The 2024 basketball season in Europe has delivered thrilling performances from some of the game’s brightest stars. From rising talents to seasoned veterans, the continent showcased a wealth of basketball excellence. Eurobasket.com is proud to unveil its annual European Awards, recognizing the top players for the 21st consecutive season. Here are the honorees, along with their club affiliations, season statistics, and notable achievements. All-Europe ranking applies to the players, who played in European leagues in last (23-24) and this (24-25) season so far, so it may apply also to non-European players, who played as imports in Europe. All-Europeans categories apply only to Europeans, but also those who played overseas (mostly in the NBA). All-Europe Awards All-Europe Player of the Year: Our Player of the Year 2024 is Kendrick Nunn who made a significant impact in European basketball with Panathinaikos. He played a pivotal role in the team's success, contributing to their EuroLeague championship victory. His outstanding performance earned him a spot on the All-EuroLeague First Team and the April/May MVP award. Nunn continues to take the EuroLeague by storm, averaging 20.1 points, 5.2 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per game this season. All-Europe First Team: Point Guard of the Year: TJ Shorts significantly impacted European competitios as the point guard for Paris Basketball. He led the team to victory in the EuroCup, earning both the EuroCup MVP and Finals MVP honors. Transitioning to the EuroLeague for the 2024-2025 season, Shorts continued to excel. By December 2024, he was averaging 19.3 points and 7.9 assists per game, positioning himself as a strong MVP candidate and leading Paris Basketball to a leading position in the competition. Shooting Guard of the Year: Small Forward of the Year: Nigel Hayes-Davis had a standout year. On March 29, he set a EuroLeague record by scoring 50 points in a 103–68 victory against Alba Berlin, surpassing the previous record of 49 points set by Shane Larkin in 2019. Throughout the 2024-2025 EuroLeague season, Hayes-Davis maintained impressive statistics, averaging 17.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.0 assist per game, with a Performance Index Rating (PIR) of 18.4. Power Forward of the Year: In 2024 Sasha Vezenkov experienced significant transitions in his career. After a brief stint in the NBA with the Sacramento Kings during the 2023-2024 season, where he averaged 5.4 points and 2.3 rebounds over 42 games, Vezenkov moved Olympiacos Piraeus in the Greek Basket League and the EuroLeague. His return bolstered Olympiacos's roster, contributing to their strong performance in the 2024-2025 EuroLeague season. Vezenkov's impact was evident as he earned multiple MVP of the Round honors, including in Rounds 2, 3, and 16, showcasing his scoring ability and leadership on the court. Center of the Year: Mathias Lessort had a year marked by significant achievements. As the starting center for Panathinaikos BC in the Greek Basket League and the EuroLeague, he played a pivotal role in the team's success. His contributions were instrumental in Panathinaikos securing the EuroLeague championship, and his exceptional performance earned him a spot on the All-EuroLeague First Team for the second consecutive year. During the summer, Lessort represented France in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The French national team delivered a strong performance, advancing to the finals after a notable victory over Germany in the semifinals. Lessort's defensive prowess and presence in the paint were significant factors in France's journey to securing the silver medal. Coach of the Year:Ergin Ataman (Anadolu Efes Istanbul) In 2024, Ergin Ataman, a distinguished Turkish basketball coach, led Panathinaikos BC to significant achievements in European basketball. Under his guidance, Panathinaikos secured their seventh EuroLeague title, the first since 2011, with a decisive victory over Real Madrid in the championship game. Player of the Year: Point Guard of the Year: Shooting Guard of the Year: Small Forward of the Year: Power Forward of the Year: Center of the Year: Coach of the Year:Ergin Ataman of Panathinaikos First Team Second Team Honorable Mention All-Europeans Awards All-Europeans Player of the Year: Nikola Jokic, the Serbian center for the Denver Nuggets, was unanimously named European Player of the Year as he continued to solidify his status as the NBA's premier player through a series of remarkable achievements and performances. In 2024 Jokic secured his third NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, joining an elite group of players with at least three MVPs, including legends like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Russell, and Michael Jordan. All-Europeans First Team: Point Guard of the Year: Luka Doncic continued to establish himself as one of the NBA's best players, achieving significant milestones both individually and with the Dallas Mavericks. For the fifth consecutive year, Doncic was named to the All-NBA First Team, underscoring his consistent excellence and surpassing Hall of Famer Dirk Nowitzki for the most First Team selections in Mavericks history. Doncic was also honored with the ESPY Award for Best NBA Player, recognizing his outstanding performance during the 2023-2024 season. Shooting Guard of the Year: Bogdan Bogdanovic, the Serbian shooting guard for the Atlanta Hawks, had a year marked by significant achievements. On December 11, 2023, Bogdanovic set a new career high by scoring 40 points, including 10 three-pointers, in a game against the Denver Nuggets. Throughout the 2023-2024 NBA season, he averaged 17.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game as a starter in 33 appearances. Small Forward of the Year: Franz Wagner, the German forward for the Orlando Magic, delivered a standout performance in 2024. Throughout the 2024-2025 NBA season, Wagner averaged so far 24.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game, showcasing his all-around game and offensive prowess. He also delivered an impressive performance during the 2024 Paris Olympics, significantly contributing to Germany's basketball team's success. Throughout the tournament, Wagner averaged 18.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.0 steals per game, earning a spot on the All-Second Team of the tournament. Power Forward of the Year: In 2024, Giannis Antetokounmpo continued to solidify his status as one of the NBA's premier players, delivering exceptional performances both domestically and internationally. Throughout the 2024-2025 NBA season, Antetokounmpo has been a dominant force, averaging 32.7 points per game, leading the league. He also contributes 11.6 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game, showcasing his versatility. His field goal percentage stands at 61.3%, ranking fifth in the league, reflecting his efficiency on the court. In December 2024, Antetokounmpo led the Milwaukee Bucks to victory in the Emirates NBA Cup, earning the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP) honors. Representing Greece, Antetokounmpo delivered a series of impressive performances during the 2024 Paris Olympics. He was a key contributor in Greece's games, showcasing his skills on the international stage. However, Greece did not secure a medal in the tournament.
