Ancient Genomes and Contemporary Health (Hugo Zeberg)
We in the research group Ancient Genomes and Contemporary Health aim to use the wealth of data from ancient genomes to better understand human health and disease. We are generally interested in genetic variability and the functional consequences thereof. Our studies focus on genetic variants that emerged in now-extinct human groups such as Neandertals, as well as on those that arose among modern humans. We employ both bioinformatics approaches and functional analyses. Although we explore all aspects of human physiology, we focus particularly on metabolism, susceptibility to infectious diseases, morphology, and cognition.
