I'm here to show this classic beauty some real love, as well as share one more point of view for your consideration.
The first time I smelled this in 1994, it was wafting from a dear and beautiful friend, who instantly shared the name: True Love.
*sigh* - well, yes, isn't it, though?
Like a mother's love - nurturing, baby-pink, velvety roses wrap strong arms of reassurance warmly around you in a forgiving embrace. Then there is the fluffy, most delicate combination of iris + orris root offering a gentle, but persistent, foundation. Though I can easily see how this (now) inexpensive gem in the unassuming, utilitarian bottle can seem passe or at least somewhat dated, to me, it'll always be like coming home.
🥰

"Fume" is absolutely the right word for the first 5-10 minutes of this. I'm not being pejorative when I say - straight nail polish remover. It does dry down into something much nicer that I still find too sharp to be entirely pleasant. But I've layered this with a bit of Noa, and it does a world of good. The combo is as close as I've come to a perfect Nivea scent.
Edited to add: I take it back - drydown is pleasant, but it's the way-WAY drydown that makes this perfume an absolute gem. I sprayed it in my closet and days later, when I took out a shirt, it took me a moment to place the beautiful, powdery scent coming from it. A couple hours does this scent wonders, but a day or two is even better.

This smells like a freshly unwrapped scented panty liner. Not unpleasant, inoffensive and light. But it still smells like a panty liner.
IngridFitz04/21/25 00:24
I think this is a beautiful soft fragrance. I think an earlier review said this is the soapiest soap that ever soaped 😆 and I kind of agree. If you want to smell like you used a lovely soap and the scent is still on you then this would be great. Sometimes I like that type of scent and so I’m glad I bought this for those times. I really like it.

The newer bottles smell exactly like Versace Red Jeans to me
este9603/26/25 08:53
Wow, lovely notes on paper, but this one smells like bug repellent. BAD. Blind buy...so bad on me!This will be shelved to try in a few months, but I dont have much hope for this.NASTY!
Blossomlove02/19/25 01:44
Wow, all these beautiful notes and they make this? The stupid YT perfume person that suggested this should not be giving out advice. It honestly just smells like a fresh, yet dusty musk to me. Not much else here but a faint iris and white musk. I’m sure this is NOT what Grojsman originally made. I have a feeling the cheapening of production has cheapened this scent too. I will say it’s good for a fresh light bedtime scent. I never thought of wearing perfume to bed until O heard people saying they have bedtime scents, out of the shower scents. lol. Out of the shower you should just smell clean from showering but it’s interesting I guess.
Rcates7802/04/25 10:46
Sweetly green, powdery in a lovely way (and I'm not typically a fan of powdery notes), and florally fresh, shampoo fragrance. Reads classic, inoffensive, and feminine. Fits right in with other drugstore cheapie superstars that are well-crafted and wearable in most situations and at any age. Longevity is outstanding for an eau de toilette in this price range. Honestly, it's a solid performer that I imagine anyone would he happy to have in their collection.

So. Much. Soap. 🧼 The soapiest bride that ever soaped. 🧼
...Yet I really like it and keep it by my bedside for night time wear. Not sure I'd buy it again, but this 100 ml bottle was cheap, fun & lovely if one accepts it as it is, in all its vintage glory.
As a perfume maker hobbyist, I've been "studying" Sophia Grojsman of late and glad to have experienced this.
Edited to add: the sprayer broke and then I used it by pressing the atomizer stem and dabbing... and then I went back months later and it had completely evaporated. But now that it's gone, I totally want to replace it with another and will grab one on ebay again soon. This Sophia Grojsman is really strangely addictive, I am missing All. That. Soap. 🧼 And Sophia is my girl crush. 😍 She can do no wrong.
elusiveviktoria10/12/24 22:39
A clean soapy white floral that's powdery with the just right amount of subtle sweetness from the peach and apricot. This definitely has the typical Grojsman DNA and reminds me a lot of YSL Paris, but with less emphasis on the rose and more balanced specifically with the iris and heliotrope, is sweeter from the stone fruits and a lot more powdery. A lovely fragrance for all year round but specifically for the transitional period between winter and spring.
The second time I tried this again over a month later, I found it to be very heavy on lily of the valley with a slight sweetness and a strong powdery note. I also realised it smells like a Nivea serum I started using recently. I do wish the dry down had a little bit more punch personally. It's a really beautiful clean soapy fragrance which is light and airy, the dry down is very subtle if not barely there.
I just brought this today (Jan 31 2025) and I love it! I do think there is an issue where some bottles of it reek of a chemical baby wipe odour, but thankfully I got a good bottle! I tried it a third time before deciding whether to buy it (I found that I love it) and honestly I think the second tester bottle I had was a bad bottle.
swedishmilk1509/11/24 17:27
Gorgeous! Wasn't expecting to love this. Took a risk with a vintage 50 ml bottle (frosted with a gold & white cap). Turns out that I do! Freesia is a note that can make or break a fragrance for me. Trust Grojsman to handle it properly 🤍 True Love reminds me of Sun Moon Stars and Charlie Gold eau Fraiche. Great nonlinear scent that changes every few minutes for the first hour, then dries down to a musky floral peach. Pardon me, I'm off to spray some more!
Lovescents307/31/24 14:29
This is comforting and slightly old fashioned. She’s the blousy, overly powdered aunty from your childhood who gave big, suffocating hugs.
Let’s face it, there are still days when this is exactly what we all need.
Raylene8107/15/24 17:08
A fragrance reviewer I respect said this one was creamy/soapy. All I get on my skin is baby wipes. Will be returning this one. Still love Sophia Grojsman though! 😘
Cherry_Darling06/17/24 03:42
There is a touch of synthetic paint remover vibes here but, it is a good scent in my opinion. Orris and iris sometimes has a kind of tarmac / y synthetic effect, but in some cases like this one, it can be interpreted as a niche orris and in my opinion it's quite nice and wearable! Apricots defo come through, powdery iris (tarmac, paint remover) also there, in a way that I personally enjoy. Soft florals present. I really like this smell, not sure about buying a bottle but, definitely goes with my clean fresh musky powdery vibe I got going on these days. Like! Not really powdery or soapy to me more of a sharp dry ish iris with fruits and soft florals.
FrugalGourmand06/09/24 08:32
I think I will buy another bottle because the one I purchased smells like bleach and Lily of the Valley. This can't be.
Mystères du Château de Dé05/23/24 10:53
I bought this blind to add to my Sophia Grojsman collection for a low price, 12 USD 100ml. It arrived this week, and the bottle was manufactured 14 months ago, made in USA. The God of bargain commodities has blessed me with one of the "good bottles" of True Love. I can't reproach anything about it. Ok maybe don't smell it from the nozzle. It needs to air out a bit and then it's pretty.
It's a tangy fruity floral on me, and not powdery. Shoot me but I experience this as a remix of some notes from YSL Paris, with added peach/apricot. The vanilla is present through the wear. Yes there is a Nivea creme side to it. True Love is now in my category of Dime Store Gems and it is NOT the "charming yet bombastic and cloying" variety. It's balanced and I think it's high value and artful for the price.
Shoot me again because it smells like a Sophia Grojsman creation and sits just as well next to cheapie Vanderbilt as expensive YSL, if you can even find Paris. All these fragrances have been simplified and coarsened since their creation, but not ruined, IMO. YSL Paris is 80 USD for 75ml on discount sites and it's not what it used to be. True Love and Vanderbilt are still valid and enjoyable at both 10 bucks. I don't care so much for the total wear of the current iteration of Grojsman's Calvin Klein Eternity Woman. I like the first 30 minutes of that one.
mirrorghost04/12/24 21:04
this opens with apricot, iris/orris, lily of the valley, heliotrope and green notes. it's fresh, powdery and a little bit green, then becomes fairly soapy, i think due to the lily. during the soapy phase it's a bit much for me, but once it comes down, i find it very pretty-a powdery spring floral with hints of not too sweet fruits. the apricot note really shines later on.
FlowerSeeker04/12/24 17:33
Tangy peach is present from the start. Then it moves into a soapy floral. My vintage bottles have turned but I can still recognize that Arden dna.
Decodawn03/25/24 12:05
This is in edition to my previous review. The pure perfume 7.5ml is really beautiful and very different from the Eau de toilette. A much Richer fragrance immediately goes to the base notes without the harsh opening of the top notes as in the edt. Very romantic, floral, sophisticated and smells very expensive. Upon the initial launch 30 years ago in 1994 it was marketed as a Wedding Bridal Fragrance as a rival to Estee Lauder Beautiful. I do recommend buying the Pure Perfume which can now be purchased for under £20 quid on various online stores. I disagree with the old lady reviews. Chanel No 5 was launched in 1921, and is still the world's top selling fragrances. So don't be put off by these Older Fragrance Houses, the juices are quality ingredients and not just cheap highly diluted watered down celebrity fragrances that are flooding the market nowerdays. Try it you will love it. Highly recommended. 🙏 ❤
Bunny Haimovits03/04/24 22:26
I used to have it back in 90's and omg it was one of the most beautiful fragrances along with Champagne. Then saw it again last year and decided repurchase. I don't know what they changed but nowadays it smells like cheap soviet hairdresser place.
tender-violets11/13/23 19:26
Grojsman's concoction is a simplistic and elegant poem of falling in love.
The initial spray is sharp with its jolt of carnations and greenery. After a short time, the floral powders subside becoming a velvet potion of iris, heliotrope, and rose; as an olfactory sensation, it is as though someone has stuffed your head with fluffy cotton balls. There is no sweetness to this love affair, however, as True Love maintains a chilly quality for the mature wearer. Despite it's frigid soapiness, the amber stubbornly carries this scent along the wrists of this unassuming lady.
HippyDippy5711/06/23 07:17
I have decided I won't revisit any more perfumes that I used to wear in my youth, as it seems I am always going to be disappointed. True Love was a perfume I wore at a time in my life when I was going through a particular rough patch. At that time, the perfume was a well balanced, light floral - beautifully uncomplicated - with reasonable longevity. I loved it. When I sprayed it on today, that same beautiful scent greeted me but within less than half an hour, it had disappeared; I had sprayed myself and my clothes, and I could smell neither, nor could my husband. Such a shame.
Decodawn10/11/23 02:27
True Love ❤ spray, lightly. Wait. After half an hour I promise you, the fragrance has altered from the first initial impression and you will be left with a soft comforting romantic rose floral fragrance that smells both luxurious and contemporary. I disagree with the reviews that state this is screechy, old lady, this is a very well balanced Sophia Grojsman creation it definitely has the Tresor DNA. For a few pounds a large bottle can be purchased this is excellent value for money. If you love rose🌹 Feminine non fruity or strong fragrances this is a perfect buy. Purchased originally at launch I loved the Marketing advertising "True Love" song with Grace Kelly & Bing Crosby. It was launched in 1994 the year I got married. I have 2 bottles of unopened Perfume and 100ml edt which I wear throughout the year. Spring through to Winter daytime into evening there is nothing to dislike about this fragrance if you are a perfume lover and can appreciate its quality. Highly recommended 👌
MichelleAntonia10/03/23 15:30
@Annascott1 The comparison in question is to Love, Chloe Florale, not the original Love, Chloe. I agree, TL is not very much like that, but it does have similarities to the Florale.
rene.saller09/20/23 13:53
Not my favorite Grojsman creation, but not bad at all--not quite as much iris and rose as I was expecting, but the peach notes at the beginning are nice, and I like the soapy skin scent that lingers after a single spray, during the powdery drydown. I agree that the first blast is unpleasant--"fume" is the right word--but that doesn't last too long. Soon I get a subtle green musky soap scent, more like rose-scented soap than an actual rose. This layered nicely over the sadly evanescent Miss Dior Rose N'Roses that was exponentially more expensive.
molten_pearl09/12/23 10:16
My official introduction into the works of Sophia Grojsman. God, I really wanted to love this one. The notes listed above looked right up my alley. I've always loved subtle soapy, musky scents and was hoping that this could be a new everyday type of fragrance for me. Not the case, unfortunately.
For reference, I purchased a new bottle of EA True Love from an online perfume retailer. I do suspect that a bit of reformulation happened as my experiences don't match that of people with older bottles.
