30 ^j“Youshallmake^kanaltaronwhichtoburnincense;youshallmakeitofacaciawood.2 Acubit¹shallbeitslength,andacubititsbreadth.Itshallbesquare,andtwocubitsshallbeitsheight.^lItshornsshallbeofonepiecewithit.3 Youshall^moverlayitwithpuregold,itstopandarounditssidesanditshorns.Andyoushallmakeamoldingofgoldaroundit.4 Andyoushallmaketwogoldenringsforit.Underitsmoldingontwooppositesidesofityoushallmakethem,andtheyshallbeⁿholdersforpoleswithwhichtocarryit.5 Youshallmakethepolesofacaciawoodandoverlaythemwithgold.6 Andyoushallputitinfrontoftheveilthatisabovethearkofthetestimony,infrontofthe^omercyseatthatisabovethetestimony,whereIwillmeetwithyou.7 AndAaronshall^pburnfragrantincenseonit.Everymorningwhenhe^qdressesthelampsheshallburnit,8 andwhenAaronsetsupthelampsattwilight,heshallburnit,aregularincenseofferingbeforetheLordthroughoutyourgenerations.9 Youshallnotoffer^runauthorizedincenseonit,oraburntoffering,oragrainoffering,andyoushallnotpouradrinkofferingonit.10 ^sAaronshallmakeatonementonitshornsonceayear.Withthebloodofthe^tsinofferingofatonementheshallmakeatonementforitonceintheyearthroughoutyourgenerations.ItismostholytotheLord.”

The Census Tax

11 TheLordsaidtoMoses,12 ^u“WhenyoutakethecensusofthepeopleofIsrael,theneachshallgive^varansomforhislifetotheLordwhenyounumberthem,thattherebenoplagueamongthemwhenyounumberthem.13 Eachonewhoisnumberedinthecensusshallgivethis:halfashekel²accordingtothe^wshekelofthesanctuary(the^xshekelistwentygerahs),^3yhalfashekelasanofferingtotheLord.14 Everyonewhoisnumberedinthecensus,fromtwentyyearsoldandupward,shallgivetheLord’soffering.15 Therichshallnotgivemore,andthepoorshallnotgiveless,than^ythehalfshekel,whenyougivetheLord’sofferingtomakeatonementforyourlives.16 YoushalltaketheatonementmoneyfromthepeopleofIsraelandshall^zgiveitfortheserviceofthetentofmeeting,thatitmaybringthepeopleofIsraelto^aremembrancebeforetheLord,soastomakeatonementforyourlives.”

The Bronze Basin

17 TheLordsaidtoMoses,18 “Youshallalsomakea^bbasinofbronze,withitsstandofbronze,forwashing.^bYoushallputitbetweenthetentofmeetingandthealtar,andyoushallputwaterinit,19 withwhichAaronandhissons^cshallwashtheirhandsandtheirfeet.20 Whentheygointothetentofmeeting,orwhentheycomenearthealtartominister,toburnafoodoffering⁴totheLord,theyshallwashwithwater,sothattheymaynotdie.21 Theyshallwashtheirhandsandtheirfeet,sothattheymaynotdie.Itshall^dbeastatuteforevertothem,eventohimandtohisoffspringthroughouttheirgenerations.”

The Anointing Oil and Incense

22 TheLordsaidtoMoses,23 “Takethe^efinestspices:ofliquidmyrrh500shekels,andofsweet-smellingcinnamonhalfasmuch,thatis,250,and250of^faromaticcane,24 and500ofcassia,accordingtotheshekelofthesanctuary,anda^ghin⁵ofoliveoil.25 Andyoushallmakeoftheseasacredanointingoilblendedasbythe^hperfumer;itshallbeaⁱholyanointingoil.26 ^jWithityoushallanointthetentofmeetingandthearkofthetestimony,27 andthetableandallitsutensils,andthelampstandanditsutensils,andthealtarofincense,28 andthealtarofburntofferingwithallitsutensilsandthe^kbasinanditsstand.29 Youshallconsecratethem,thattheymaybemostholy.^lWhatevertouchesthemwillbecomeholy.30 ^mYoushallanointAaronandhissons,andconsecratethem,thattheymayservemeaspriests.31 AndyoushallsaytothepeopleofIsrael,‘Thisshallbemyholyanointingoilthroughoutyourgenerations.32 Itshallnotbepouredonthebodyofanordinaryperson,andyoushallmakenootherlikeitincomposition.ⁿItisholy,anditshallbeholytoyou.33 ^oWhoevercompoundsanylikeitorwhoeverputsanyofitonanoutsidershallbecutofffromhispeople.’”

