The Parable of the Sower

Againvhebegantoteachbesidethesea.Andaverylargecrowdgatheredabouthim,wsothathegotintoaboatandsatinitonthesea,andthewholecrowdwasbesidetheseaontheland.Andxhewasteachingthemmanythingsinparables,andinhisteachinghesaidtothem:Listen!yBehold,asowerwentouttosow.Andashesowed,someseedfellalongthepath,andthebirdscameanddevouredit.Otherseedfellonrockyground,whereitdidnothavemuchsoil,andimmediatelyitsprangup,sinceithadnodepthofsoil.Andzwhenthesunrose,itwasscorched,andsinceithadnoroot,aitwitheredaway.Otherseedfellamongbthorns,andthethornsgrewupandchokedit,andityieldednograin.Andotherseedsfellintogoodsoilandproducedgrain,growingupandincreasingandyieldingthirtyfoldandsixtyfoldandcahundredfold.Andhesaid,dHewhohasearstohear,lethimhear.

The Purpose of the Parables

10 Andewhenhewasalone,thosearoundhimwiththetwelveaskedhimabouttheparables.11 Andhesaidtothem,fToyouhasbeengivengthesecretofthekingdomofGod,butforhthoseoutsideeverythingisinparables,12 isothat

theyjmayindeedseebutnotperceive,

andmayindeedhearbutnotunderstand,

lesttheykshouldturnandbeforgiven.

13 lAndhesaidtothem,Doyounotunderstandthisparable?Howthenwillyouunderstandalltheparables?14 mThesowersowsntheword.15 Andthesearetheonesalongthepath,wherethewordissown:whentheyhear,Satanimmediatelycomesandtakesawaythewordthatissowninthem.16 Andthesearetheonessownonrockyground:theoneswho,whentheyheartheword,immediatelyreceiveitowithjoy.17 Andtheyhavenorootinthemselves,butpendureforawhile;then,whentribulationorpersecutionarisesonaccountoftheword,immediatelyqtheyfallaway.118 Andothersaretheonessownamongthorns.Theyarethosewhoheartheword,19 butrthecaresofstheworldandtthedeceitfulnessofrichesandthedesiresforotherthingsenterinandchoketheword,anditprovesunfruitful.20 Butthosethatweresownonthegoodsoilaretheoneswhohearthewordandacceptitandubearfruit,vthirtyfoldandsixtyfoldandahundredfold.

A Lamp Under a Basket

21 wAndhesaidtothem,xIsalampbroughtintobeputunderabasket,orunderabed,andnotonastand?22 yFornothingishiddenexcepttobemademanifest;norisanythingsecretexcepttocometolight.23 zIfanyonehasearstohear,lethimhear.24 Andhesaidtothem,Payattentiontowhatyouhear:awiththemeasureyouuse,itwillbemeasuredtoyou,andstillmorewillbeaddedtoyou.25 bFortotheonewhohas,morewillbegiven,andfromtheonewhohasnot,evenwhathehaswillbetakenaway.

26 Andhesaid,cThekingdomofGodisasifamanshouldscatterseedontheground.27 Hesleepsandrisesnightandday,andtheseedsproutsandgrows;dheknowsnothow.28 Theearthproducesbyitself,firsttheblade,thentheear,thenthefullgrainintheear.29 Butwhenthegrainisripe,atonceeheputsinthesickle,becausetheharvesthascome.

30 fAndhesaid,WithwhatcanwecomparethekingdomofGod,orwhatparableshallweuseforit?31 Itislikegagrainofmustardseed,which,whensownontheground,isthesmallestofalltheseedsonearth,32 yetwhenitissownitgrowsupandbecomeslargerthanallthegardenplantsandputsoutlargebranches,sothatthebirdsoftheaircanmakenestsinitsshade.

33 hWithmanysuchparableshespokeithewordtothem,jastheywereabletohearit.34 Hedidnotspeaktothemkwithoutaparable,butlprivatelytohisowndiscipleshemexplainedeverything.

