19 OnthethirdnewmoonafterthepeopleofIsraelhadgoneoutofthelandofEgypt,onthatdaytheypcameintothewildernessofSinai.2 TheysetoutfromqRephidimandcameintothewildernessofSinai,andtheyencampedinthewilderness.ThereIsraelencampedbeforerthemountain,3 whilesMoseswentuptoGod.tTheLordcalledtohimoutofthemountain,saying,“ThusyoushallsaytothehouseofJacob,andtellthepeopleofIsrael:4 u‘YouyourselveshaveseenwhatIdidtotheEgyptians,andhowvIboreyouoneagles’wingsandbroughtyoutomyself.5 Nowtherefore,ifyouwillindeedobeymyvoiceandkeepmycovenant,youshallbewmytreasuredpossessionamongallpeoples,forxalltheearthismine;6 andyoushallbetomeaykingdomofpriestsandzaholynation.’ThesearethewordsthatyoushallspeaktothepeopleofIsrael.”
7 SoMosescameandcalledtheeldersofthepeopleandsetbeforethemallthesewordsthattheLordhadcommandedhim.8 aAllthepeopleansweredtogetherandsaid,“AllthattheLordhasspokenwewilldo.”AndMosesreportedthewordsofthepeopletotheLord.9 AndtheLordsaidtoMoses,“Behold,Iamcomingtoyoubinathickcloud,thatcthepeoplemayhearwhenIspeakwithyou,andmayalsodbelieveyouforever.”
WhenMosestoldthewordsofthepeopletotheLord,10 theLordsaidtoMoses,“Gotothepeopleandeconsecratethemtodayandtomorrow,andletthemfwashtheirgarments11 andbereadyforthethirdday.ForonthethirddaygtheLordwillcomedownonMountSinaiinthesightofallthepeople.12 Andyoushallsetlimitsforthepeopleallaround,saying,‘Takecarenottogoupintothemountainortouchtheedgeofit.hWhoevertouchesthemountainshallbeputtodeath.13 Nohandshalltouchhim,butheshallbestonedorshot;1whetherbeastorman,heshallnotlive.’Whenithetrumpetsoundsalongblast,theyshallcomeuptothemountain.”14 SoMosesjwentdownfromthemountaintothepeopleandeconsecratedthepeople;fandtheywashedtheirgarments.15 Andhesaidtothepeople,“Bereadyforthekthirdday;ldonotgonearawoman.”
16 Onthemorningofthekthirddaythereweremthundersandlightningsandnathickcloudonthemountainandaveryloudotrumpetblast,sothatallthepeopleinthecampptrembled.17 ThenqMosesbroughtthepeopleoutofthecamptomeetGod,andtheytooktheirstandatthefootofthemountain.18 NowrMountSinaiwaswrappedinsmokebecausetheLordhaddescendedonitinfire.Thesmokeofitwentuplikethesmokeofakiln,andsthewholemountaintrembledgreatly.19 Andastheosoundofthetrumpetgrewlouderandlouder,Mosesspoke,andtGodansweredhiminthunder.20 TheLordcamedownonMountSinai,tothetopofthemountain.AndtheLordcalledMosestothetopofthemountain,andMoseswentup.
21 AndtheLordsaidtoMoses,“Godownandwarnthepeople,lesttheybreakthroughtotheLordutolookandmanyofthemperish.22 AlsoletthepriestswhocomeneartotheLordvconsecratethemselves,lesttheLordwbreakoutagainstthem.”23 AndMosessaidtotheLord,“ThepeoplecannotcomeuptoMountSinai,foryouyourselfwarnedus,saying,x‘Setlimitsaroundthemountainandconsecrateit.’”24 AndtheLordsaidtohim,“Godown,andcomeupbringingAaronwithyou.ButdonotletthepriestsandthepeopleybreakthroughtocomeuptotheLord,lesthebreakoutagainstthem.”25 SoMoseswentdowntothepeopleandtoldthem.

