cIntheseventhmonth,onthetwenty-firstdayofthemonth,thewordoftheLordcamebythehandofHaggaitheprophet:SpeaknowtodZerubbabelthesonofShealtiel,governorofJudah,andtodJoshuathesonofJehozadak,thehighpriest,andtoalltheremnantofthepeople,andsay,eWhoisleftamongyouwhosawthishousefinitsformerglory?Howdoyouseeitnow?gIsitnotasnothinginyoureyes?Yetnowhbestrong,OdZerubbabel,declarestheLord.hBestrong,OdJoshua,sonofJehozadak,thehighpriest.hBestrong,allyoupeopleoftheland,declarestheLord.iWork,forjIamwithyou,declarestheLordofhosts,kaccordingtothecovenantthatImadewithyouwhenyoucameoutofEgypt.lMySpiritremainsinyourmidst.mFearnot.ForthussaystheLordofhosts:nYetoncemore,inalittlewhile,oIwillshaketheheavensandtheearthandtheseaandthedryland.AndIwillshakeallnations,sothatthetreasuresofallnationsshallcomein,andpIwillfillthishousewithglory,saystheLordofhosts.qThesilverismine,andthegoldismine,declarestheLordofhosts.rThelattergloryofthishouseshallbegreaterthantheformer,saystheLordofhosts.AndsinthisplaceIwillgivepeace,declarestheLordofhosts.

Blessings for a Defiled People

10 tOnthetwenty-fourthdayoftheninthmonth,uinthesecondyearofDarius,thewordoftheLordcamebyHaggaitheprophet,11 ThussaystheLordofhosts:vAskthepriestsaboutthelaw:12 Ifsomeonecarrieswholymeatinthefoldofhisgarmentandtoucheswithhisfoldbreadorsteworwineoroiloranykindoffood,doesitbecomeholy?Thepriestsansweredandsaid,xNo.13 ThenHaggaisaid,yIfsomeonewhoisuncleanbycontactwithadeadbodyztouchesanyofthese,doesitbecomeunclean?Thepriestsansweredandsaid,Itdoesbecomeunclean.14 ThenHaggaiansweredandsaid,aSoisitwiththispeople,andwiththisnationbeforeme,declarestheLord,andsowitheveryworkoftheirhands.Andwhattheyofferthereisunclean.15 Nowthen,bconsiderfromthisdayonward.1BeforestonewasplaceduponstoneinthetempleoftheLord,16 howdidyoufare?cWhen2onecametoaheapoftwentymeasures,therewerebutten.Whenonecametothewinevattodrawfiftymeasures,therewerebuttwenty.17 dIstruckyouandalltheproductsofyourtoilwithblightandwithmildewandwithhail,eyetyoudidnotturntome,declarestheLord.18 bConsiderfromthisdayonward,ffromthetwenty-fourthdayoftheninthmonth.SincegthedaythatthefoundationoftheLord’stemplewaslaid,bconsider:19 hIstheseedyetinthebarn?Indeed,thevine,thefigtree,thepomegranate,andtheolivetreehaveyieldednothing.ButfromthisdayoniIwillblessyou.

20 ThewordoftheLordcameasecondtimetoHaggaifonthetwenty-fourthdayofthemonth,21 SpeaktojZerubbabel,governorofJudah,saying,kIamabouttoshaketheheavensandtheearth,22 andltooverthrowthethroneofkingdoms.Iamabouttodestroythestrengthofthekingdomsofthenations,andmoverthrowthechariotsandtheirriders.Andthehorsesandtheirridersshallgodown,neveryonebytheswordofhisbrother.23 Onthatday,declarestheLordofhosts,Iwilltakeyou,OjZerubbabelomyservant,thesonofpShealtiel,declarestheLord,andmakeyouqlikea3signetring,oforIhavechosenyou,declarestheLordofhosts.

