LilyPond is a music engraving program, devoted to producing the highest-qualitysheet music possible. It brings the aesthetics of traditionally engraved musicto computer printouts. LilyPond is free software and part of theGNU Project.

LilyPond is a text-based music notation program. It produces elegant, balancedscores, the look of which was inspired by classical hand-engraving. LilyPondis cross-platform and extremely flexible thanks to its extension system writtenin the Scheme programming language.

LilyPond uses a versioning scheme that easily identifies stable anddevelopment releases. In a versionx.y.z, an even second numberydenotes a stable version. For development versions,y is odd.
