Nominated by Lyndon B. Johnson on June 28, 1966, to a new seat authorized by 80 Stat. 75. Confirmed by the Senate on July 22, 1966, and received commission on July 22, 1966. Served as chief judge, 1979-1988. Assumed senior status on April 1, 1988. Service terminated on June 1, 1992, due to retirement.