34 TheLordsaidtoMoses,^p“Takesweetspices,stacte,andonycha,andgalbanum,sweetspiceswithpurefrankincense(ofeachshalltherebeanequalpart),35 andmakean^qincenseblendedasbythe^rperfumer,^sseasonedwithsalt,pureandholy.36 Youshallbeatsomeofitverysmall,andputpartofitbeforethetestimonyinthetentofmeeting^twhereIshallmeetwithyou.^uItshallbemostholyforyou.37 Andtheincensethatyoushallmake^vaccordingtoitscomposition,youshallnotmakeforyourselves.ItshallbeforyouholytotheLord.38 ^wWhoevermakesanylikeittouseasperfumeshallbecutofffromhispeople.”

Oholiab and Bezalel

31 TheLordsaidtoMoses,2 “See,Ihavecalledbyname^xBezalelthesonofUri,sonof^yHur,ofthetribeofJudah,3 andIhave^zfilledhimwiththeSpiritofGod,withabilityandintelligence,withknowledgeandallcraftsmanship,4 todeviseartisticdesigns,toworkingold,silver,andbronze,5 incuttingstonesforsetting,andincarvingwood,toworkineverycraft.6 Andbehold,Ihaveappointedwithhim^aOholiab,thesonofAhisamach,ofthetribeofDan.AndIhavegiventoallablemen^bability,thattheymaymakeallthatIhavecommandedyou:7 ^cthetentofmeeting,and^dthearkofthetestimony,and^ethemercyseatthatisonit,andallthefurnishingsofthetent,8 ^fthetableanditsutensils,and^gthepurelampstandwithallitsutensils,and^hthealtarofincense,9 andⁱthealtarofburntofferingwithallitsutensils,and^jthebasinanditsstand,10 and^kthefinelyworkedgarments,¹theholygarmentsforAaronthepriestandthegarmentsofhissons,fortheirserviceaspriests,11 and^ltheanointingoilandthefragrant^mincensefortheHolyPlace.AccordingtoallthatIhavecommandedyou,theyshalldo.”

The Sabbath

12 AndtheLordsaidtoMoses,13 “YouaretospeaktothepeopleofIsraelandsay,‘AboveallyoushallkeepmySabbaths,forthisisasignbetweenmeandyouthroughoutyourgenerations,thatyoumayknowthatI,theLord,sanctifyyou.14 YoushallkeeptheSabbath,becauseitisholyforyou.Everyonewhoprofanesitshallbeputtodeath.ⁿWhoeverdoesanyworkonit,thatsoulshallbecutofffromamonghispeople.15 ^oSixdaysshallworkbedone,but^ptheseventhdayisaSabbathofsolemnrest,holytotheLord.ⁿWhoeverdoesanyworkontheSabbathdayshallbeputtodeath.16 ThereforethepeopleofIsraelshallkeeptheSabbath,observingtheSabbaththroughouttheirgenerations,asacovenantforever.17 ^qItisasignforeverbetweenmeandthepeopleofIsraelthat^rinsixdaystheLordmadetheheavensandtheearth,and^sontheseventhdayherestedandwasrefreshed.’”

18 AndhegavetoMoses,whenhehadfinishedspeakingwithhimonMountSinai,the^ttwotabletsofthetestimony,tabletsofstone,writtenwith^uthefingerofGod.