Jesus Calms a Storm

Jesus Heals a Man with a Demon

uTheycametotheothersideofthesea,tothecountryoftheGerasenes.1AndwhenJesus2hadsteppedoutoftheboat,immediatelytheremethimoutofthetombsamanwithanuncleanspirit.vHelivedamongthetombs.Andnoonecouldbindhimanymore,notevenwithachain,forhehadoftenbeenboundwithshacklesandchains,buthewrenchedthechainsapart,andhebroketheshacklesinpieces.Noonehadthestrengthtosubduehim.Nightanddayamongthetombsandonthemountainshewasalwayscryingoutandcuttinghimselfwithstones.AndwhenhesawJesusfromafar,heranandwfelldownbeforehim.Andxcryingoutwithaloudvoice,hesaid,Whathaveyoutodowithme,Jesus,ySonofztheMostHighGod?aIadjureyoubyGod,donottormentme.Forhewassayingtohim,Comeoutoftheman,youuncleanspirit!AndJesusaskedhim,Whatisyourname?Hereplied,MynameisbLegion,forwearemany.10 Andhebeggedhimearnestlynottosendthemoutofthecountry.11 Nowagreatherdofpigswasfeedingthereonthehillside,12 andtheybeggedhim,saying,Sendustothepigs;letusenterthem.13 Sohegavethempermission.Andtheuncleanspiritscameoutandenteredthepigs;andtheherd,numberingabouttwothousand,rusheddownthesteepbankintotheseaanddrownedinthesea.

14 Theherdsmenfledandtolditinthecityandinthecountry.Andpeoplecametoseewhatitwasthathadhappened.15 AndtheycametoJesusandsawthedemon-possessed3man,theonewhohadhadcthelegion,sittingthere,dclothedandinhisrightmind,andtheywereafraid.16 Andthosewhohadseenitdescribedtothemwhathadhappenedtothedemon-possessedmanandtothepigs.17 AndetheybegantobegJesus4todepartfromtheirregion.18 Ashewasgettingintotheboat,themanwhohadbeenpossessedwithdemonsbeggedhimthathemightbewithhim.19 Andhedidnotpermithimbutsaidtohim,GohometoyourfriendsandftellthemhowmuchtheLordhasdoneforyou,andhowhehashadmercyonyou.20 AndhewentawayandbegantoproclaimingtheDecapolishowmuchJesushaddoneforhim,andeveryonemarveled.

Jesus Heals a Woman and Jairus’s Daughter

21 AndwhenJesushadcrossedagainintheboattotheotherside,agreatcrowdgatheredabouthim,andhewasbesidethesea.22 hThencameoneofitherulersofthesynagogue,Jairusbyname,andseeinghim,hefellathisfeet23 andimploredhimearnestly,saying,Mylittledaughterisatthepointofdeath.Comeandjlayyourhandsonher,sothatshemaybemadewellandlive.24 Andhewentwithhim.

Andagreatcrowdfollowedhimandkthrongedabouthim.25 Andtherewasawomanlwhohadhadadischargeofbloodfortwelveyears,26 andwhohadsufferedmuchundermanyphysicians,andhadspentallthatshehad,andwasnobetterbutrathergrewworse.27 ShehadheardthereportsaboutJesusandcameupbehindhiminthecrowdandtouchedhisgarment.28 Forshesaid,IfItouchevenhisgarments,Iwillbemadewell.29 mAndimmediatelytheflowofblooddriedup,andshefeltinherbodythatshewashealedofherndisease.30 AndJesus,perceivinginhimselfthatopowerhadgoneoutfromhim,immediatelyturnedaboutinthecrowdandsaid,Whotouchedmygarments?31 Andhisdisciplessaidtohim,Youseethecrowdpressingaroundyou,andyetyousay,Whotouchedme?32 Andhelookedaroundtoseewhohaddoneit.33 Butthewoman,knowingwhathadhappenedtoher,cameinfearandtremblingandfelldownbeforehimandtoldhimthewholetruth.34 Andhesaidtoher,Daughter,pyourfaithhasmadeyouwell;pgoinpeace,andbehealedofyourndisease.

35 Whilehewasstillspeaking,therecamefromqtheruler’shousesomewhosaid,Yourdaughterisdead.WhyrtroublestheTeacheranyfurther?36 Butoverhearing5whattheysaid,Jesussaidtoqtherulerofthesynagogue,Donotfear,onlybelieve.37 AndheallowednoonetofollowhimexcepttPeterandJamesanduJohnthebrotherofJames.38 Theycametothehouseoftherulerofthesynagogue,andJesus6sawacommotion,peopleweepingandwailingloudly.39 Andwhenhehadentered,hesaidtothem,vWhyareyoumakingacommotionandweeping?Thechildisnotdeadbutwsleeping.40 Andtheylaughedathim.Buthexputthemalloutsideandtookthechild’sfatherandmotherandthosewhowerewithhimandwentinwherethechildwas.41 yTakingherbythehandhesaidtoher,Talithacumi,whichmeans,Littlegirl,Isaytoyou,zarise.42 Andimmediatelythegirlgotupandbeganwalking(forshewastwelveyearsofage),andtheywereimmediatelyovercomewithamazement.43 Andahestrictlychargedthemthatnooneshouldknowthis,andtoldthemtogivehersomethingtoeat.

YouleavethecommandmentofGodandholdtothetraditionofmen.