Upon initial application, it seemed like a promising fresh floral scent. However, if you give it 10 minutes or so to develop on your skin, it turns into a very aggressive, screechy, and synthetic head-ache. The green note dominates this fragrance for several hours. I smelled of crushed dandelion stems, gasoline, and chlorine. In fact, I almost suspected a gas leak in my room before I took a sniff of my shirt to realize it was just True Love. I had to survive around 8-9 hours of the atrocious gasoline and flower stems scent before I reached the final dry-down, which was a subtle musky second-skin scent. I almost couldn't even detect the dry down scent as my nose was assaulted by the top notes for so long. If that almost undetectable musky dry-down had been present from the beginning, I would have been a happy camper. But the dry-down is not worth the 8 hour journey to get there, in my opinion.
To its credit, it does smell "clean", but in a Windex sort of way rather than freshly washed linens in the French countryside kind of way. Use at your own risk.
I have had my current bottle for about three months and have worn it around 6 times. I might try it again at the one-year mark to see if my opinion changes or if the perfume improves with a little bit of time. Stay tuned, folks.
UPDATE: Its been five months since my initial review and around 8 months of owning this fragrance. My opinions, unfortunately, remain unchanged.
While I must admit that a little but of maturation helped with the awful opening and helped it mellow out, the juice still annoys me. The green notes are still jarring and remind me of falling face-first onto a patch of grass. The musky drydown is not good enough to suffer for.
I am halfway done with my 100ml bottle, largely because I cant bring myself to burden someone else with this mess. I used to believe that delegating fragrances you dont like to room and toilet sprays was wasteful. However, True Love apparently conquers all and this now sits in my bathroom to be used generously as a room spray and post-shower cologne.
God, I cannot wait to be done with this bottle. If anyone needs a reminder to stop blind-buying fragrances, this is it. If anyone needs a reminder that 100ml is a massive amount of fragrance that the average collector does not need, True Love will teach you that lesson.
Lotte_Liese09/01/23 01:35
A sharp, green rose dominant fragrance. I did not experience those fabled soft, powdery and iris accords. It would have been lovely if only I was not so put off by strong rose accords. It clung to my skin for 4-5 hours.
Seaworthy08/08/23 14:05
True Love is a beautiful, soft, powdery inoffensive fragrance that lasts an impressive 5-6 hours on my skin, longer on my clothing. It smells young and fresh, floral yet has depth. For me, it's appropriate as a daily fragrance in spring and summer. I feel sad for those who have a dissimilar experience. I get only positive vibes from this perfume.
annasarahr12108/06/23 14:10
Well, I love some of Sophia Grojsman's perfumes (Bill Blass Nude, Bvlgari Pour Femme, Ex-cla-ma-tion, Diamonds and Rubies, White Linen, etc.), but this is not one of them. It opens very bitter, but not in a good way, with kind of a searing, plastic, eraser-type note. As it dries down, it's not as bad, but it just never gets pretty, in my opinion; just a bit yuck. : /
Annascott107/21/23 18:08
I bought this perfume because I had read others comparing it to the tragic-inexplicably-discontinued Love, Chloe, a masterpiece and probably my all time favorite perfume 😭. So naturally I searched the internet for the biggest bottle I could find and anxiously awaited it arrival. When it came I ripped it open to test it and see how well it compared and to my dissatisfaction and disappointment: NO. Just no. Nothing at all like Love, Chloe. I know bc I still have a little left in my bottle. And this is not even close. Save your money for either a copy of Love, or get yourself a bottle off eBay while you still can. I plan to.
pmgt07/19/23 06:16
I've bought several bottles (always from the same trusted store)...and I have to say: some smell exquisite, others smell kind of sharp and cheap. So I share both the "yes" and the "no" opinions... Maybe to depends on the batch? And if so...why??????????
Now, when it's the "good" juice, it's soft, feminine and cozy... It's been my everyday, after-shower fragrance for years, since it's so clean and relaxing, and it layers beautifully with almost everything.
I simply adore the peach and the apricots in it.
CaraQ07/11/23 17:05
Even in its hey day, this didn’t smell great. Super sharp, almost stinging, and smelled terribly cheap.
Moving forward so many years, if you see it, just say no.
nanaquadros06/27/23 15:48
Tardigrada05/18/23 11:33
I still find myself hunting down cheap thrills again and again partially because I love a good underdog and partially because I'm still stuck in survival mode and being afraid to spend significant amount of money on perfume and still being able to feed the addition of buying perfume.
This is definitely a gorgeous little number, wouldn't expect nothing less from Sophia Grojsman. It's undoubtedly dated, but not in a way that would discourage me. The opening is quite jarring with a bunch of synthetic peaches and apricots, vaxy, sticky and prickly chemical. 10 minutes later it transforms into a cozy soft creamy and rich concoction, no rough edges, just retro vibes and softness. I get anosmic to it pretty quickly, I suppose that's where people say it lacks longevity. But it's only deceptive as I can still smell it on my home lounging clothes couple of days later and the dry down is a completely different beast. It's a musky powdery bomb, moderately prickly and old fashioned.
Suncica705/09/23 05:00
I cannot forget how gorgeous it was! I was around 5/ 6 years old, back in '97. I used to stay at my aunt's apartment, which, in poverty and pre-bombing years of Podgorica, then Yugoslavia, was really something. My aunt wore this, and sprayed me all around, I fell in love. My fascination with perfumes dates from back then.
Love, love, love.
It was feminine , it was ROSE , it was romantic... she recently got it again, it smells just as I remember it.
It is not my jam anymore, but I appreciate it a lot. Will forever have a special place in my heart.
marissarose05/04/23 18:31
I can understand why people could be put off from this because the first time I tried it was a blind buy and I thought it smelled like SCREECHY baby powder. I honestly didn't revisit it for quite some time but I had a complete turn around with this fragrance. I get lipstick and peaches from this and it is so beautiful. It's a comforting powder scent just like a big hug. I've been wearing it lately and I almost crave this sometimes. A definite love
ScentBlind03/22/23 22:12
Some patience is required for this one. I was disappointed by the powerful Nivea smell thinking another blind buy fail, only to be rewarded by pleasing powdery, musky sweetness the next day on a test paper. Not anything unique about it though. It takes about 1 hr+ for the magic to take effect on my skin. The flat bottle is very utilitarian – a space saver!
Scented Teacher03/13/23 12:46
Very delicate, powdery and comforting. Like using rose soap, putting on pyjamas and cuddling up with a blanket. Clean baby also comes to mind.
Lovely.
Printeza702/19/23 08:23
I just bought me a full bottle of this after trying a miniature bottle! Not sure why the reviews are so bad, I think this is beautiful! After 2 minutes or so there is a strong scent of the iris and heliotrope, and then sets beautifully, not overpowering, just clean aromatic floral smell. Warm and welcoming and such a good price! I like it a lot :-) Not lasting power though.
MsLittlejohn12/30/22 11:54
I agree with the voters, this smells very similar to Love, Chloé eau Florale. Could easily pass for that! And at a fraction of the cost, always great. 👍🏼😉
Strong like.
mhubbard196111/21/22 03:18
I liked this scent very much at first but I tired quickly of it after buying a full bottle almost 30 years ago. To me it is a very young girls' first perfume. A la Sweet Honesty, which I like better, EA scents are very hit or miss, and mostly miss, but they are cheap. This is neither professional nor sexy.
Entle2911/15/22 02:29
My mom uses it as her office air freshener. Rightfully so😑
redberrykitty11/10/22 07:36
I agree with other reviews that you have to let this sit for a while. I sprayed some on my hand yesterday when I got it, and it was so SHARP... I think it's the freesia, because many scents with freesia have a sharp, nose-burning quality to them at first. This scent, however, becomes very soft as time goes on, and it is great!
I kinda wish I didn't have a 3.4 oz bottle, but that was all I could find. Definitely worth a shot if you want one of those soft, only slightly powdery scents. If the freesia was toned down, I think I'd like this more. For some reason, freesia notes in perfume are so powerful... the scent of freesia in real life is strong, too, but more bold and well-rounded and I like it. It must be a synthetic thing.
On the other hand, I like the iris note here. I expected this to be more iris and heliotrope heavy. It probably is when it's dried down, but my nose picks up the freesia disproportionately at first.
I also didn't realize that the juice was THAT purple. Be careful if spraying it on something white.
Anyway, it's a good scent! Versatile, for all seasons, day/night (especially a chill day or cozy night). I'm glad I tried it because I don't have a scent like this in my collection, and I have been trying to expand past gourmands, ambers, and vanillas.
Petrab8310/29/22 18:13
This is one of the hidden gems with amazing lasting power at least for me. It's highly inoffensive, and is what a clean woman should smell like. Perfect for when you're not sure what to wear as it's appropriate for every occasion.
supersaiyan10/19/22 08:25
Thick and velvety apricot cream, quite synthetic though - the Grojsman accord is really strong in this one. True Love is hyperfeminine in a cozy, faultless way. The smell is reminiscent of the texture and colour of Chantilly lace wall paint. It's not particularly powdery, you can find it if you search for it but it's masked by the wet velvet of the Grojsman accord. Kind of cloying to me, I'd wear it only in cold fall and winter, it's a very thick and sweet but still "cold" scent.
Bomber8110/09/22 16:02
Do not scrub this off if you hate the opening.
Give it a few minutes and let it settle..
It softens really quickly into a divine plush blanket of clean laundry, fresh off the line, after having absorbed all of the beautiful surrounding greenery, flowers and fruit, nothing overpowering the other. The scent blends so well and as it moves through the notes, it settles into the softest, yet still noticeable beauty.
It is love. True love.. not play-with-your-heart flirty or temporary, but true genuine unconditional love. It embraces you, holds you, in a hug that is gentle and sincere.
My mother doesn't have a signature scent, but we once had a conversation about perfume when I divulged my deep interest and she mentioned Avon's Sweet Honesty and how she always thought she could wear that. I suggested she would like this one too. I had the 30ml bottle of each, having just bought them 2nd hand blindly, so I sprayed them both while on the phone and I can so see either being hers. I live far from home and after that conversation, I associate them with her. I don't wear either often as the bottles were only half full, but when I'm homesick the most, I love to spray a little of this and imagine she is here. I'm unable to shop online, but I'm going to find a way to get a bottle to her somehow and I hope she loves it as much as I do, as much as I do for her, in my mind and in my heart. As much as I do for myself.
I've been hesitant, because if she told me she didn't, it would crush what I have - this self soothing comfort of feeling close to her when I wear it or even see the bottle.
Give this one a few tries before you decide yay or nay. Every time I wear it, I love it even more.
This is the perfect scent for after the bath, before bed. I use the original Dove bar and this pairs so well with that.
The bottle holds so nicely in the hand, there's a deep connection, it fits like a glove - shape and scent.
As it fades, I get wafts here and there reminding me to be gentle with myself, to love myself, to take care to share my love with those who truly love me and to make sure to always let them know. ❤
Edit: tonight I sprayed Sweet Honesty with abandon and went searching online to identify which bottle I have as the lid is missing. I didn't find mine, but did find the "Precious Doe" bottle that used to sit on my mother's dresser top and as I lay here covered in Sweet Honesty, I can smell her here with me. This is my mother. True Love is very similar and I just know she will love it as well, so I will try to find a bottle of both to send to her.

After trying Elizabeth Arden's White Tea and finding that I really liked that perfume, I researched this perfume and bought a sample.
This perfume shows the softer, more romantic range of Sophia Grojsman.
This smells like an exquisite French milled soap that you find in a European hotel room which lets you know that they have attended to each and every detail as if they were wanting to leave you with an impression that you have had the best vacation ever!
This is the type of scent that makes you want to curl up and read a romantic novel.
This is tender, cozy, non offensive, lovely!
This is feminine, clean, soft, romantic, sweet, a perfume for sweet dreams and gentle hugs.
This perfume is little bit of heaven on earth!
True Love is a light floral which smells very close to Nivea Cream.
-----------
Verdict -
This is something like vanilla ice cream. You may get bored with it, unless this is really your favorite thing.
I think they should have named this something other than "True Love". People read way too much "into" it, with a name like that... don't they? -- That seems very limiting for this perfume.