A Call to Return to theLord

Intheeighthmonth,ainthesecondyearofDarius,thewordoftheLordcametotheprophetbZechariah,thesonofcBerechiah,sonofdIddo,saying,eTheLordwasveryangrywithyourfathers.Thereforesaytothem,ThusdeclarestheLordofhosts:fReturntome,saystheLordofhosts,andgIwillreturntoyou,saystheLordofhosts.hDonotbelikeyourfathers,itowhomtheformerprophetscriedout,ThussaystheLordofhosts,fReturnfromyourevilwaysandfromyourevildeeds.Butjtheydidnothearorpayattentiontome,declarestheLord.Yourfathers,wherearethey?Andktheprophets,dotheyliveforever?lButmywordsandmystatutes,whichIcommandedmmyservantstheprophets,didtheynotnovertakeyourfathers?Sotheyrepentedandsaid,oAstheLordofhostspurposedtodealwithusforpourwaysandpdeeds,sohashedealtwithus.

A Vision of a Horseman

Onthetwenty-fourthdayoftheeleventhmonth,whichisthemonthofShebat,inthesecondyearofDarius,thewordoftheLordcametotheprophetbZechariah,thesonofcBerechiah,sonofdIddo,saying,Isawinthenight,andbehold,qamanridingonaredhorse!Hewasstandingamongthemyrtletreesintheglen,andbehindhimwererred,sorrel,andwhitehorses.ThenIsaid,Whatarethese,mylord?sTheangelwhotalkedwithmesaidtome,Iwillshowyouwhattheyare.10 Soqthemanwhowasstandingamongthemyrtletreesanswered,tThesearetheywhomtheLordhassenttoupatroltheearth.11 AndtheyansweredstheangeloftheLordwhowasstandingamongthemyrtletrees,andsaid,uWehavepatrolledtheearth,andbehold,alltheearthvremainsatrest.12 ThenstheangeloftheLordsaid,wOLordofhosts,whowlongwillyouxhavenomercyonJerusalemandthecitiesofJudah,againstwhichyouhavebeenangrytheseyseventyyears?13 AndtheLordansweredzgraciousandcomfortingwordstostheangelwhotalkedwithme.14 Sostheangelwhotalkedwithmesaidtome,Cryout,ThussaystheLordofhosts:aIamexceedinglyjealousforJerusalemandforZion.15 bAndIamexceedinglyangrywiththenationsthatarecatease;dforwhileIwasangrybutalittle,etheyfurtheredthedisaster.16 Therefore,thussaystheLord,fIhavereturnedtoJerusalemwithmercy;gmyhouseshallbebuiltinit,declarestheLordofhosts,andhthemeasuringlineshallbestretchedoutoverJerusalem.17 Cryoutagain,ThussaystheLordofhosts:iMycitiesshallagainoverflowwithprosperity,jandtheLordwillagaincomfortZionandagainkchooseJerusalem.

18 1AndIliftedmyeyesandsaw,andbehold,lfourhorns!19 AndIsaidtostheangelwhotalkedwithme,Whatarethese?Andhesaidtome,lThesearethehornsthathavescatteredJudah,Israel,andJerusalem.20 ThentheLordshowedmefourcraftsmen.21 AndIsaid,Whatarethesecomingtodo?Hesaid,lThesearethehornsthatscatteredJudah,sothatnooneraisedhishead.Andthesehavecomemtoterrifythem,tocastdownthehornsofthenationsnwholifteduptheirhornsagainstthelandofJudahtoscatterit.

A Vision of a Man with a Measuring Line

1AndIliftedmyeyesandsaw,andbehold,oamanwithameasuringlineinhishand!ThenIsaid,Whereareyougoing?Andhesaidtome,pTomeasureJerusalem,toseewhatisitswidthandwhatisitslength.Andbehold,qtheangelwhotalkedwithmecameforward,andanotherangelcameforwardtomeethimandsaidtohim,Run,saytothatyoungman,rJerusalemshallbeinhabitedsasvillageswithoutwalls,becauseoftthemultitudeofpeopleandlivestockinit.AndIwillbetoheruawalloffireallaround,declarestheLord,andIwillbethegloryinhermidst.

Up!Up!vFleefromthelandofthenorth,declarestheLord.ForIhavewspreadyouabroadasthefourwindsoftheheavens,declarestheLord.xUp!EscapetoZion,youwhodwellwiththedaughterofBabylon.ForthussaidtheLordofhosts,afterhisglorysentme2tothenationswhoplunderedyou,yforhewhotouchesyoutouchesztheappleofhiseye:Behold,aIwillshakemyhandoverthem,bandtheyshallbecomeplunderforthosewhoservedthem.ThencyouwillknowthattheLordofhostshassentme.10 dSingandrejoice,OdaughterofZion,forebehold,IcomefandIwilldwellinyourmidst,declarestheLord.11 gAndmanynationsshalljointhemselvestotheLordinthatday,andshallbemypeople.fAndIwilldwellinyourmidst,andcyoushallknowthattheLordofhostshassentmetoyou.12 hAndtheLordwillinheritJudahashisportionintheholyland,andwillagainichooseJerusalem.

