University Clearing through UCAS

You can apply for other courses through Clearing if you do not get a place on your chosen university course.

You may find another course through Clearing if:

  • you’re flexible about the course you study
  • you have reasonable exam results

You may still get a place on one of your chosen courses if you miss your grades by a narrow margin.

Who can use Clearing

You can use Clearing if:

  • you’ve completed aUCAS application
  • you do not get any offers
  • your offers are not confirmed

You can also use Clearing if you do not want any of the offers you’ve received. FindUCAS guidance on how to turn down a place to enter Clearing.

If you apply for your course after 30 June, you must apply through Clearing.

Find a course through Clearing

Clearing runs from early July to October each year. You can find out which courses have vacancies throughUCAS from early July. Not all universities or courses have vacancies, and some may be filled quickly.

You can contact universities and colleges about getting a place once you’ve got your exam results.

Accepting an offer through Clearing

You can only apply for one place at a time through Clearing.

If you accept a place, you’ll be sent confirmation byUCAS and the university or college.

If you change your mind about an offer you’ve accepted, you can apply for another place elsewhere. Before you reapply through Clearing to a new university or college, get confirmation they will offer you a place.