------------
I like the name "True Love" --
This perfume is more of a "True Like" -- for me.
Still, this definitely has its place in a fragrance wardrobe - particularly after an evening shower, when you want to smell extra fresh and pretty for bed time.
I think this perfume would have been better named "Sweet Dreams"!
solsekuin4409/09/22 16:15
I went to the store out of curiosity when people claimed that this one is a powdery, soapy scent..
I totally love it!!! So clean, dreamy.. It's non offensive. Now that my Love Chloe is finishing (around 20-30% of the bottle T-T), I think this will be my everyday scent. I love it, priced very cheap currently.
Petrab8306/27/22 19:34
I'm not sure why the negativity but this lasts on me. It's a clean scent, mixed with feminine florals. It smells beautiful and is appropriate for the office.
chinna06/19/22 21:40
From the beginning I smell chemicals fresh pink roses. Maybe with a peachy twist. Not really powdery in dry down. Pretty clean fragrance, prominent freesia and water lilies floraly soapy cause the heliotrope. Nothing sweet or vanilla . I hear that it seems to be a hairstyle spray , i don't think so. I see this fragance more like a vintage white floral. Because there is one persistent clean note a little bit annoying .
Skinscents4Fusspots05/26/22 04:02
I don't want to sound mad but for any Brits this might be helpful.... This starts off like florals on top of pear drop boiled sweets and then dries down in to florals on top of chewy milk bottle sweets that were in the bag with the pear drops! I think that's why the reviews are so torn and it's so hard to get an idea of what this actually smells like! Longevity is pretty bad on my skin but it's so cheap I'm happy to keep topping it up and going on the journey from tangy to creamy!
In case it helps, I tested them side by side and if you like the initial burst of tangyness from True Love then you will love Alfred Sung's Forever. Forever has the tangy floral vibe that this one starts with, but it's linear, stronger, projects way better and lasts all day. It just doesn't have the creamy sweet base that True Love has.
LolaVoyage05/17/22 15:05
I am surprised about the numerous unfavourable reviews preceding mine. I never would have thought that there would be anyone not liking this.
How can you dismis something so airy, lovely, soft, inoffensive - just a beautiful creation. Not everything has to be in your face, loud and literaly stunning. Sometimes I am in the mood for the later, indeed. At other times you just want to feel embraced by a heavenly cloud of clean cosyness. That‘s what it is to me. A true love.
Itstartedwithtinkerbell05/16/22 10:52
Soft, pretty warm peach skin fuzz. I like it. The peach fuzz reminds me of the peachy aspect of D&G The One. This is a little more of a girly floral, but there is a lot of similarity. It’s a win of a blind buy for me.
MarianOz05/10/22 20:08
Peach and apricot notes don’t work for me. They are prominent in this scent.
VictoriaJune05/03/22 03:50
A blind buy based on the notes I tend to like and bargain price, I thought it would be ideal for work, but I just cant wear it. Tried it twice and made me feel sick and head achey, really disappointed.
TatianaChoco04/14/22 05:21
Good scent for a good price. Soft. Light. Clear. The strongest notes are apricot with peach, green notes and powdery notes with iris.
MeiGol03/20/22 12:57
I don't believe that Sophia Grojsman could make THIS.
What I bought from FragranceX is a flat, pale, colorless, uninteresting scent. It does not grow or develop in any way in time, sillage and projection are non-existent.
Revlon decided to get rid of this perfume as unnecessary? Terrible disappointment. Fortunately inexpensive.
Katy9403/10/22 12:09
Ahhh.. iam disappointed
I was hoping to get sweet powdery notes something like Valentino Valentina Poudre or Montale Powder Flowers
But this one is more like Insolence Guerlain .. smells like something u will use to wash clothes some washing detergent..:/
Later when it settles down it gets better rounder and more powdery but still not the powder I like
tresi02/16/22 13:38
If you dialed Red Jeans way down and put it in a diffuser so it became an airy, light, soft, powdery perfume that is warm & comforting like the softest throw wrapped around your shoulders or your ear against the chest of a loved one to hear their heartbeat, you'd have pretty well described True Love. Enjoyable, dreamy, wearable, classy, feminine & beautiful. I gifted it to my mom, who loves soft, powdery fragrances & she's happy with it.
Vabeachtiff01/27/22 15:24
Gives me fancy pink bar soap realness! So soft, powdery and feminine. I adore this gem because the size of the bottle and you can always find this for cheap. Great for after bath, to spray on linen, perfect perfume before stepping out on a cold day, and perfect for the spring. Don't over spray even though lasting power may not be the longest. Just lightly reapply.
melusina198201/12/22 04:50
Soft and powdery like no other. It is a light fragrance but it stays with you the whole day.
The fruity aspects make the rose "rounder". It has that wonderful rose+peach combination only Sophia Grosjman can make appealing.
Perfect for spring and summer and specially good after having a shower and using nivea lotion in the dark blue bottle.
I mostly use it at home for relaxing after a stressful day or when I just want to smell effortlessly great.
ssamhita01/10/22 18:38
When I first sprayed True Love on my arm, I made the mistake of sniffing it right away and I almost gagged. It smelled of glue stick somehow. I hated it so much I hid the bottle under my clothes so I wouldn’t even have to look at it. Each time I smelled my arm (ever do that? Keep smelling even if it’s a bad smell just to confirm how bad it is?) I’d gag.
But. But. But.
Something happened in around half an hour. I found myself enveloped in this beautiful comforting smell that made me think of soft lotion and linen dresses. That’s when I realised that it is one of those scents you shouldn’t bury your nose in. You should let it waft to you. You should let it do its thing. Such a creamy clean scent! I find myself reaching for it one days when I crave simplicity and comfort. So happy I gave this one a chance.
Reddresspress01/07/22 13:00
So happy I waited for this to work it’s magic before scrubbing it off. Opening is a brutal chlorine like odour & it took a while to turn into something amazing.
This fragrance, if you can get through the opening, is pure comfort. So clean. Not a just out of the shower clean though; not fresh & sporty. This one’s a just out of the bath, slathered in skin cream & bath powder and cuddling up in a soft robe for a night-in clean.
Was worth the wait to get beyond what was a pretty rank opening.
deshenychristelasher01/05/22 20:27
This is definitely a powdery fragrance. Roses, woody. Vintage.
sagasår12/30/21 20:36
Ugh! First initial hit is pure impulse body spray! After a little while it mellows into my greatest fragrance enemy! Red Jeans.
The horrific powdery synthetic peach... its vile to me. It truly is a red jeans dupe very very similar notes... suspiciously similar, so I suppose if you like this fragrance then red jeans would be perfect for you. But for me? Absolutely not. Its disgusting. -1/10
Feige12/06/21 04:09
The initial spray is absolutely horrible. There’s a note in it that’s very sharp and synthetic, reminiscent of hairspray like some other people have already mentioned. It actually hurts my nose. You know that feeling when it’s minus degrees outside and suddenly you get a pain-attack in your nose for a few seconds? This scent gives me a mild version of that kind of pain at first. Luckily the awful note disappears after a few minutes and there’s a fresh, slightly green and floral scent left. It does smell a little soapy, but not the aldehydic vintage kind. It’s more like a fresh shower gel, not powdery at all imo.
I sprayed this on my arm as well as my clothes and I think the scent develops beautifully on both, however I prefer it on my skin. It smells more warm and sweet on my skin whereas it smells more cool and fresh on the clothes.
A good thing to note is that it’s winter where I am right now. Like I mentioned earlier, I spritzed it all over my arm and I find that it smells the most beautiful right on my wrist which is the warmest area. That’s why I think this scent will be better for slightly warmer months.
As for the vibe, I decided to blind buy this scent as I’m running low on my favourite daytime fragrance (Coty L’aimant Rose) which is rosey, powdery and soapy. True Love seemed to be in a similar vein based on the reviews and the notes.
But while L’aimant Rose makes me think of innocence, going to bed and burying myself under a fluffy blanket, getting a hug from a comforting woman (such as a mom) and wearing clean sweaters, True Love reminds me more of a morning shower in a white mansion, curling up with a book on the couch while it snows outside and later throwing snowballs with the kids (I’m in a very wintery mood haha). It’s a comforting, womanly and elegant but also quite energetic scent. It’s sort of the opposite of what I was looking for but I don’t mind it.
Noelanii11/16/21 04:28
This scent is so creamy, smooth, warm, enveloping and comforting. Yet it doesn't come off as innocent, but rather womanly and elegant. It has more of a classic Grojsman vibe rather than a modern cold iris style. Lovely for chilly nights and cozy jumpers.
natalia603211/06/21 16:45
I blind bought this and ended up giving it away, as I couldn't get over a really sharp hairspray element it has. The dry down is nice, creamy, similar to Nivea, but that sharp note remains and spoils the whole thing for me. I'm not sure what it could be- looking at the pyramid, possibly green notes. I would also say it smells quite dated.
staka0111/01/21 16:15
I blind bought this because I am currently into powdery and was hoping to find a cheapie. Sadly on first spray I hate it. There is a note that I believe is musk and I am finding out that unless it is well blended/hidden, I do not like musk at all.
LSAUG10/29/21 10:27
Well my husband was out running errands w/out me and when he came back he had bought 2 bottles of perfume for me. I was shocked because I had sworn off buying anything else. But he said they are Elizabeth Arden and they were dirt cheap so I thought you should have them. I married a nice guy. Anyway on to reviewing this perfume.
This starts out slightly fruity but the powdery lipstick iris comes and she comes to stay. This is very creamy and has a lotion like quality. It reminds me of what Mugler's Alien could be if it wasn't so gross and overpowering. If you have smelled Alien and was turned off by it but still want something that has that jasmine/musky/lipstick/powdery/amber/lotion type of vibe, give this inexpensive beauty a try.
Edit 1031/21 Don't get me wrong this isn't a dupe for Alien. It just has that extreme fake vibe like Alien, especially the fake jasmine and amber accords. I do detect a lot of jasmine w/ this one, although it is very artificial. This one isn't as gross and sickly as Alien. And upon further inspection of this perfume I find I can not wear it. I don't hate it but it just isn't me. It will make a great air freshener for the bathroom. Perfume works so much better than air freshener and lasts longer. Plus this bottle was $10 for 3.4 ounces. Air Fresheners cost more.
Zombie Apocalypse10/15/21 17:48
Whoever said this perfume smells like Nivea was really spot on. Looking at the notes I should like it but i found it horrific. It smells old like a nursing home or a very very old lady smell. Scrubbed it off right away. Not for me.
Alexandra.kom10/12/21 03:58
Iris & orris root , these are the notes i detect!
clean , soft , i wear it after my shower , smells lovely
Alinany09/24/21 04:51
Clean dusty Iris powder. In the air it smells like Nivea. It makes a great work out, everyday and bedtime fragrance.
I want to love EA perfumes but they dont work on my skin. But True Love is an exception. I also have a special connection with this fragrance We both made it out to this world in 94! Lol
It doesnt smell dated and it is very comforting.
I wore it to bed I could still smell it in the morning, there is not much sillage but it lasts a decent amount of time. If Insolence and flankers were too much for you, this is very wearable. I recommend it to every fresh, soft, clean, powdery, light perfume lovers especially for the price.
Nicer in warmer weather
Dustxsparkle08/31/21 03:58
Way too powdery for me. I even tried to use it as a bedtime scent like what a few reviewers here suggested and that was the one and last time I did that. It was just too suffocatingly powdery for me.
The powderiness does diminish after a while, but even then the scent is just your usual typical crowd pleasing feminine scent - nothing too special really. Silage and longevity is ‘eh’ as well.
I do however have to say that it is extremely value for money, since it’s so affordable and there’s so much juice with how big the bottle is.
Would not repurchase though.
ElixirMixir08/11/21 16:29
I am a person who has always been drawn to dark, seductive, spicy, ambery, Middle Eastern type fragrances. My collections contains mostly voluptuous, incensy orientals but True Love is a staple in my collection. I blind bought it a couple of years ago and it immediately became one of my favorite bedtime scents. It is unique to me (a fragrance can be unique without being totally avant garde). It is pure, creamy, clean and feminine goodness. It instantly evokes comfort. It is the smell of a freshly showered body slathered in a luxurious original scented lotion like Keri or Nivea. It is just a sweet, soft cloud surrounding you. I adore it
Katie <307/13/21 14:56
I love this pretty scent. It smells clean and innocent. I use this in the same way I use musk, after a shower or whenever I require a comfort scent at home. I have enjoyed this perfume since I was a child.
