Nominated by Harry S Truman on May 15, 1947, to a seat vacated by Samuel Mandelbaum. Confirmed by the Senate on June 18, 1947, and received commission on June 20, 1947. Service terminated on June 22, 1951, due to appointment to another judicial position.

Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit
Nominated by Harry S Truman on June 11, 1951, to a seat vacated by Learned Hand. Confirmed by the Senate on June 21, 1951, and received commission on June 23, 1951. Assumed senior status on March 1, 1958. Service terminated on February 22, 1980, due to retirement.
