These armaments turn the gunship into a flying fortress, making it extremely slow-moving, but powerful in combat.[1]
Operational history[edit]
Condor gunships were created in2559 during theSecond Ark Conflict. The AI Isabel modified several civilianD81-LRT airframes to provide heavy air support for the ground forces of theSpirit. It was first employed during theBanished attack on thecontrol room ofInstallation 09.[5] One of the G81s employed bySpirit of Fire were destroyed by Forerunner defenses duringOperation: SPEARBREAKER, in an attempt to stop aForerunnerDespair-class fighter from being launched by the Banished.[6]

The G81 Condor can be built by all UNSC leaders at the Firebase. As the Super Unit for UNSC, it is able to take on bothScarabs andRetriever Sentinels. It is effective against vehicles, aircraft, and structures, but is only okay against infantry. InBlitz, the Condor costs
300 energy, and is only on the field for 60 seconds.
In gameplay, the Condor can effectively strike slow-moving targets. A main drawback of the G81 Condor is that it's not capable of hitting any fast-moving unit - for instance,Ghosts,Hornets,Banshees, and other units can quickly evade its projectiles. Therefore, a constant escort for G81 Condor is required. Its Mini MAC abilities deal small area-of-effect damage and are devastating to all units that get hit. Do note that the Mini MAC may also miss when attempting to hit fast-moving targets.
Phoenix log[edit]
 Slow-moving but heavily armed and armored gunship. The Condor is a slow-moving but powerful gunship variant of the civilian dropship armed with multiple pulse laser turrets and a ballista mini-Magnetic Accelerator Cannon [MAC], all of which can independently target enemy units. The pulse lasers fire quickly, making them effective against massed units, and the MAC is unmatched in hard target elimination. It can be upgraded with a heavy gauss barrage, which fires three quick MAC blasts at enemy targets. Condor gunships produced on the Spirit of Fire lack a slipspace drive, however, with those systems replaced by older, bulkier. capacitors Isabel used to power the pulse lasers and magnetic accelerator cannon. The G81 Heavy Gunship, Isabel's reconfiguration of the Condor transport, breaks a large number of UNSC weapons platform and other safety regulations, but she's pretty sure Captain Cutter will have her back if they survive the war on the Ark. |
Production notes[edit]
TheHalo Encyclopedia (2022 edition) page on the Condor uses the image of the G81 Condor gunship, though otherwise describes a standard D81 Condor. In addition, the infobox header for the sectionerroneously labels the craft as aG81 Long-Range Transport,[3] rather than the originally-introducedG81 Heavy Gunship designation.[1]