Lemon_Candy0407/08/21 13:27
I'm a girl in my early twenties, and let me tell you, I don't mind this scent at all. Yes, it does have a sort of powdery, old lady type of smell, but this is an amazing powdery floral perfume (also, doesn't have strong perfume alcohol on the initial spray ). Not strong at all, but when faded a few hours later, you can somehow catch a whiff of this scent on a windy day. I'll be honest, I did not detect any fruits on the first notes, but I liked how this perfumed turned out to be like some strong pot-pourri flower arrangements your grandmother would keep in her house.
ivoryfoxglove06/25/21 15:12
Not entirely unpleasant, but kind of smells like womens deodorant on skin- very powdery
jay.shouse05/16/21 11:37
Seaworthy; This smells nothing like Nude not even close. This is unique and beautiful a stand alone as a beauty and unique, I have smelled nothing that smells like True Love❤️
SundayGirl0704/01/21 18:20
This just smells like pure hairspray to me. It's not a bad smell, just smells like Rave hairspray.
Seaworthy01/25/21 19:24
This is a beautiful, sweet fragrance. Whenever I wear this my husband always comments and says I smell like I just applied a pretty body lotion. That is what I get from True Love, a VERY powdery, sweet, innocent, creamy lotion type scent. Light and airy, it is perfect for any casual occasion but my favorite way to use it is as a bed time scent. It doesn't have the best lasting power on me but for bed time who cares? I absolutely love it!
March 2021
I want to add that True Love smells VERY much like another Sophia Grojsman creation Nude by Bill Blass. Very sweet, creamy, powdery, Nivea lotion type smell on the top. Not exactly alike but very similar. I'd say True Love is a bit sweeter and more linear throughout, whereas Nude has a little more complexity and depth. Both are beautiful fragrances.
anitasaastamoinen12/10/20 06:11
This so unusual than any other fragrance I´ve smelled and I´m pleaseantly surprised. I didn't exactly know, what to except (blind shopping), but this is lovely and I am happy. Also I bought this, because it´s a Grojsman, now I have Volupte, True Love and Diamonds and Rubies from her (and also Tresor in love, which is so much like Tresor). Which is best, I´m not sure. This is fruity (apricot, peach), powdery, floral and also woody, suitable for any season and any age. It reminds me about Red Jeans from Versace, a little bit like Noa also (but more like Red Jeans, I guess I´m gonna have Red Jeans). This works for me so much better than Sunflowers (too aquatic for me, but fine for other people, I must admit). And price is fine too, such a bargain!
Ally Summo10/27/20 22:57
I bought this purely because it is a Grojsman creation and it was only $13 AU at my local chemist (I am not usually a pure floral fan, more into woody white floral cyphres). It is pretty, light, and smells like a lovely sweet hair conditioner. I do enjoy the powdery iris / violet dry down. It is very sweet so I would have to add something woody to wear it on an ongoing basis. It reminds me of Paris, or Tresor without the apricot.
Openseason10/26/20 09:54
Pretty. Stole it from my mom, didn’t hesitate to give it back. Smells like a sophisticated body wash or conditioner honestly. Nothing groundbreaking.
jero10/09/20 19:03
surprised to find a 6cm glass tube lies bare undetectedly in the corner of my closet, it's already 20+ years! after those love affairs and lovers in my life this is my Ture Love.
and it's Sophia Grojsman <3 not that iris much but strong in the rose.
naksahdill09/28/20 07:28
This is a very affordable and good perfume. In a world of la vie est belle dupes and black orchid-like scents I find this scent to be somehow a classic. Not a chanel 5 classic but indeed a 90'S classic. It has a certain decency and deffinetely smells a bit like Nivea but is far better than all the gourmand sweety sexy girlish fragrances of the decade.
Jacob198409/02/20 04:20
Very long lasting, my bottle is 5 years old, it last 2 days in my clothes on my skin maybe a few hours. This is truly a beauty. I love True Love.
Tracyellen161909/01/20 15:37
Just got this because I’m such a fan of Arden Beauty, and this sounded soft and pretty as well. It’s really lovely. It’s not something I would probably have cared for years ago because I was more attracted to the spicy orientals. This is not that. I’m getting a lot of powder, Lily of the valley, some iris. Sweet, innocent smelling. Moderate longevity but delicate sillage.
Minnitriin08/24/20 05:07
My new love. It was a purchase without testing and smelling previously and I am totally happy. It's soft, not overwhelmingly sweet and powdery. Just enough together with a touch of freshness in it. What I am loving the most is how it changes in some time after wearing. It is shortly turning from lotion like smell to complex bouquet of well balanced, warm, subtle, unique scent. Lasts long as well.
ManoChrome08/11/20 10:46
I am totally late in first sampling this in 2020 :)) True Love is a very soft, powdery floral with a modest sillage. The name said it all: it is true love indeed, but not erotic love, but an innocent and warm, rather motherly love. It is clean, white, comforting and safe. Reminds me of Nivea, but this is a more sophisticated version of it.
However, I am not looking for this type of clean and safe fragrance now, I am still enjoying my fragrantic experiences, but I would totally buy it as a present for my grandmother if I still had her around...
dglightblue08/01/20 23:45
true love, winter test, skin and card.
well after all the nozzle testing - where im guessing they were a bit off - i had a proper test and this is so nice, not at all of its time - doesnt smell old, its ageless.
clean, crisp abd bright with out being sharp, a little soapy clean. and for $30 for a big bottle why not. a great easy reach scent. Arden does affordability and nice east scents all the time.
yep give it a go
didnt last great on the back of my hand... i had better test it on its won as i was trying lots of other much stringer smells that day
Violetgoblin07/29/20 12:50
I remember the ads in 1994, I was 20, a good year. The ads were simple, and allowed the gorgeous, simple bottle of sweet, pale pink juice to shine, entwined with roses. There was a tester strip, I believe, lol, in the May issue of Cosmopolitan with Bridget Hall seductively staring in a tight, white sheath. The magazine smelled of it.
A deep, almost sugar toned rose. Deep. A deep and bodied fragrance, unlike the wispy generic stuff of today in my opinion, i.e. Marc Jacob's Daisy or Tory Burch scents. And not like the heavy hitters I experimented with in the 90s like Spellbound or Joop. It was feminine, powdery almost, and unique.
I never bought it until 1998, instead going with the cloying, screechy Sunflowers in 1995. The scent that defines the incredible, sun splashed summer of 1995 for me.
I love True Love to this day. It definitely transports me to the carefree, primordial days of the mid 1990s. Sassy magazine (it was, in fact, featured in Sassy in a glorious fragrance spread in 95 or so, along with Navy, Love's Frenzy, Lauren, CK One, and, my high school favorite, Calyx), black and white velvet formal dresses, Revlon Toast of NY lipstick, L'Oreal Mattique foundation, black GAP blazers, and the movie Before Sunrise.
Soft, but deep, powder, rose, comforting and pink. Some milky notes in there. Someone aptly said flowers in a vase, sitting there awhile. Yes. But to me in a good way. Or a rose corsage from prom that's been sitting on your dresser for a week surrounded by a yellow canister of Lush Silky Underwear powder, an amber oil from that hippy shop, Johnson's Baby Lotion, and a bottle of Teen Spirit Romantic Rose shampoo. The Sundays are playing in the background and you're waiting for your boyfriend to call.
kateclarkecosmetics07/15/20 19:55
Distant relative of Eternity. No way is this an oriental! It’s really a powder shot. I remember it smelled more floral back in the day. Could be I am older though! Lots of people say this is comforting, clean, like a warm jumper - I agree. It is shy, where Eternity has louder notes. I think most people could wear this - age is not a barrier, nor gender. Suitable for casual or the office. probably not great for a big night on the town.
meemee0007/11/20 17:02
I was hoping for a soft fresh summer scent that I could douse myself in after a shower and feel like a clean goddess all day, but though I like it on the first spray .. I think of zwitsal creme and that also is a nice scent and has its own perfume "Zwitsal Baby eau de toilette". I'm afraid it leaves me a little uncomfortable.
I might give this one another go in colder weather.
FragrantMama06/07/20 15:55
This is a soft and beautiful powdery floral. So light and delicate. I usually like perfumes that are a bit bolder but this is perfect for a really hot day or when I have had a migraine and need a really soft and light scent.
ViouAmara04/10/20 06:54
it could be part of the typical Sunflowers family, but starting with a musky rose and sweet iris. Not bad at all, indeed, and could please anyone. A little bit synthetic perhaps, but not more than any of the Sunflowers.
I like to wear it.
gillbert03/15/20 20:13
lovely clean fresh fruity floral, so easy to love, i spray it on after shower, so nice and delicate, and i feel rejuvenated, for me it is very versatile perfumes, i can wear it for formal, informal, night, day too, and worth for my money
octobertragedy02/18/20 05:14
I don't know what to say about the original formulation of this fragrance, all I can say is that my bottle is made after 2010 and I really like it. It's an interesting blend of fruity floral green notes.
It's not simple at all, actually it is quite unique and complex. The floral notes I can easily detect are lily of the valley, freesia and iris. After a few hours something sharp and a little bit disturbing comes out...some sort of a synthetic flower (rose, iris, jasmine). The sharpness is tamed town by sweet peach, apricot, sandalwood and a soft milky note. The whole mix is likable though, creamy and clean, like a moisturizing body lotion.
I wouldn't call it safe because some people may find some headache inducing and unpolished floral notes it the mix, but it is incredibly long wearing and unique.
meg082501/01/20 16:54
When you just want to smell clean, this is a good one to reach for. True Love is sharp, soapy, and green with the first spray. The fruity notes emerge but are not overly sweet. It softens to a powdery clean iris and rose skin scent fairly quickly but the longevity is good.
Sade80011/11/19 01:23
This smells lovely!
A nice soft clean soapy smelling perfume when you don't want to wear anything strong.
I bought a sample and might get a full sized bottle.
Great price too!
jaybo.shouse11/05/19 23:57
I don’t get the “This has poor longevity” reviews True Love is softer but it does last through out the entire day, I can get 12 hours on clothing.
Mad-Lainey10/12/19 06:28
Absolutely wonderful, creamy floral with a subtle fruity twist. I enjoy it regardless of the season, winter, summer, it is incredibly versatile.
I can detect the combo of lily of the valley and freesia, not so much rose.
Apricot surely stands out, a semi ripe, fresh, sweet note.
True Love reminds me of a (sadly) discontinued Sun Moon Stars, a gem also created by Sophia Grossman. True Love is, to me, a tamed little sister of SMS.
True Love could easily become my signature juice if it wasn't for its performance. It's moderate (at best) longetivity and silage puts it at the back of the potential signature fragrance queue.
I'm yet, however, to acquire a pure perfume so we shall see.
Overall, a beautiful feminine composition, great for a weekend together or a day out with family.
Kudos to Sophia Grojsman.
A_K_07/24/19 01:25
this is a beautiful soft lotion powder scent,
in fact this smells exactly like the old blue nivea in a tin cream, it is lovely.
mschnabel66604/18/19 07:16
This was my signature in the late 90s. I even found my old 1 oz bottle which if memory serves- I used to store on my bedroom windowsill (THE HORROR!!!!)
For $4 I bought a 100ml of the current True Love. And it's awful. I don't normally say that about perfumes, and I don't normally trash reformulations-- but shit... TL is bad!
The brief blast of scent was familiar, but this is watery and very very cheap/plastic/chemical. And after about an hour my tissue test smells like plastic and pee. (Mind you, I LOVE vintages, indolics, animalics, etc... I don't think any of my vintages smells like pee).
I'm going to try my old 1 oz vintage of TL soon and see if it turned. Otherwise, I blind bought Sirene by Vicky Tiel and it's very similar to my True Love memories.
True Love should be strong, yet airy, and very very powdery, even sharp, and ultra feminine.
