Composer. He was a two-time Academy Award winner who was primarily known for composing film scores. In all, he earned 10 Oscar nominations for such films as: 'Aliens' (1986), 'Field of Dreams' (1989), 'Braveheart' (1995), 'A Beautiful Mind' (2001), 'House of Sand and Fog' (2003) and 'Avatar' (2009). His two Oscar wins came in 1997; one for Best Original Score and the other for Best Original Song, 'My Heart Will Go On', from that year's Best Picture winner, 'Titanic'. Horner, whose father was two-time Oscar-winning art director and set designer Harry Horner, spent his formative years attending the Royal College of Music in London, then returned to L.A. and earned his bachelor's degree in music at the University of Southern California (USC) and did post-graduate work at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He went on to score such films as: 'The Lady in Red' (1979), 'The Pursuit of D.B. Cooper' (1981), 'Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan' (1982), '48 Hrs.'
