Nominated by John F. Kennedy on June 23, 1962, to a seat vacated by Henry N. Graven. Confirmed by the Senate on July 13, 1962, and received commission on July 16, 1962. Served as chief judge, 1962-1985. Assumed senior status on February 9, 1985. Service terminated on March 20, 2017, due to death.