DarlingNikki04/15/19 19:37
One of the greatest things about finding Fragrantica is going back in my scent memory and recalling the smells of certain perfumes that I tried way back when and just couldn't love or even like, but couldn't quite put my finger on why. True Love is just one such fragrance that I tried so hard to love, like or even tolerate, but I just couldn't and I never knew why until now--I see that it has iris, a note that I, unfortunately, can't bring myself around to. I always remember this smelled suffocatingly powdery and made me cough whenever I sprayed it, yet there was an undertone that I did like, but that powderiness--gak!
judeaqua04/09/19 03:01
I so agree with the reviewers below, especially sibaraa. This one smells like Nivea Cream totally and absolutely. I could have bought a bottle of Nivea cream or Nivea deo spray. Alas, once again, blind buy gone wrong. I went by someone's review mentioning similarity to camay soap, but was totally disappointed as it does not smell anything close to my favourite red soap.
sibaraa03/24/19 16:21
If you miss Nivea cream, drench yourself in this!
Forbiddenjade02/21/19 11:12
True Love is one of the most beautiful oriental floral ever conceived. Not by chance the nose who came up with it is a master of the perfumery art!
It opens with a vibrant fuzz of freesia, wet green notes tip toeing around with a delicately powdery iris.
About half an hour later a hint of peach and apricot takes stage, gentle, enticing fruity combo.
They are not very prominent, but the juiciness is there and one can almost taste it! And then heliothrope arrives, taking place in a rather joyous convivium! Bliss!
It does not smell of baby powder, though I can understand the similarity it can evoke.
Anyhow, True Love mellows very slowly into a white, juicy, and light woody caress: it's fresh, mouthwatering, classy. They should have named it Innocence, because of its clean, pure, suave nature.
I am pretty sure that what many perceives as "pungent" sits with freesia, a sweet fragrant flower with a slightly bitter kick. It also somewhat can be mistaken for peach, so all in all I believe that is what confuses some.
It is always good to remember than our skin PH is what affects in particular the sillage, but also longevity and general reaction of a fragrance with us. Warmth does not bode well with True Love: it likes cold, wet weathers (London, where I live!) for love adores cuddles.
And that's what this scent is, a buoyant, sweet, innocent hug!
It's love for me, the truest ever possible.
My advice to those approaching it is simple: spray some in front of you and walk into the cloud.
No point, ever ever ever, in blasting yourselves dead with a scent you have never tried before... go easy, go soft :)

This has somewhat good longevity on me if I spray a lot on me so it does last!! Don’t understand the Zero longevity posts. On my skin it won’t last long but spray on your clothing.
Ivyswirl11/10/18 11:25
This is my post bath time scent when I want to just feel cozy and clean at home. Today I'm recovering from a hangover and once I was clean and near human it's my scent of choice. It's not sexy in the slightest but oddly comforting, remind me of fluffy towels, clean sheets and pj's. String sillage and quite potent, certainly value for money.
charottan10/26/18 01:22
I love this perfume, I feel like a pretty woman who has true love when I was wearing this perfume. I already bought the 3rd bottle right now.
Alces Alces10/08/18 17:30
So many people dislike this for being a chemical smell. I don't find True Love to be that way at all. The opening is a bit of a mess, true, so that may be why people perceive it as chemicals rather than a fragrance. You have to wait for this to settle a little, and even then you may not like it.
Definitely not a provocative or sensual scent, which is appropriate because True Love has to come from a different place. Not a clubbing scent, but do you expect True Love to be there? It's the fragrance for someone lovely and shy, not flashy.
True Love has a LOT of iris and orris root, and those two don't always go well with sharp greens like LOTV and freesia. There's almost a dissonance. But somehow when this comes into focus after the first five minutes, it becomes such a comforting, womanly soft scent.
It's actually rather motherly. Motherly in that it has a kind of quiet composure and offers a sense of peace. It always reminds me of the character of Kanga in the Winnie the Pooh stories. Maybe that's a little weird. But it makes it a wonderful one to wear when you feel a little sad or under the weather. It is beautiful and soothing to me.
Phantomias10/07/18 16:07
What can I say about this blind buy? It smells like nondescript chemicals, a bit sharp and rather cheap in the dry down.
True Love isn't horrible, but it isn't anything special. I can't get a single distinctive note from this fragrance, which really is a shame. I'd love some freesia and apricots and roses, but all I get is perfumey chemicals. At least it's not long lasting or overwhelmingly powerful. True Love is nothing like it's name implies. I expected something strong, but TL is unremarkable.
Note to self: blind buys are a game of chance.
charottan09/20/18 23:35
I love the sweet smell, not too sweet and can feel about true love. Already bought 2nd bottles and still going to buy more if still have in the market. Love it a lot. ^^
Zackkcaz09/05/18 20:57
I really enjoy this perfume. One spray on my chest before bed to evoke soft and comforting memories. The mix Reminds me of flannel pjs that were in a linen closet for a season. True Love makes me feel safe and cozy.
Pez_Enelrio09/04/18 08:00
I can smell some almond here
Coco2u08/10/18 22:04
Bought this as a blind buy and UUUGGGHHH!!! Yes, if I want to smell like a man, I would wear this or Stetson.
Some thing in this scent is absolutely over powering all the beautiful flowers.
Glad I only paid $7.00 for it.
This one is too strong and masculine for me.
Will spray paint the top and bottle black and give it to my boss. LoL!
Jobob06/01/18 14:41
Ordered this on eBay after reading the reviews and I love it. I agree that it doesn't last very long so if you spray it on your clothes it will last longer. It's not a complex fragrance but that's ok. It's a soft powdery slightly vanilla and light floral. You can spray away and it will never be overpowering. Sometimes I just want to wear an understated fragrance that's soft and light. I think I'll order a backup bottle because I think it's discontinued as I don't see it on the Elizabeth Arden website.
Tasali05/13/18 11:45
Woah, soap in a bottle! Will be used as an after-shower spray and to freshen up my sheets ;p
Extremely clean scent.
Chrysolaga05/06/18 15:41
I purchased this at a very reasonable cost at T.J. Maxx I am learning that I need to run away from perfumes that others describe as powdery as that element just does not work well for me. This does seem like powder in a bottle to me. It dries down to a very pleasant floral skin scent after a short while, but the initial fragrance is unpleasant to me. Will be passing this one on.
Q8004/27/18 04:39
Very freesia & lily of the valley blend.
It begins quite splashy bright for seconds then turns to a sweet soapy floral blend full of lily, freesia, apricots, and heliotrope, jasmines, cedar, sandalwood, and roses are there but appears later.
Fair
sopke04/06/18 11:48
Pretty nice and powdery scent. Meaning that at least decent powdery parfume usually cost much more. But even being so cheap, the longevity is awfully too poor. I even tried on mother's and sister's skin, clothing, indeed still same. So poor longevity for a really good scent, sad..
NDS7903/22/18 18:20
Had this when it first came out; I was in high school and liked it for a while. Now, I don’t care for it. It’s very powdery and all I smell is that along with strong notes of rose and iris. Definitely could be a hit if you like the smell of roses or are a lover of sharp floral notes.
Bomber8103/17/18 11:08
Love love love.
Perfect after bath or shower, especially before bed.
Fresh, clean, soft and slightly powdery, with a hint of sweetness and floral.
Timeless.
Maryxcontrary03/15/18 16:53
I've gone through two bottles of this and I'm starting to miss having it in my collection
Sillage is quiet poor but being so cheap l will probably end up buying this again.
kati7703/08/18 00:46
Beautiful, but very subtle, so subtle that it is too delicate for me. I would call it first love just for a while then no love and an innocent, floral, I do not feel sweetness.
bonnieb00m03/05/18 10:41
Love this one it’s very clean chic and fresh , classic but not old school , smells like French soap and a little bit like Balmain ivoire. I put it on 4 hours ago and can still smell it now .A great blind buy for me !
PaperGhost02/27/18 06:22
Pleasant, gentle and ladylike fragrance, but very, very weak. After the first few minutes it’s basically a skin scent. I don’t think it would be possible to overspray this if you tried. Not enough projection for it to be ‘true love’.
Mona Lygre02/15/18 13:50
I had True Love, and loved it, it smells very good on my skin, and I will proably buy a new bottle as soon as possible =))
Violet_Rose02/04/18 05:53
I have a Parfum miniature of this and wasn't particularly enamoured with it. However, today I was drawn to it. Once on my wrists and allowed to settle, I loved it.
Powdery, comforting rose centred scent. It's stayed with me all day, quietly and reassuringly, while resting on a Sunday.
I shan't be giving this one up and may invest in an EDT. Classic but comforting is how I would categorise it.
Tracyarts01/20/18 03:00
Review is based on the perfume concentration.
I find True Love to be a soft, slightly powdery, fruity floral. Not so much dated as classic. Feminine and pretty. I wear it when I want to dress in pastels and feel ladylike. It makes me think of garden parties, tea houses, and Easter brunch.
Like most perfume/parfum/extraits, it's long lasting but wears very close to the skin.
Maryxcontrary12/08/17 01:39
I owned This perfume in my early 20's and I think its one of those scents that you either love or hate.
Most people complimented me on this scent, describing it as "fresh" while the rare few considered it to be an "old lady smell"
It's very sweet but not at all juvenile. It's nothing like the typical celebrity scents that smell like a shampoo or drink
This scent has a class and freshness about it.
Siv7Stars11/21/17 12:11
Many many years ago I got a miniature parfum with two rings on the cap in a sale and it was lovely, strong yet soft and sweet. Then I tried to revisit and bought the tall oblong version which no longer carries the Arden name. It was pointless and insipid with no depth. Sad.
cocolover5611/07/17 21:47
What a strange and charming fragrance... at first I absolutely despised it - so sweet! Unusual, powdery and very much like a musky baby powder. Heads for rose territory very quickly and becomes quite beautiful ... sort of.
Not so fruity, mostly floral. Unusual.
Lumoava11/03/17 12:49
I had this once but I passed it on to somebody, as I found it a little too subtle and not longlasting enough, allthough I loved the scent. Lately I've been thinking about getting a bottle again, I would like to have something as soft, rosy and powdery, which I currently don't.
FrancesAnne10/22/17 09:46
Tried this recently as I really wanted to like it because of it's price and reviews claiming it was very floral.
Decided not for me, sensed no floral notes in particular, just actually smelt quite cheap. love the frosted bottle however. Just not the feminine floral fragrance I was hoping for.
lizzyshreds10/14/17 03:24
To me this perfume is the lighter / daytime version of Anna Sui's first perfume that came out after this in 1999.
teresasanga09/21/17 21:50
Fresh and romantic, floral, tender.... ideal to take in the bag for any time of the day that you need to cheer up.
maochr09/10/17 19:12
I bought this perfume heavily discounted during an online sale, and despite the price I regret the purchase. My first spray was (accidentally!) on the sleeve of my shirt, and it smelt like hair spray. I was a bit worried at this point, because it smelt strongly of chemicals, but I sprayed again (on my skin this time).
Second spray was better, but I still can't pick up on any sandalwood or amber. The scent is very soapy/powdery and floral, like the smell of a Dove spray deodorant (as mentioned by quite a few other members). However, I've noticed that if you're spraying on clothes (I tested this a few more times) it smells exactly like hairspray. This may be worth layering with a different scent, maybe something sweeter?
florina_81bobo08/24/17 08:26
Just Nivea body Spray and Dove soap, clean and fresh! Nothing to do with a perfume...this is much more like a body lotion, a bedtime scent! Nothing really special!
__.mata08/24/17 07:16
True Love by Elizabeth Arden smells like a mother’s affection for her child, if it had a scent.Innocent and pure. Unconditional even. My nose registers mainly both soapy and powdery—childlike and feminine, respectively. Which means it’s okay to smell this on a mature woman, or a younger lass.