The Golden Calf

32 WhenthepeoplesawthatMoses^vdelayedtocomedownfromthemountain,thepeoplegatheredthemselvestogethertoAaronandsaidtohim,^w“Up,makeusgodswhoshall^xgobeforeus.AsforthisMoses,themanwhobroughtusupoutofthelandofEgypt,wedonotknowwhathasbecomeofhim.”2 SoAaronsaidtothem,“Takeoffthe^yringsofgoldthatareintheearsofyourwives,yoursons,andyourdaughters,andbringthemtome.”3 SoallthepeopletookofftheringsofgoldthatwereintheirearsandbroughtthemtoAaron.4 ^zAndhereceivedthegoldfromtheirhandandfashioneditwithagravingtoolandmadeagolden¹calf.Andtheysaid,^a“Theseareyourgods,OIsrael,whobroughtyouupoutofthelandofEgypt!”5 WhenAaronsawthis,hebuiltanaltarbeforeit.AndAaron^bmadeaproclamationandsaid,“TomorrowshallbeafeasttotheLord.”6 Andtheyroseupearlythenextdayandofferedburntofferingsandbroughtpeaceofferings.And^cthepeoplesatdowntoeatanddrinkandroseup^dtoplay.

7 AndtheLordsaidtoMoses,^e“Godown,foryourpeople,whomyoubroughtupoutofthelandofEgypt,have^fcorruptedthemselves.8 Theyhaveturnedasidequicklyoutofthewaythat^gIcommandedthem.Theyhavemadeforthemselvesagoldencalfandhaveworshipeditandsacrificedtoitandsaid,‘Theseareyourgods,OIsrael,whobroughtyouupoutofthelandofEgypt!’”9 AndtheLordsaidtoMoses,“Ihaveseenthispeople,andbehold,^hitisastiff-neckedpeople.10 Nowthereforeⁱletmealone,that^jmywrathmayburnhotagainstthemand^kImayconsumethem,inorderthat^lImaymakeagreatnationofyou.”

11 But^mMosesimploredtheLordhisGodandsaid,“OLord,whydoesyourwrathburnhotagainstyourpeople,whomyouhavebroughtoutofthelandofEgyptwithgreatpowerandwithamightyhand?12 ⁿWhyshouldtheEgyptianssay,‘Withevilintentdidhebringthemout,tokilltheminthemountainsandtoconsumethemfromthefaceoftheearth’?Turnfromyourburningangerand^orelentfromthisdisasteragainstyourpeople.13 RememberAbraham,Isaac,andIsrael,yourservants,towhomyou^psworebyyourownself,andsaidtothem,^q‘Iwillmultiplyyouroffspringasthestarsofheaven,andallthislandthatIhavepromisedIwillgivetoyouroffspring,andtheyshallinherititforever.’”14 AndtheLord^rrelentedfromthedisasterthathehadspokenofbringingonhispeople.

15 Then^sMosesturnedandwentdownfromthemountainwiththe^ttwotabletsofthetestimonyinhishand,tabletsthatwerewrittenonbothsides;onthefrontandonthebacktheywerewritten.16 ^uThetabletsweretheworkofGod,andthewritingwasthewritingofGod,engravedonthetablets.17 When^vJoshuaheardthenoiseofthepeopleastheyshouted,hesaidtoMoses,“Thereisanoiseofwarinthecamp.”18 Buthesaid,“Itisnotthesoundof^wshoutingforvictory,orthesoundofthecryofdefeat,butthesoundofsingingthatIhear.”19 Andassoonashecamenearthecampand^xsawthecalfandthedancing,Moses’angerburnedhot,andhethrewthetabletsoutofhishandsandbrokethematthefootofthemountain.20 HetookthecalfthattheyhadmadeandburneditwithfireandgroundittopowderandscattereditonthewaterandmadethepeopleofIsraeldrinkit.

21 AndMosessaidtoAaron,^y“Whatdidthispeopledotoyouthatyouhavebroughtsuchagreatsinuponthem?”22 AndAaronsaid,“Letnottheangerofmylordburnhot.^zYouknowthepeople,thattheyaresetonevil.23 For^atheysaidtome,‘Makeusgodswhoshallgobeforeus.AsforthisMoses,themanwhobroughtusupoutofthelandofEgypt,wedonotknowwhathasbecomeofhim.’24 So^bIsaidtothem,‘Letanywhohavegoldtakeitoff.’Sotheygaveittome,andIthrewitintothefire,andoutcamethiscalf.”

