Ian Roebling
Judge Ian Roebling is aNew York Justice of the Peace, who officiated atXanatos andFox’s wedding in1995.("Vows")Xanatos chose Roebling to conduct the ceremony because he knew the judge could be trusted.[1]
Roebling later attended the Xanatoses'Halloween party in1996, dressed as a knight (under the name of Sir Ian of Oxford), where he metGoliath again, andDelilah for the first time.("Masque")
In May1997, he was working at theNew York City Criminal Courthouse, where he presided over thehearing to determine Goliath's sentience. Roebling ultimately ruled that Goliath's sentience was "obvious and not truly in question" while also ruling that the gargoyle qualified for the same legal rights as any human. Such an unprecedented decision could have proven to be quite the debacle for Roebling amongst his colleagues and in the public's eye. These concerns were effectively assuaged by Xanatos, who helped Roebling do "the right thing" with a sizeable deposit transferred to the Judge'sCayman Island account.("New Rules")