Gemini1208/06/17 16:44
The opening is a tiny bit sharp, but quickly dries down to a soft powdery floral scent. I can't really pick out any specific notes, but overall it's a pleasant slightly soapy, slightly powdery scent. Whenever I wear it, it has a very cozy and calming effect. Wearing True love is like wrapping myself in a soft cashmere blanket and curling up on the sofa.
felicite3407/13/17 03:54
Very powdery rose floral, like others have stated. Very cozy and comforting. If you wore a perfume to bed, (I do not) this would be a candidate. Something in it kind of reminds me of sweet honesty the avon perfume. This is quite lovely. I can see how this would be a good cold weather perfume.
supertw9410906/07/17 20:26
It's a light transparent fruity floral with a strange or rather unique drop off into soft powdery background. It's like a synthetic raspberry scent was only allowed to mix with soft flowers up to the point where it might start becoming tart but before it can, it gets yanked back and subdued. Not bad for the cheap price but feels like everything is blended together and becomes indistinct. I have the edt not sure if the Edp is better or what
Marie6903/05/17 11:44
True Love. Love Love the bottle and cap. Testing a vintage mini. To me this is peachy rose. I know this scent was very popular and to me it is a powdery floral. I would say it is a linear fragrance, decent. Dry down is quite soft and I appreciate that. This is not a nuclear juice and that is a good thing also.
keydday02/20/17 18:15
So, my eighteen year old just totally stole this from me and used it all! She says all of her friends and teachers compliment her on how wonderful she smells. This sprays out as a sharp floral bouquet but quickly morphes into a soft powder. Pretty is it's best description .
kyl7702/10/17 09:24
True Love is a nice powdery floral. When I first spray it on, there is quite a bit of sillage. My father told me I smelled like soap, and there is a clean soapy quality to True Love. The sillage evaporates pretty quickly, however, and it becomes more of a skin scent that reminds me of freshly washed baby skin. Quiet and ethereal, like true love itself.
meliecat02/09/17 14:47
It`s a great budget perfume for any occasion! I bought a bottle for my Mum and Aunt but I ended up liking it myself -Im in my 30s - and thinking to get a bottle for my collection too. It`s sparkly flowery peach on me with a hint of rose and a dash of powder, not cloying or heavy at all, very feminine and defo a 90s scent, but you stil get away with it not like a lot of the spicy or too ambery ones from those days. Ladies over 40 will defo like it though, or anyone who`s not a fan of citrusy or too heavy overpowering scents. Totally worth trying.
EDIT: I saw some users referring to the scent as `vintage soap` - if it is true, you must think of one of the luxury soaps of the best kind from your childhood, like red Camay, or something similar: it made you feel clean, smell pretty and feminine, somehow luxurious, well the scent could be moving along the lines of that, but it is more fluid than just a plain soap scent. But dusting powder? No, definitely no. But most of all it is clean, comforting, feminine and peachy-rosy.
mayyay9010/26/16 14:27
The perfume of Elizabeth Arden True love is loved in my collection of perfumes. It is very tender smell of real roses and smell of the ladies face powder .It is very warm, very elegant, very tender, very ladies (lady, who really look after herself ) perfume. That perfume would be nice to wear to the job or for everyday , nice after the bath too . The long lasting around 2 - 4 hours and the Sillage is moderate . It is very lovely , romantic and tender perfume , which you want to breath the smell all the time with closed the eyes . You can't go wrong with that perfume too
Alice'nwndrland08/22/16 11:58
I don't know why they call "Oriental Floral" fragrance if the top notes are so fruity: apricot and peach are so pungent! Then the floral part is too much sweet for me. I bought by internet hoping scents was more oriental like sandalwood, amber and cedar but you barely can perceive them. Something in this fragrance make me nauseate, sorry.
ChelleBelle8405/22/16 17:56
A real treasure in love. Peachy roses, sweet and delicious, a little bit of powder with a little bit of a woody, musky dry down. It has a lotion feel to it that's very light. Very inexpensive, but doesn't smell that way. I'm not fond of the bottle though, but for the price and the juice, so what? Perfect ordinary day perfume for romantics in spring and summer. Decent sillage for a little while, then it becomes more of a skin scent, but longevity isn't great. For the price, it's easy to freshen it up during the day. Very clean smelling like you've taken a shower using a bar of pink/rosa Dove, so I can't imagine this could bother anyone. If they are bothered, they're only looking for and trying too hard to be offended by something, in which case, you tell them you're offended that they are offended, lol
Zaleska04/15/16 10:41
Is it me or TL really smells like Red Jeans by Versace in its very opening?
I like RJ, but I wouldn't like to have two full bottles of it, haha
It's only the first 5 seconds. After it settles down, it becomes softer, slightly powdery, airy, close to skin, a safe smell. Not sharp. Not extremely flowery. Not a dated or old-lady-like perfume.
Excellent for warm days, to feel your skin perfumed without offending anyone.
Edit: oh, well...both TL and RJ were launched in 1994 and have almost the same notes...
TL whispers whereas RJ screams..
Hmmmm...my nose is still working well...
:)
mashuda03/21/16 16:18
I mainly bought this for the bottle. I know. Sad. I figured at £10 for such a huge bottle, I couldn't go wrong. For some reason I really like the design of the bottle and it feels good to hold and spray. The smell isn't earth shattering but it's a nice safe smell. Straight up Johnson and Johnson baby lotion or baby wipes smelling. I really like it. Reminds me of the baby days of my not so little ones now. I wear it around the house and my hubby always asks if I've just come out of the shower.... :)
Ferminadaza02/16/16 14:11
I've been picking up little classic cheap but goodies since being inspired by the bargain frag series. I've also picked up a few good guys...but I've been pleasantly surprised by many of the cheapies that I've purchased as well. That being said, I picked up a 3.4 EDT of True Love from a local TJ Maxx. Priced at $10, I figured I couldn't go too horribly wrong...and I didn't.
True Love is certainly far from the worst, but it's not the best either. It is a very, very, very, very, very, very---did I say very? Very soft skin scent.
Honestly I intend to use it as a body spray akin to something from Bath & Body Works or VS. Something to splash on during the height of the summer when I've gotten tired of the usual citrus summer splashes. The prices and the softness of the frag allows one to spray with abandon without the fear of causing the equivalent of olfactory napalm for others. You can't even pick up a BBW spray for less unless there's a sale going! The smell is high end just light--- It's more musk, heliotrope, and aquatics than rose in my opinion---very soft and sweet, but not cloying. As I said, I plan to wear it on hot days like a body spray. It would however also be great for young girls as a first perfume because the smell is "pretty" and though young people often tend to spray too much, you really can't with this one.
Don't knock it, if you can find the big bottle for $10 or less, snap it up. In one's fragrance wardrobe, it is the equivalent of a basic white tank during the summer----nothing flashy, but still a necessary element.
LillyGill11/29/15 21:18
One more thing. I forgot to mention that the heliotrope note which unfolds within the powdery floral notes in the heart of this beautiful bouquet is AMAZING. I am thankful for my generous 3.3 oz EDT that I scooped up at a TJ Maxx for $9.99, because I will keep this as a permanent part of my fragrance wardrobe once again! I don't understand why it's so low in cost compared to 20 years ago, but I am thrilled that I found it for a steal!
This one would be appropriate for teens on to very mature ladies. I would call it more romantic than sophisticated and businesslike, so I won't wear it with a power suit or board meeting.
LillyGill11/29/15 21:03
Oh, what a stroll down memory lane for me when I discovered this at a superb price yesterday! I first wore this as a young bride and then a mother of one, and then two, 19-16 years ago. Back then, I could only afford the smallest EDT spray from the department store at the mall, and that I had scrimped and saved for. As a dedicated fan of lily of the valley, I loved Jessica McClintock for the LOTV notes. I was skeptical that True Love's pink juice could really have more than roses to offer, but OH, was I shocked then, and am pleasanty remembering the LOTV in it now. WHERE has this been for the last 16 years that I've lived without True Love (the perfume, I mean)?
The first blast is like a powdered sugar covered rose from our wedding cake. Real roses, sweet sugar, softness and beauty. Then the lovely note of LOTV emerges, wrapped in a jasmine and vanilla note, with just the slightest touch of juicy, sweet, ripe tree fruits to round this out. I feel like True Love rides the fine line between chypre and gourmand so beautifully!
I don't understand the "synthetic" references in other reviews. The scent notes and layers do not seem synthetic or "cheap" at all to me, though I am very picky to notice this usually. Perhaps my formulation is somehow different? If there ever was a fragrance that could take Dior's Diorissimo, which is my signature fragrance, and dip the LOTV sprigs in sweet sugared honey, removing all bitterness, and adding to the bouquet fruity, vanilla misted, shy pink tea roses, with a gorgeous powdery base, you've found True Love. Jessica McClintock, which is what I wore on my wedding day, has a bitter, sharp note with the LOTV. This is sweet LOTV, soft, powdery, ladylike LOTV. If you love Diorissimo, don't miss this bargain for those days when you are feeling like trying something different!
Also, those who liked the idea of, or loved an old version of, Anais Anais by Cacharel as I did in high school before it turned "funny" on my skin/changed formulation, run, don't walk, and buy a bottle of True Love today. I would have thrown my Anais Anais in the trash back in 1987-1990 when I wore it if I had True Love as a richer, more refined, gorgeous cousin!
Mizurin11/27/15 03:20
I bought this almost 20 years ago at the airport. I thought at that time it was nice & beautiful, but when I got into elevator wearing this, my colague told me that I was smelling like old lady. I was so shocked & since then I haven't wore it. I don't really remember the scent, but do the bad memory...
odie11/07/15 17:11
A sweet "nice" clean scent - like Ponds face cream! Its' reasonably priced in my country but certainly not a "I gotta buy this perfume" I think its because I am a woman in my thirties and this fragrances screams too young to me. Just perfect for my sweet little sister - and she is more interested in Britney Spears "Curious." It's cute and fresh, just a good frag akin to Coty's "Vanilla Fields" you know, every girl wears these at some point. Wish that rose could bang more in my nostrils with some musk or pink pepper. But what am I saying, if it has that it would be a different perfume. Good for the office, school or when you are around small children who don't need to smell strong scents. A good spring day scent!
HopeFloats7210/27/15 17:22
Normally, a Grojsman nose behind a frag is a definite winner for me. Not so with this one.
I only have this in my collection because it was listed here as an Oriental Floral. It was $6.00 USD at a retailer I frequent and I read the notes and thought, "Wow, that sounds good."
It isn't.
This smells like baby powder. Maybe high-end boutique baby powder, but there is something in this that reminds me of calamine lotion and camphor-almost medicinal. Maybe diaper cream? That's what it brings to mind when I wear it (which I rarely do because who wants to smell like diaper cream?)
On my skin, which I classify as 'warm' (meaning that most fragrances radiate well from my skin and tend to hang around and develop through their layers nicely) True Love just sits. It's not heavy but it just sits there, annoying and cloying and stifling. It's not warm or cozy. There are no roses or jasmine. The amber (which my skin LOVES) doesn't ever come forward. I just have POWDER to the nth degree.
The next time you're changing a diaper and you open that brand new clean diaper up to put on the baby, notice the scent. That's what True Love is on me...and that should explain why I consider this one of the few "stinkers" in my extensive collection.
imochy09/14/15 01:34
Such a cute, powdery perfume!
Light, happy, airy, and innocent scent to sniff, to be honest.
It starts with soft fruity (and a bit creamy too) scent before it blooms to a powdery bouquet that is really pleasing to wear. So easy to like, this perfume is :)
Wore this on a first date in the park and it worked like a charm. True Love is something that you would like to wear to leave that "innocent", "cute" impression.
True Love has moderate sillage and lasts considerably for about 5 hours outdoor (both skin and fabric) before you have to re-apply.
fyrewoman06/29/15 06:24
Yes,it has made me itch too each time i've given this a try.
There was some type of sample that broke in my suitcase during a trip and made everything smell amazing. I had several and tried to piece up the broken pieces and all i could come up was this as a possibility with what letters i could gather. Well,True Love was not it.
Its very soapy, powdery and musky. Something in it that i don't like that reminds me of other peoples old sweat in the gym locker room. Whatever that note is i find in Halloween Fever which is a like for me. Really trying to figure that out.
I never got any pleasant rose scent as the powder was too much for me to detect anything else. The apricot top note was the only thing i thought was descent. Gave this away as soon as possible.
