10 tOnthetwenty-fourthdayoftheninthmonth,uinthesecondyearofDarius,thewordoftheLordcamebyHaggaitheprophet,11 “ThussaystheLordofhosts:vAskthepriestsaboutthelaw:12 ‘Ifsomeonecarrieswholymeatinthefoldofhisgarmentandtoucheswithhisfoldbreadorsteworwineoroiloranykindoffood,doesitbecomeholy?’”Thepriestsansweredandsaid,x“No.”13 ThenHaggaisaid,y“Ifsomeonewhoisuncleanbycontactwithadeadbodyztouchesanyofthese,doesitbecomeunclean?”Thepriestsansweredandsaid,“Itdoesbecomeunclean.”14 ThenHaggaiansweredandsaid,a“Soisitwiththispeople,andwiththisnationbeforeme,declarestheLord,andsowitheveryworkoftheirhands.Andwhattheyofferthereisunclean.15 Nowthen,bconsiderfromthisdayonward.1BeforestonewasplaceduponstoneinthetempleoftheLord,16 howdidyoufare?cWhen2onecametoaheapoftwentymeasures,therewerebutten.Whenonecametothewinevattodrawfiftymeasures,therewerebuttwenty.17 dIstruckyouandalltheproductsofyourtoilwithblightandwithmildewandwithhail,eyetyoudidnotturntome,declarestheLord.18 bConsiderfromthisdayonward,ffromthetwenty-fourthdayoftheninthmonth.SincegthedaythatthefoundationoftheLord’stemplewaslaid,bconsider:19 hIstheseedyetinthebarn?Indeed,thevine,thefigtree,thepomegranate,andtheolivetreehaveyieldednothing.ButfromthisdayoniIwillblessyou.”

20 ThewordoftheLordcameasecondtimetoHaggaifonthetwenty-fourthdayofthemonth,21 “SpeaktojZerubbabel,governorofJudah,saying,kIamabouttoshaketheheavensandtheearth,22 andltooverthrowthethroneofkingdoms.Iamabouttodestroythestrengthofthekingdomsofthenations,andmoverthrowthechariotsandtheirriders.Andthehorsesandtheirridersshallgodown,neveryonebytheswordofhisbrother.23 Onthatday,declarestheLordofhosts,Iwilltakeyou,OjZerubbabelomyservant,thesonofpShealtiel,declarestheLord,andmakeyouqlikea3signetring,oforIhavechosenyou,declarestheLordofhosts.”

1 Intheeighthmonth,ainthesecondyearofDarius,thewordoftheLordcametotheprophetbZechariah,thesonofcBerechiah,sonofdIddo,saying,2 e“TheLordwasveryangrywithyourfathers.3 Thereforesaytothem,ThusdeclarestheLordofhosts:fReturntome,saystheLordofhosts,andgIwillreturntoyou,saystheLordofhosts.4 hDonotbelikeyourfathers,itowhomtheformerprophetscriedout,‘ThussaystheLordofhosts,fReturnfromyourevilwaysandfromyourevildeeds.’Butjtheydidnothearorpayattentiontome,declarestheLord.5 Yourfathers,wherearethey?Andktheprophets,dotheyliveforever?6 lButmywordsandmystatutes,whichIcommandedmmyservantstheprophets,didtheynotnovertakeyourfathers?Sotheyrepentedandsaid,o‘AstheLordofhostspurposedtodealwithusforpourwaysandpdeeds,sohashedealtwithus.’”

