Canadian Market Sales Figures
In 2013, the Canadian automotive market continued its post-recession recovery, and several key trends that began in prior years gained further momentum. 2013 witnessed another year of robust sales, continuing the growth from 2012. In fact, 2013 set a new sales record at that time, with over 1.74 million vehicles sold in Canada. The trend toward light trucks, SUVs, and crossovers became even more pronounced in 2013. While cars still constituted a significant portion of the market, the balance was shifting, with Canadians increasingly choosing larger vehicles for their perceived versatility, safety, and comfort. Within the passenger car segment, there was notable growth in compact and subcompact vehicles. The Honda Civic remained a favorite, often touted as Canada's best-selling car, but models like the Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Corolla, and Ford Focus also had strong showings.
