Opened in 1956, the GM Technical Center in Warren outside Detroit is a 710-acre campus with more than 21,000 employees, with groups focused on engineering, design, and advanced technology, among other functions. The site is  recognized as a National Historic Landmark. The campus was designed by the architect Eero Saarinen, who also designed the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, among other projects.