25 AndwhenMosessawthatthepeoplehadbrokenloose(forAaronhadletthembreakloose,^ctothederisionoftheirenemies),26 thenMosesstoodinthegateofthecampandsaid,“WhoisontheLord’sside?Cometome.”AndallthesonsofLevigatheredaroundhim.27 Andhesaidtothem,“ThussaystheLordGodofIsrael,‘Putyourswordonyoursideeachofyou,andgotoandfrofromgatetogatethroughoutthecamp,andeachofyou^dkillhisbrotherandhiscompanionandhisneighbor.’”28 AndthesonsofLevididaccordingtothewordofMoses.Andthatdayaboutthreethousandmenofthepeoplefell.29 AndMosessaid,“Todayyouhavebeen^eordainedfortheserviceoftheLord,eachoneatthecostofhissonandofhisbrother,sothathemightbestowablessinguponyouthisday.”

30 ThenextdayMosessaidtothepeople,^f“Youhavesinnedagreatsin.AndnowIwillgouptotheLord;^gperhapsIcanmakeatonementforyoursin.”31 SoMosesreturnedtotheLordandsaid,“Alas,^fthispeoplehassinnedagreatsin.Theyhave^hmadeforthemselvesgodsofgold.32 Butnow,ifⁱyouwillforgivetheirsin—butifnot,please^jblotmeoutof^kyourbookthatyouhavewritten.”33 ButtheLordsaidtoMoses,^l“Whoeverhassinnedagainstme,Iwillblotoutofmybook.34 ^mButnowgo,leadthepeopletotheplaceaboutwhichIhavespokentoyou;ⁿbehold,myangelshallgobeforeyou.Nevertheless,inthedaywhenIvisit,Iwillvisittheirsinuponthem.”

35 ThentheLordsentaplagueonthepeople,becausetheymadethecalf,theonethatAaronmade.

The Command to Leave Sinai

33 TheLordsaidtoMoses,“Depart;goupfromhere,you^oandthepeoplewhomyouhavebroughtupoutofthelandofEgypt,tothelandofwhichIsworetoAbraham,Isaac,andJacob,saying,‘To^pyouroffspringIwillgiveit.’2 Iwillsendan^qangelbeforeyou,^randIwilldriveouttheCanaanites,theAmorites,theHittites,thePerizzites,theHivites,andtheJebusites.3 ^sGouptoalandflowingwithmilkandhoney;^tbutIwillnotgoupamongyou,^ulestIconsumeyouontheway,foryouarea^vstiff-neckedpeople.”

4 Whenthepeopleheardthisdisastrousword,they^wmourned,and^xnooneputonhisornaments.5 FortheLordhadsaidtoMoses,“SaytothepeopleofIsrael,‘Youarea^vstiff-neckedpeople;ifforasinglemomentIshouldgoupamongyou,Iwould^yconsumeyou.Sonow^xtakeoffyourornaments,thatImayknowwhattodowithyou.’”6 ThereforethepeopleofIsraelstrippedthemselvesoftheirornaments,fromMountHorebonward.

The Tent of Meeting

7 NowMosesusedtotakethetentandpitchitoutsidethecamp,farofffromthecamp,and^zhecalleditthetentofmeeting.Andeveryonewho^asoughttheLordwouldgoouttothetentofmeeting,whichwasoutsidethecamp.8 WheneverMoseswentouttothetent,allthepeoplewouldriseup,and^beachwouldstandathistentdoor,andwatchMosesuntilhehadgoneintothetent.9 WhenMosesenteredthetent,the^cpillarofcloudwoulddescendandstandattheentranceofthetent,andtheLord¹wouldspeakwithMoses.10 Andwhenallthepeoplesawthepillarofcloudstandingattheentranceofthetent,allthepeoplewouldriseupandworship,eachathistentdoor.11 Thus^dtheLordusedtospeaktoMosesfacetoface,asamanspeakstohisfriend.WhenMosesturnedagainintothecamp,his^eassistantJoshuathesonofNun,ayoungman,wouldnotdepartfromthetent.