7 Onthetwenty-fourthdayoftheeleventhmonth,whichisthemonthofShebat,inthesecondyearofDarius,thewordoftheLordcametotheprophetbZechariah,thesonofcBerechiah,sonofdIddo,saying,8 “Isawinthenight,andbehold,qamanridingonaredhorse!Hewasstandingamongthemyrtletreesintheglen,andbehindhimwererred,sorrel,andwhitehorses.9 ThenIsaid,‘Whatarethese,mylord?’sTheangelwhotalkedwithmesaidtome,‘Iwillshowyouwhattheyare.’10 Soqthemanwhowasstandingamongthemyrtletreesanswered,t‘ThesearetheywhomtheLordhassenttoupatroltheearth.’11 AndtheyansweredstheangeloftheLordwhowasstandingamongthemyrtletrees,andsaid,u‘Wehavepatrolledtheearth,andbehold,alltheearthvremainsatrest.’12 ThenstheangeloftheLordsaid,w‘OLordofhosts,whowlongwillyouxhavenomercyonJerusalemandthecitiesofJudah,againstwhichyouhavebeenangrytheseyseventyyears?’13 AndtheLordansweredzgraciousandcomfortingwordstostheangelwhotalkedwithme.14 Sostheangelwhotalkedwithmesaidtome,‘Cryout,ThussaystheLordofhosts:aIamexceedinglyjealousforJerusalemandforZion.15 bAndIamexceedinglyangrywiththenationsthatarecatease;dforwhileIwasangrybutalittle,etheyfurtheredthedisaster.16 Therefore,thussaystheLord,fIhavereturnedtoJerusalemwithmercy;gmyhouseshallbebuiltinit,declarestheLordofhosts,andhthemeasuringlineshallbestretchedoutoverJerusalem.17 Cryoutagain,ThussaystheLordofhosts:iMycitiesshallagainoverflowwithprosperity,jandtheLordwillagaincomfortZionandagainkchooseJerusalem.’”

18 1AndIliftedmyeyesandsaw,andbehold,lfourhorns!19 AndIsaidtostheangelwhotalkedwithme,“Whatarethese?”Andhesaidtome,l“ThesearethehornsthathavescatteredJudah,Israel,andJerusalem.”20 ThentheLordshowedmefourcraftsmen.21 AndIsaid,“Whatarethesecomingtodo?”Hesaid,l“ThesearethehornsthatscatteredJudah,sothatnooneraisedhishead.Andthesehavecomemtoterrifythem,tocastdownthehornsofthenationsnwholifteduptheirhornsagainstthelandofJudahtoscatterit.”

6 AndtheangeloftheLordsolemnlyassuredjJoshua,7 “ThussaystheLordofhosts:Ifyouwillwalkinmywaysandukeepmycharge,thenyoushallvrulemyhouseandhavechargeofmycourts,andIwillgiveyoutherightofaccessamongwthosewhoarestandinghere.8 Hearnow,OJoshuathehighpriest,youandyourfriendswhositbeforeyou,forxtheyaremenwhoareasign:behold,IwillbringymyservantztheBranch.9 Forbehold,onathestonethatIhavesetbeforeJoshua,onasinglestonewithbseveneyes,3Iwillcengraveitsinscription,declarestheLordofhosts,anddIwillremovetheiniquityofthislandinasingleday.10 Inthatday,declarestheLordofhosts,everyoneofyouwillinvitehisneighbortocomeeunderhisvineandunderhisfigtree.”

4 Andftheangelwhotalkedwithmecameagaingandwokeme,likeamanwhoisawakenedoutofhissleep.2 Andhesaidtome,“Whatdoyousee?”Isaid,“Isee,andbehold,halampstandallofgold,withabowlonthetopofit,andisevenlampsonit,withsevenlipsoneachofthelampsthatareonthetopofit.3 Andtherearejtwoolivetreesbyit,oneontherightofthebowlandtheotheronitsleft.”4 AndIsaidtoftheangelwhotalkedwithme,“Whatarethese,mylord?”5 Thentheangelwhotalkedwithmeansweredandsaidtome,k“Doyounotknowwhattheseare?”Isaid,“No,mylord.”6 Thenhesaidtome,“ThisisthewordoftheLordtolZerubbabel:mNotbymight,norbypower,butbymySpirit,saystheLordofhosts.7 Whoareyou,nOgreatmountain?BeforelZerubbabeloyoushallbecomeaplain.Andheshallbringforwardpthetopstoneamidshoutsof‘Grace,gracetoit!’”
8 ThenthewordoftheLordcametome,saying,9 q“ThehandsoflZerubbabelhavelaidthefoundationofthishouse;hishandsshallalsorcompleteit.sThenyouwillknowthattheLordofhostshassentmetoyou.10 tForwhoeverhasdespisedthedayofsmallthingsshallrejoice,andshallseeutheplumblineinthehandofZerubbabel.
