Cloud9, G2 Esports face potential RLCS relegation

Two iconicRocket League squads will face off against two RLRS teams for the chance to be a part of Rocket League Championship Series Season 9 next year.

Mariano "SquishyMuffinz" Arruda, who recently finished second in the Esports Play of the Year categoryat the Esports Awards, expressed his feelings on Twitter and explained that he will be setting his sights on the future rather than dwelling on the disappointment of this season.

After seventh and eighth place finishes in the RLCS Season 8 in North America for Cloud9 and G2 respectively, it is possible that one or both will drop out of the top tier of Rocket League competition into the Rocket League Rival Series.

NRG Esports triumphed in the region as champions of North America, following on from the team claiming a win at the firstRocket League Summit and addingEmiliano "Sizz" Benny as a coach in recent months.

While G2 have long been an established RL force and managed a second place finish at the previous RLCS Finals and DreamHack Pro Circuit: Montreal 2019, it seems that the organisation has fallen into a pattern of bad luck this season. With the best win percentage for a last place finish in the West, the level of competition was high over the last few months.

The Promotion Playoffs will take place on 30th November as C9 and G2 compete against the third and fourth teams from the RLRS for the now open spots.