Moses’ Intercession

12 MosessaidtotheLord,“See,^fyousaytome,‘Bringupthispeople,’butyouhavenotletmeknowwhomyouwillsendwithme.Yetyouhavesaid,^g‘Iknowyoubyname,andyouhavealsofoundfavorinmysight.’13 Nowtherefore,ifIhavefoundfavorinyoursight,please^hshowmenowyourways,thatImayknowyouinordertofindfavorinyoursight.Considertoothatthisnationisⁱyourpeople.”14 Andhesaid,^j“Mypresencewillgowithyou,and^kIwillgiveyourest.”15 Andhesaidtohim,^l“Ifyourpresencewillnotgowithme,donotbringusupfromhere.16 ForhowshallitbeknownthatIhavefoundfavorinyoursight,Iandyourpeople?^mIsitnotinyourgoingwithus,ⁿsothatwearedistinct,Iandyourpeople,fromeveryotherpeopleonthefaceoftheearth?”

17 AndtheLordsaidtoMoses,“ThisverythingthatyouhavespokenIwilldo,^oforyouhavefoundfavorinmysight,andIknowyoubyname.”18 Mosessaid,“Please^pshowmeyourglory.”19 Andhesaid,^q“Iwillmakeallmygoodnesspassbeforeyouandwillproclaimbeforeyoumyname‘TheLord.’And^rIwillbegracioustowhomIwillbegracious,andwillshowmercyonwhomIwillshowmercy.20 But,”hesaid,“youcannotseemyface,for^smanshallnotseemeandlive.”21 AndtheLordsaid,“Behold,thereisaplacebymewhereyoushallstandontherock,22 andwhilemyglorypassesbyIwillputyouina^tcleftoftherock,andIwill^ucoveryouwithmyhanduntilIhavepassedby.23 ThenIwilltakeawaymyhand,andyoushallseemyback,butmyfaceshall^vnotbeseen.”

Moses Makes New Tablets

34 TheLordsaidtoMoses,^w“Cutforyourselftwotabletsofstonelikethefirst,^xandIwillwriteonthetabletsthewordsthatwereonthefirsttablets,^ywhichyoubroke.2 Bereadybythemorning,andcomeupinthemorningtoMountSinai,andpresentyourselftheretome^zonthetopofthemountain.3 No^aoneshallcomeupwithyou,andletnoonebeseenthroughoutallthemountain.Letnoflocksorherdsgrazeoppositethatmountain.”4 SoMosescuttwotabletsofstonelikethefirst.AndheroseearlyinthemorningandwentuponMountSinai,astheLordhadcommandedhim,andtookinhishandtwotabletsofstone.5 TheLord^bdescendedinthecloudandstoodwithhimthere,and^cproclaimedthenameoftheLord.6 TheLordpassedbeforehimandproclaimed,^d“TheLord,theLord,aGodmercifuland^egracious,slowtoanger,andaboundinginsteadfast^floveandfaithfulness,7 ^gkeepingsteadfastloveforthousands,^1hforgivinginiquityandtransgressionandsin,butⁱwhowillbynomeanscleartheguilty,^jvisitingtheiniquityofthefathersonthechildrenandthechildren’schildren,tothethirdandthefourthgeneration.”8 AndMosesquickly^kbowedhisheadtowardtheearthandworshiped.9 Andhesaid,“IfnowIhavefoundfavorinyoursight,OLord,please^llettheLordgointhemidstofus,for^mitisastiff-neckedpeople,andpardonouriniquityandoursin,andtakeusforⁿyourinheritance.”

The Covenant Renewed

10 Andhesaid,“Behold,^oIammakingacovenant.Beforeallyourpeople^pIwilldomarvels,suchashavenotbeencreatedinalltheearthorinanynation.AndallthepeopleamongwhomyouareshallseetheworkoftheLord,foritisan^qawesomethingthatIwilldowithyou.