13 Besilent,allflesh,beforetheLord,forhehasrousedhimselffromhisholydwelling.

A Vision of Joshua the High Priest

ThenheshowedmejJoshuathehighprieststandingbeforetheangeloftheLord,andkSatan1standingathisrighthandtoaccusehim.AndtheLordsaidtoSatan,lTheLordrebukeyou,OSatan!TheLordwhohasmchosenJerusalemrebukeyou!Isnotthisnabrand2pluckedfromthefire?NowjJoshuawasstandingbeforetheangel,oclothedwithfilthygarments.Andtheangelsaidtopthosewhowerestandingbeforehim,qRemovethefilthygarmentsfromhim.Andtohimhesaid,Behold,rIhavetakenyouriniquityawayfromyou,andsIwillclotheyouwithpurevestments.AndIsaid,tLetthemputacleanturbanonhishead.Sotheyputacleanturbanonhisheadandclothedhimwithgarments.AndtheangeloftheLordwasstandingby.

AndtheangeloftheLordsolemnlyassuredjJoshua,ThussaystheLordofhosts:Ifyouwillwalkinmywaysandukeepmycharge,thenyoushallvrulemyhouseandhavechargeofmycourts,andIwillgiveyoutherightofaccessamongwthosewhoarestandinghere.Hearnow,OJoshuathehighpriest,youandyourfriendswhositbeforeyou,forxtheyaremenwhoareasign:behold,IwillbringymyservantztheBranch.Forbehold,onathestonethatIhavesetbeforeJoshua,onasinglestonewithbseveneyes,3Iwillcengraveitsinscription,declarestheLordofhosts,anddIwillremovetheiniquityofthislandinasingleday.10 Inthatday,declarestheLordofhosts,everyoneofyouwillinvitehisneighbortocomeeunderhisvineandunderhisfigtree.

A Vision of a Golden Lampstand

Andftheangelwhotalkedwithmecameagaingandwokeme,likeamanwhoisawakenedoutofhissleep.Andhesaidtome,Whatdoyousee?Isaid,Isee,andbehold,halampstandallofgold,withabowlonthetopofit,andisevenlampsonit,withsevenlipsoneachofthelampsthatareonthetopofit.Andtherearejtwoolivetreesbyit,oneontherightofthebowlandtheotheronitsleft.AndIsaidtoftheangelwhotalkedwithme,Whatarethese,mylord?Thentheangelwhotalkedwithmeansweredandsaidtome,kDoyounotknowwhattheseare?Isaid,No,mylord.Thenhesaidtome,ThisisthewordoftheLordtolZerubbabel:mNotbymight,norbypower,butbymySpirit,saystheLordofhosts.Whoareyou,nOgreatmountain?BeforelZerubbabeloyoushallbecomeaplain.AndheshallbringforwardpthetopstoneamidshoutsofGrace,gracetoit!

ThenthewordoftheLordcametome,saying,qThehandsoflZerubbabelhavelaidthefoundationofthishouse;hishandsshallalsorcompleteit.sThenyouwillknowthattheLordofhostshassentmetoyou.10 tForwhoeverhasdespisedthedayofsmallthingsshallrejoice,andshallseeutheplumblineinthehandofZerubbabel.

vThesesevenvaretheeyesoftheLord,wwhichrangethroughthewholeearth.11 ThenIsaidtohim,Whatarethesejtwoolivetreesontherightandtheleftofthelampstand?12 AndasecondtimeIansweredandsaidtohim,Whatarethesejtwobranchesoftheolivetrees,whicharebesidethetwogoldenpipesfromwhichthegoldenoil1ispouredout?13 Hesaidtome,xDoyounotknowwhattheseare?Isaid,No,mylord.14 Thenhesaid,yThesearethetwoanointedones2whostandbyztheLordofthewholeearth.
