Essex Furniture has stopped trading on the Stock Market due to financial problems.
The company, which recently closed its Southend factory, making 60 workers redundant, asked for dealing in its shares to be suspended while it works out its position.
Essex Furniture bosses had warned in August that the company expected to have made a loss of £3.7 million in the first half of the year and to end the year in the red.
The company made a reduced profit of £913,000 in 1997, and blamed lower margins and higher advertising costs of £2.8m for this year's problems.