Pema_Tsolmo05/13/15 03:09
Smell is nice, soft and seems to be unoffending. At the same time it starts iching if sprayed straight on the skin. I like it, but for me it is allergic.
hippiechick1304/13/15 22:04
This is a delicate, light fragrance. It has a soapy, very clean feeling to it that borders on fresh without actually entering it. I personally quite like clean, gentle scents that suggest a cool breeze, a nice permanent 'spring' feeling (no matter the season) and a sweetness, without it being too much.
This smell is evocative to me, as it takes me back to a few years ago when I was spending time with a much older man who had a colourful history shall we say, but with whom I shared a rare and meaningful friendship that I still look back on fondly and can fall back into with a smile. It didn't last forever because of circumstances, but it's memory can live in my heart... funny, that the name of this fragrance is what it is, that which I wore during those rainy autumn days and nights, making out for hours and hours or drinking beers on the stoop at 2am watching the rain as it spoke in a thousand voices. Him all leather, danger and smoke, and me... pale skin, innocence and True Love.
Emmayunee03/30/15 18:54
It must be me..everyone got floral notes from True love and all I'm getting are very ripe pears. SWEET AND JUICY slightly spiced pears thats been pouched and honeyed. No floral whats so ever. Its a yummy scent its just threw me off thats all. I was looking for soft romantic florals. Will stash this in my gourmand section.
Corinne3902/12/15 04:04
Have a real soft-spot for this EA.. I know it's cheap (or should I say "inexpensive"..) but it smells like it costs much more..and like marshmallow roses (if you get what I mean)..Pretty & lovely
debush02/02/15 18:54
Cheap, very boring scent, i use for room freshener...
Fragaria01/24/15 05:39
Very fitting name and scent for a wedding. The package is simple, and I like it but it isn't enough to draw longing crowds in...which also is just fine with me. I'll be wearing this quite a bit. This is a familiar smell to me, as if it were worn around me more than just a couple times during SOME period in my life. When I pulled the bottle out of the package, first thought was "What a PLAIN bottle...cheap" and then I studied it a few moments and thought "This doesn't NEED anything more, it's simple and elegant".
I have no gripes about this in any way.
I feel you can wear this any season but might want to go easy when spraying during the hottest of days. Still, I'm not sure about that even. I'll have to try this during mid summer. I think it's the iris that makes me love this in the crispy air. I do love Infusion d'Iris! Which is what made me even THINK I might like this, along with the peach...since I love Fancy Love also.
I actually CAN smell the peach, which I normally can't. I can sniff out a good iris also. Iris first, then peach....are all I smell with this scent, even though I know there's more to it then that.
This is a hairspray, bubble bath, shampoo type of smell. So this is clean and what I think, soapy. If clean and soapy isn't your thing, you need to test first.
If I were to put like scents on a shelf, I would put this along side of White Linen, Fancy Love, Infusion d'Iris, Eternity etc.
I actually like Fancy Love more, but that's just me. I can see where just as many will love this more.
I'm so glad to have found this. I love learning about, and then finding a true classic, which this IS.
luceluca01/22/15 00:58
'True Love' might not be very suitable for this perfume since I think the fitting one would be 'innocent love'. It is truly in my opinion a soft, feminine, lovely scent. The opening notes aren't really interesting. But when the middle notes appear, you could smell the rose and powdery scent linger for quite awhile. It's refreshing, especially with the hint of fruity notes. The dry down is warm, nice, and stays close to the skin. I basically love the base notes for I think it's even better than the middle ones and might be what resembles a bit of 'true love'. Perhaps everyone from any age could wear this without being offensive at all. Perfect for daily use, especially for sunny, warm days. But if you're looking for something to make a statement, skip this one. Like I said, it possess that 'innocent' feel. When you smell it, you could picture young girls in pretty floral dresses walking under sun with slightly wet hair and wide, pretty smile.
Overall, it's worth the price. Though I don't think there will be a second bottle for me.
KJS8811/22/14 23:46
True Love is one of those perfectly competant, nice, quality smelling cheapies that you don't always smell on others, yet you just "know it from someone or somewhere." Powdery, sweet, rosy, but never really harsh or in your face, but not necessarily natural smelling either.
It is often said that just for the body's natural processes, life as a woman is a lot harder than life as man. I wouldn't disagree, but here's something women have over men: you can go out and buy very decent perfumes and clothes that do not break the bank and you still look and smell a million bucks in the eyes of us men, and this perfume is the perfect example of that.

Oriental florals are most of my favorite fragrances and this I wore for close to ten years. I LOVE it. It’s a perfect balance of floral and spice. This comes off on some people powdery I noticed but it has not done this on my own chemistry.
Top notes to this are apricot, green notes, freesia, and peaches. These top notes typically don’t show up on me in any fragrance much and this was no exception. Middle notes are iris, orris root, jasmine, heliotrope, lily-of-the-valley, and rose. The rose and heliotrope are what I notice the most on me. I also notice the orris some but it’s not intense. Base notes are sandalwood, amber, vanilla, and cedar. I smell the woodsy notes as it dries down and I am in heaven with the rose and wood scent left.
alyunie09/28/14 03:19
Oddly on me I smell strongly of cold pears and roses, the rose is more of a weak shadow. It remains this way from start to finish. Lasting 5hrs. projection is moderate. Its very fruity and fresh. To me its more of a Bath and Body shower mist scent....you know those fruity ones.. or even Victoria's secret pear body mist. Just rounder... less alcohol
Bublegum09/20/14 09:50
In the begining I was like: wow, what a great perfume. I could immediately smell of roses. Unfortunately, after a while I still could smell roses but plastic ones. Comparing it to Tommy Girl (Cologne) the roses are plastic and not fresh. (I mean the way you perceive them). For me the whole 3 hours that this perfume lasted I could only smell of these plastic flowers, so in the end I got kind of bored. I had to smell so much roses from the old English Rose time. But at least the smell wasn't bad. It is a nice perfume for a spring morning, maybe for a picnic. Nothing fancy though. But if you are a rose lover I guess you will love this one. Unfortunately on me, the perfume stayed kind of flat, so I didn't have the chance to smell the powder and the old lipstick.
SillySue08/11/14 16:33
A powdery sensation!
I love the smell of old school lipstick, powder-puffs and makeup bags and have been looking for a fragrance that can capture this, wanting it to be somewhat retro without overdoing it. I have a sample of FM Lipstick Rose, which has been my holy grail of makeup scented perfume but have been searching for a budget alternative. I tried the Ombre Rose after seeing it was being compared to the Lipstick Rose but sadly that one failed miserably on my skin so I ended up swapping it.
Enter True Love. It is indeed just that. A True Love....of mine at least ;) It is the perfect powdery, slightly vintage, pink, fluffy, lipsticky fragrance.
I think I've found excatly what I was looking for. A true modern classic.
yvankraft07/23/14 19:02
This is an American perfume that smells like a sophisticated and classic French perfume. For me it is floral aldehydic. More: it's a very successful attempt to be a modern Chanel Nr 5. Very well done. Warm and romantic. I don't understand the negative comments about this jewel.
Blue wolf07/19/14 18:43
I just came in from gardening in the hot Cali sun and decided to treat myself with my latest very cheap thrill from TJMaxx. I understand nil3's complaint of stinging, as my left arm was scratched up from grass and stung upon first application of True Love. This passed, and I inhaled after a minute and was immersed in a rich delectable floral cloud.
I have very eclectic tastes in fragrance; I enjoyed the 80's and many of the classic fragrances others perceive as too strong. But I love indulging my relaxed side, and this very pretty scent is just the ticket. The top notes are dense and well blended, with the rose and peach dominating and the lotv rising to the top as the highest and sweetest note; then in decreasing waves as the top notes wane. Heliotrope seems to be detectable throughout, but then I am very sensitive to that note as too much makes me gag.
I get no soapiness, which is something I dislike in a fragrance. This is an EDT, and fairly strong since it's lasting well on my skin, 2-3 hours tops. The middle notes are more delicate with the ethereal quality I always associate with Iris. I used to make my own potpourri, and I remember well the smell of orris root and I'm glad it's not heavy here. The tart apricot is blended so that I barely can pick it out;
I get no vanilla at all.
The jasmine is thankfully just part of the base. It's one of my least favorite floral notes as I feel it's overused by perfumers to cover a botched fragrance. By the time I get to the base notes, this is definitely just a skin scent. This is a good one to wear around people as I think it is a "kind' fragrance; just my impression. Though I disagree that it smells like Loves Baby Soft, I agree that it is delicate and reminiscent of babies and innocence. For such a cheap fragrance at 12.99 for 3.3.oz, IMHO I think this is one heck of a bargain and definitely a keeper.
Englishrose407/07/14 07:05
To SzekelyEmoke, the bottle nozzle is a little cheap looking / feeling but once the lid is on it looks quite understated.
I don't know where you are but in the uk you can get 100ml for £10 and it looks exactley like the one at the top of this page, so I guess the compromise is with the bottle because the scent smells more expensive to me.
I don't get alcohol burn either, sorry that you did Nil3.
XX
Nil307/07/14 06:56
I had to exchange this one because it literally burned on my skin. Nothing else to add.
SzekelyEmoke07/07/14 06:05
I'm thinking of buying this or not...I like the reviews, but the bottle looks cheap, just like the Green Tea line. The bottle in the first picture it is lovely, wish they sold it in that one!
Englishrose407/05/14 06:22
This smells a lot more expensive then it is very feminine and pretty without being overbearing or cloying, but it doesn't last that well.
I don't get the old fashioned comments at all, I'm 30 and dislike the old lady powder smell, there is nothing old and dusty here just understated class.
I keep myself stocked for those situations when you need a perfume you don't have to think about, I can reach for this without worrying if it's fitting for the occasion.
Also agree with AbbeyRd68, I also use it as a bedtime scent!
I get light roses, supported by lilys and apricots with a lovely dry down of sandalwood which reminds me of babies for some reason, gorgeous!
Coffee King05/18/14 04:08
I struggle to see how anyone can knock this, gorgeous, light, powdery floral scent. Projects very well and lasts better then many higher priced fragrances. I bought it as I live most of Arden's products, they make quality which is well priced. This is an inexpensive treaties
ginadantas04/23/14 23:12
I bought a bottle, excellent price. It arrived home today. Roses, peach and apricot are the intense notes on my skin, specially roses. I would say fresh white roses, as if their petals were macerated under your nose . Romantic fragrance. Lovely. I can also smell Lilly of Valley and that´s all. All the remaining notes mentioned at the pyramid do not exist in my opinium.
Sherihan02/27/14 05:40
I have a perfume that reminds me of this, it's Diamonds and Rubies
Planet_X02/27/14 03:52
Now that is what you call “innocence”
As vintage as it could be bottle design and the most dry quality iris-powder. Rose-powder, apricot-powder, sandal-powder and cedar-powder. Such a womanity in this fragrance – these flacons belong to the special time when grandmothers are telling to granddaughters the story of their first love
When I smelled it for first time..the picture from the movie “The Notebook” came to my mind. And young bright laughing Rachel McAdams jumping among waves in the sea shouting to her Noah: “I Am a Bird!!!! I Am a bird!! Tell me that I Am a bird!”
First love it is.
If you can not sleep – it will wrap you tenderly and make you dreamy and sleepy, if you forgot how naïve and pure you was – it will remind you, if you feel dirty and tired – it will purify you.
Another side of Sophia Grojsman to me...
ginaerdahl02/20/14 16:35
EXTREMELY delicate fragrance. Makes me think of a freshly bathed baby's smell. Perfect for a bedtime scent. Would be a perfect perfume for someone who likes very quiet unassuming scents, and loves (not likes) the smell of baby powder. I am surprised at how little rose I smell since that is what other reviewers list as the most predominant note. This is all fresh powder for me. No alcohol stink. Very well blended. Makes me think of shabby chic decor, white linens, long flowing dresses, pastel colors, bunnies. I am cracking myself while I write this, but its true! Really evokes a feeling of spring, Easter time....baby ducks. Haha!
