Nominated by Lyndon B. Johnson on August 16, 1966, to a new seat authorized by 80 Stat. 75. Confirmed by the Senate on August 25, 1966, and received commission on August 25, 1966. Served as chief judge, 1969-1972. Service terminated on January 9, 1972, due to death.
