In 2016 Euroleague changed to a league format, with sixteen teams playing each other in a home-and-away round-robin competition. Regular season groups were abolished, as well as the Top 16 group stage.

CSKA beats Fener 101-96 after an overtime and can celebrate 2016 Euroleague title-May 15, 2016
CSKA Moscow won the 2016 Euroleague title, beating 101-96 in an amazing final game theFenerbahce Ulker Istanbul. The men of coach Itoudis started really good the game, closing the first half with 20 points of advantage. In the last quarter the Turkish completed an amazing combeback from -16, reaching the overtime and missing the winner shot. CSKA won the game in the extra-time, with the points of Teodosic (19) and the Final MVPNando De Colo (196-SG-87) (21). Too many error from the free throw line for the men of coach Obradovic, not enough the effort at offensive rebound and 5 men in double digit. CSKA can celebrate the title number 7, after the last victory in 2008, under the eyes of 12250 fans at Mercedes-Benz Arena of Berlin.

The first points of the Final are for De Colo, Kalinic and Hines. Datome scores with the foul, Higgins answers by 3 but Bogdanovic finds two points, after the offensive rebound, for the 8-7 Fener after 3 minutes. Thanks to the great start of the Italian forward the Turkish team is on +4, but with a personal partial of 5-0 it's Vorontsevich to give to his team the first advantage of the game. Teodosic is ready from the bench with the 3-points shot, Vesely and Datome find the tie but Higgins scores again from the distance for the 20-15 CSKA. Hickman completes the 2+1 play, Udoh blocks but the first quarter ends 22-20 with the basket of Khryapa. Moscow tries to increase the gap starting the second quarter, but with Dixon and the free throws the men of Obradovic are again ahed 27-26, before the basket of the regular season MVP and the dunks of Vorontsevich and Kurbanov, forcing the Turkish timeout. Teodisc scores by 3 for the 35-29, CSKA loses an important possession but it's always in control, thanks to the points from the corner of De Colo (40-30 at 17'). With an amazing defense and the great offensive work CSKA reaches the 20-points lead, closing 50-30 the first half with a 13-0 open partial.
Fener tries the reaction with Vesely, but Hines answers with the basket and the additional free throw. Vorontsevich sets the block on the Czech center, CSKA loses three consecutive balls and Istanbul back on -17, despite the errors of Vesely from the free throws line (1/10). Sloukas scores two times in penetration, Antic tries to help his team but CSKA keeps away the opponents with the couple De Colo-Teodosic (65-48 with 90 seconds to play). The baskets of Jackson and Dixon close the third period, 69-53 for the Russian. Udoh opens the last quarter of the season with the dunk in tap-in, correcting his error. Khryapa is perfect from the corner, the Nigerian center dunks again thanks to the assist by Datome and with Antic the Turkish team is away 'only' 12 points. Dixon with the steal, Vorontsevich with block and Udoh with the basket for the 74-64 at 34'. The Russian forward commits his fifth foul on Datome (2/2) but it's Khryapa to find the 3-pointers for the new +11. The Italian player answers with the same coin, Antic is perfect from the free throw line and is 77-71 with 5 minutes left. Udoh dunk after the basket of Hines, Dixon it's magic with the offensive rebound and the 3-pointers for the -3, turning on the many Fenerbahce fans in Berlin. CSKA grabs an important offensive rebound but loses the ball, Kalinic makes the same across but De Colo miss his shot cause the great defense of Udoh. Dixon in penetration scores for the 78-79, Teodosic finds De Colo with a perfect assist, and CSKA is now on +3 with 50 seconds to play and timeout on the court. Dixon scores an amazing 3-points shot for the tie, De Colo loses the possession in penetration and Sloukas is perfect from the free throws line for the 83-81. Khryapa in tap-in sets again the tie, leaving just 1.9 seconds to the Fener attack. Udoh miss the last shot and it's overtime in Berlin!
Sloukas scores immediately by 3, De Colo reduces the distance with the free throws and Higgins finds two points in fast-break for the 87-86. Bogdanovic for the overtaking, Teodosic with the great assist for Hines and De Colo in penetration for the 91-88 with 2 minutes to the end. Udoh converts the assist of Datome, De Colo is cold with the free throws and, after the error of the Italian, Hines scores in tap-in for the +5. Khryapa blocks Kalinic, the seasonal MVP scores again after the foul and the 3-pointers of Dixon is for the -4, with only 30 seconds on the clock. Teodosic converts other two free throws, Datome scores by 3 but De Colo closes the game, 101-96 and CSKA is the 2016 Euroleague champion.

Lokomotiv Kuban wrapped up their EuroLeague season on a high note. The Krasnodar team fired past Laboral Kutxa in the Third Place Game.Malcolm Delaney (191-G-89, college:Virginia Tech) andRyan Broekhoff (200-F-90, college:Valparaiso, agency:Priority Sports) nailed 21 points each to pace the Russian team.
Lokomotiv Kuban got to an energetic start. They jumped to a 20:16 lead ten minutes into the game. Laboral Kutxa picked up the tempo in the second stanza. The Basque team erupted for 26 points in the period to secure a narrow 42:40 halftime advantage. However Lokomotiv responded with an 11:0 run in the third term to regain the advantage. Lokomotiv arrived at the final intermission up by 8 points 61:53. The Russian side quickly boosted the gap at 16-point mark in the fourth quarter. They kept Laboral Kutxa at bay throughout the reminder of the contest and marched to the win.Andrey Zubkov (205-F-91, agency:Alti Sport) finished with 11 points for Lokomotiv.Darius Adams (188-PG-89, college:Indianapolis, agency:Stealth Sport) responded with game-high 25 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for Laboral Kutxa.Davis Bertans (208-F-92) totaled 13 points in the defeat.