I really like this. I find it beautiful and soft. I can see how this could very easily be an every day scent, but can also see how some would think this is too boring to bother with. Clean, fresh, green, powder. Don't have high hopes for longevity on this one though. Edit~ Just as I thought. Maybe 30 minutes on my skin, a couple hours on my clothes.
the_new_esta02/09/14 21:32
I actually thought this was by Revlon. By all means, DO NOT SPRAY MUCH! It's a strong powdery fragrance that takes me back to the 90's. You could definitely offend people by putting too much of this on - but it's so popular, even with a little bit everyone's going to know you're wearing a $12 perfume.
samsara8212/27/13 14:02
Dear Readers ,
I agree with Kaejuntun's interpretation of this lovely fragrance of True Love for I too have imagine and felt the same things when I have tried this perfume so I wont repeat what Kaejuntun's words in any shape, but I will leave half of my review.
I'm going by my own collective memories of this perfume when it came out in the 90's , since I been sniffing and reading that there's been a wave of reformulations ,so im going by my past with True Love.
I remember trying this and it 's a beautiful perfume and a good buy for rose lovers since the rose scent is very dominant and from Fragrantica's ingredient information on the notes that went in to this fragrance I can see how they will compliment and bring about its rose spirit more adding to it sweeter notes for more power.
I enjoyed it a lot on my skin since I enjoy roses and grow my own roses , but I never bought it since then and now its very popular which makes it hard for me to obtain it but maybe someday I will find 1 last bottle and have it for me because it is a lovely spirit to have around and a good buy and gift for those who appreciate roses and who enjoy the beauty of the serene feminine .
suhaesa12/22/13 02:09
a bright.. clean.. light ..floral.. powdery.. connotation of happy.. sophisticated(almost)..elegant..crisp..dry..white..astringent..alcoholic..soapy..fresh..and true..
fit for morning use...a lady like perfume.. without being very sexy ..but subtly feminine..i imagine a new mommy ..using it after giving birth..a nurse using it.. for its not so offensive to patients...(hopefully)..
the floral part is subtle..powdery..light white musky...
a safe blind buy.. although i would never blind buy any perfume impo..a safe everyday perfume..that just gives you the right amount of freshness.. confidence.. and a light trail of sensualness.. in an innocent.. ..clean way...everyone around will definitely be happy smelling this ..awaroa of bright.. lite.. light..it has a halo of the lightest most subtle florals...rosy...but not the deep velvety rose..here its a bright.. crisp.. almost there rose ..not so in your face.. but just enough to make it happy.. and sing melodies of true love...
an early morning.. dewy.. beginning for a day ..any day ..even for a walk at the beach.. or to jog in.. or simply after a shower ..to just stay home in ..or go to work in ..so its really versatile..a perfect gift for mothers day..not too special as a unique perfume though.. but surely special as an everyday perfume ..a perfume that everyone around you will appreciate without a doubt...its an uplifting perfume..that intitally makes you go ahhhh!
kaejuntun11/20/13 06:35
I have to say, even after reading all of the reviews, I did not expect True Love to smell like it does.
This fragrance brings to mind a young woman, perhaps newly married, idealistic, maybe a bit naive. This isn't a special occasion perfume and is best suited for the day to day. Rather than, say, being suited for a wedding (one of the grandest expressions of love), True Love emulates the mother snuggling her young children, reading a book before bed; it is the smell her partner recognizes as hers without really knowing the name; it is the essence that trails around the house as she goes about her business. It is the scent that she will wear for the rest of her life.
I guess what I am getting at is that True Love brings to mind all things that are traditional - this isn't an "I am woman, hear me roar" kind of fragrance. That's not to say that the woman that wears True Love is a wallflower, or oppressed. She is content with the life she has chosen, she is happy and sweet, ever the optimist. She knows who she is, and even as she settles into the familiar day to day routine, she never forgets it. This is an ageless perfume, appropriate for any age.
True Love is a classic sort of smell, one that is timeless and ageless - I suppose, it is everything that one would hope True Love would be.
njyogachick11/12/13 07:22
I thought True Love smelled awfully similar to Lagerfeld's Sun Moon Stars* (SMS). Turns out, the Sophia Grojsman is the nose behind the two scents.
True Love is nowhere as polarizing as SMS. The opening notes of peach & vanilla are quite nice and the dry-down to heliotrope/vanilla is a little too soft for my taste. This is a good fragrance for those who like their scents sweet & subtle. Nothing special, but not bad.
*I also reviewed SMS a few years ago.
SorceressOfTheDark10/20/13 21:14
True Love...what a poetic name for a perfume. I'm such a cynic. I'll roll my eyes admitting I wear this simply because of the name. But I always say we don't wear the label or the name, we wear the fragrance. I can't let it influence me.
True Love is a powdery floral reminiscent of roses that are sweet and would not offend a baby. It's gentle, clean with a woodsy hint of spices, with a hint of vanilla, similar to Love's Baby Soft. It's sillage is soft and it lasts as long as I want it to. In other words, a few sprays will last a few hours. It's not earth-shattering or ground-breaking, but not all fragrances need to be. At times, softness and quietness is needed.
At times, I need a scent so quiet, unassuming and soft that only I know it's there.
There could be many reasons. One could be under the weather, one could be visiting someone who cannot experience strong scents, or if you are going to be in a tight area, this is a good choice.
True Love also reminds me of babies, in a good way. It's a good choice to wear around very little ones if need be. This just fits the bill for a perfume lover that always wants to wear something but at times is limited in their choices.
I love perfume and always have. My daughter, on the other hand, wears two and owns only those two. (How could I have raised this anomaly?) When I visit her, she sniffs me and makes her usual pronouncement. "What is that you're wearing today?" And I tell her, and she harrumphs.
As a matter of fact, I'm going to be a grandmother soon, and I've been told I cannot wear my perfumes around my grandbaby. (Sad, but true.) I've told her that I've already got that covered. She looked at me and asked how that could be possible. With a smile, I told her she'll find out when the time comes.
I knew without a doubt I would never go perfume-less. (The horrors!) And I know she will swoop in and smell me to check. (Like a hawk.) And when that day arrives, I'll either be wearing True Love or Love's Baby Soft, because both remind me of a baby's fresh skin, the delicate aroma of a freshly powdered infant, which will be my first grandchild. And that will sincerely be True Love for me. Seeing and holding my first grandbaby.

Very weak...
ebishop2409/21/13 15:55
Nicer than I expected!
I bought this some time ago, as it was at a very discounted price, and worth taking a risk on.
I'm not usually a fan of soft powdery floral fragrances, and to be honest ended up using it more as a room and linen scent, but it truly is as described.
Very inoffensive and suitable for younger audiences as well, just not my personal taste.
Turtledove09/10/13 10:41
This is surprisingly nice, I was expecting sweet overload with rose and peach, but I mainly get a soft, sweetly green lily-of-the-valley, a lot like an older version of Diorissimo actually. The kind with the really nice lily of the valley that has some depth and almost a honeyed feeling to it, not the screechy floor-cleaner kind that seems to be more popular recently.
Overall it's very delicate, mainly a soft floral with a little bit of a powder/lotion quality and a hint of rose. It feels a little too prim and dainty for me to actually wear, it feels like something you'd wear to a garden party on Downton Abbey, but I'm sure it would be great for someone, it is really pretty and gentle.
abbeyroad6809/09/13 22:55
This is my bedtime scent as it refreshes my bedding in the most delightful way. I wear it after bathing and before going to bed. It's got the right notes for relaxing with my "True Love". :)
michelle.p.stpierre09/04/13 20:57
It goes to show you the difference body chemistry can make. I tried some of this at a friend's house. On her, it melts right in with her skin and is an amazing peachy rosy scent. On me, it smells (and feels) like candle wax. I'm not certain which note or combination of notes caused this, but it just didn't work for me. So, I'll just admire it from afar.
Aeris08/10/13 11:04
I like this, but am not "in love" with it. According to the notes and marketing angle, this had potential to become a signature fragrance for me. That and the fact that it is said to resemble my beloved Chloe Love perfume. I LOVE romantic perfumes. But alas, "True Love" has a slight artificial, chemically smell I just can't overlook. I just wish this could be remade with higher quality ingredients. It's not bad though, and it was only $7 for an ounce at Marshalls, so no regrets buying it.
Update: I ended up throwing it out. With so many great perfumes in my rotation, I can live with the $7 loss of this one.
nessmcgregor08/04/13 00:41
My first love bought me this perfume for Christmas afew years back. He didn't buy it for the smell.. He thought the name was appropriate for our relationship (Cheesy, yes).
I haven't worn it since we split, as I just don't have the heart yet.. However, not much of a loss, as the smell didn't really do it for me... When I excitedly sprayed it for the first time, I immediately lost the enthusiasm I get with a new fragrance. Had to put on my most impressive fake smile & act as though I adored it. What can I say, it's too powdery. Very plain. Not one I went out of my way to use. Better suited for a shy woman back in the 60's.
mignonnie08/03/13 20:31
Wow... different as I know... for I always know what I get, for I get what I want, although it is not what I know, for it was a blind buy, according to others, who think a blind buy is that I do others suggestions follow as may suit me, for I think it always suits me what I buy, although others think that I am picky, where I am picky BEFORE I buy, not when I buy, for I love what I buy, for it IS...
What's the scent like?... Powdery, balmy, creamy... do I get a hint of chocolate on my skin?... No, wait! It is marzipan! Amazing... Mmm... soft, friendly, lovely... like!
Sillage is not what I am interested in when wearing a perfume, although to others it matters for they want to impress others, where I want to impress myself for I am ME!
Longevity... well, I can still smell it after nearly 4 hours, which is now... mmm, yummie, what a smell... sweet, comforting, like I am cuddled by a soft blanket that surrounds me, like a hug from my boyfriend... like: true love! Indeed!
And much more affordable than Love Chloe, indeed. It may resemble L'eau en Blanc from Lolita Lempicka also. Although I think that every flavour has its own scent, may love you all as it IS.
UPDATE: I wore it for hours, like others think, where I think it lingers 12 hours at a stretch without notice what others think should, for I wear it myself, as others think should, for I spray my armpits, where it stays warm, and develops the scent that I smell all day: me, where others think it's perfume where it's mixed with other ingredients you all know well, so that a perfume is a signature, although it's not my signature perfume!
P.S. There's no need to use deodorant when you spray armpits with perfume, for the preservatives prevent bacteria growth, so that you smell well all day. Superb! Not cheap, I admit, but effective and well worth sniffing!
love4506/28/13 16:46
This is soapy, and soft! It is a clean rosy scent and really romantic. The silage and longevity are both average! My boss brought it in to work because I told her how much I love perfumes! She decided to keep it at work whenever I need it lol. But I am going to get one for myself soon! Definitely worth a try!
pipergirl06/06/13 11:09
I approach rose scents rather timidly (I've had rose scented fragrances turn on my skin in the past) but oh this one is pretty - a clean, light, lotion-y rose. Not too strong. A little bit powdery but not too powdery...just gentle and romantic, nice and wearable. I like it, only wish it lasted a little longer. But for this price, I'll respray without regret.
I adore it
Reddresspress01/07/22 13:00
So happy I waited for this to work it’s magic before scrubbing it off. Opening is a brutal chlorine like odour & it took a while to turn into something amazing.
This fragrance, if you can get through the opening, is pure comfort. So clean. Not a just out of the shower clean though; not fresh & sporty. This one’s a just out of the bath, slathered in skin cream & bath powder and cuddling up in a soft robe for a night-in clean.
Was worth the wait to get beyond what was a pretty rank opening.
Petrab8306/27/22 19:34
I'm not sure why the negativity but this lasts on me. It's a clean scent, mixed with feminine florals. It smells beautiful and is appropriate for the office.
ssamhita01/10/22 18:38
Tasali05/13/18 11:45
Woah, soap in a bottle! Will be used as an after-shower spray and to freshen up my sheets ;p
Extremely clean scent.
felicite3407/13/17 03:54
Very powdery rose floral, like others have stated. Very cozy and comforting. If you wore a perfume to bed, (I do not) this would be a candidate. Something in it kind of reminds me of sweet honesty the avon perfume. This is quite lovely. I can see how this would be a good cold weather perfume.
Saintkitty09/05/11 09:36
Oldschool powdery scent. Feels like peaches in champagne to my nose. Pretty, but staying power is poor. Not the best by Sophia Grojsman!
But I like it. True Love is good for everyday use.