4 d“Youshallnotmakeforyourselfacarvedimage,oranylikenessofanythingthatisinheavenabove,orthatisintheearthbeneath,orthatisinthewaterundertheearth.5 eYoushallnotbowdowntothemorservethem,forItheLordyourGodamfajealousGod,gvisitingtheiniquityofthefathersonthechildrentothethirdandfourthgenerationofthosewhohateme,6 butshowingsteadfastlovetothousands2ofthosewholovemeandkeepmycommandments.
7 h“YoushallnottakethenameoftheLordyourGodinvain,fortheLordwillnotholdhimguiltlesswhotakeshisnameinvain.
8 i“RemembertheSabbathday,tokeepitholy.9 jSixdaysyoushalllabor,anddoallyourwork,10 butthekseventhdayisaSabbathtotheLordyourGod.Onityoushallnotdoanywork,you,oryourson,oryourdaughter,yourmaleservant,oryourfemaleservant,oryourlivestock,orthelsojournerwhoiswithinyourgates.11 ForminsixdaystheLordmadetheheavensandtheearth,thesea,andallthatisinthem,andrestedontheseventhday.ThereforetheLordblessedtheSabbathdayandmadeitholy.
12 n“Honoryourfatherandyourmother,othatyourdaysmaybelonginthelandthattheLordyourGodisgivingyou.

16 s“Youshallnotbearfalsewitnessagainstyourneighbor.
17 t“Youshallnotcovetuyourneighbor’shouse;vyoushallnotcovetyourneighbor’swife,orhismaleservant,orhisfemaleservant,orhisox,orhisdonkey,oranythingthatisyourneighbor’s.”
18 Nowwhenallthepeoplesawwthethunderandtheflashesoflightningandthesoundofthetrumpetandthemountainsmoking,thepeoplewereafraid4andtrembled,andtheystoodfaroff19 andsaidtoMoses,x“Youspeaktous,andwewilllisten;butdonotletGodspeaktous,lestwedie.”20 yMosessaidtothepeople,“Donotfear,forGodhascometoztestyou,thatthefearofhimmaybebeforeyou,thatyoumaynotsin.”21 Thepeoplestoodfaroff,whileMosesdrewneartotheathickdarknesswhereGodwas.

12 n“Whoeverstrikesamansothathediesshallbeputtodeath.13 oButifhedidnotlieinwaitforhim,butGodlethimfallintohishand,thenpIwillappointforyouaplacetowhichhemayflee.14 Butifamanwillfullyattacksanothertokillhimbycunning,qyoushalltakehimfrommyaltar,thathemaydie.
15 “Whoeverstrikeshisfatherorhismothershallbeputtodeath.

17 t“Whoevercurses3hisfatherorhismothershallbeputtodeath.
18 “Whenmenquarrelandonestrikestheotherwithastoneorwithhisfistandthemandoesnotdiebuttakestohisbed,19 thenifthemanrisesagainandwalksoutdoorswithhisstaff,hewhostruckhimshallbeclear;onlyheshallpayforthelossofhistime,andshallhavehimthoroughlyhealed.
20 “Whenamanstrikeshisslave,maleorfemale,witharodandtheslavediesunderhishand,heshallbeavenged.21 Butiftheslavesurvivesadayortwo,heisnottobeavenged,fortheuslaveishismoney.
22 “Whenmenstrivetogetherandhitapregnantwoman,sothatherchildrencomeout,butthereisnoharm,theonewhohithershallsurelybefined,asthewoman’shusbandshallimposeonhim,andvheshallpayasthewjudgesdetermine.23 Butifthereisharm,4thenyoushallpayxlifeforlife,24 yeyeforeye,toothfortooth,handforhand,footforfoot,25 burnforburn,woundforwound,stripeforstripe.
26 “Whenamanstrikestheeyeofhisslave,maleorfemale,anddestroysit,heshalllettheslavegofreebecauseofhiseye.27 Ifheknocksoutthetoothofhisslave,maleorfemale,heshalllettheslavegofreebecauseofhistooth.
28 “Whenanoxgoresamanorawomantodeath,thezoxshallbestoned,anditsfleshshallnotbeeaten,buttheowneroftheoxshallnotbeliable.29 Butiftheoxhasbeenaccustomedtogoreinthepast,anditsownerhasbeenwarnedbuthasnotkeptitin,anditkillsamanorawoman,theoxshallbestoned,anditsowneralsoshallbeputtodeath.30 Ifaaransomisimposedonhim,thenvheshallgivefortheredemptionofhislifewhateverisimposedonhim.31 Ifitgoresaman’ssonordaughter,heshallbedealtwithaccordingtothissamerule.32 Iftheoxgoresaslave,maleorfemale,theownershallgivetotheirmasterbthirtyshekels5ofsilver,andztheoxshallbestoned.

22 “Ifamanstealsanoxorasheep,andkillsitorsellsit,heshallrepayfiveoxenforanox,andcfoursheepforasheep.2 1Ifathiefisfounddbreakinginandisstrucksothathedies,thereshallbenobloodguiltforhim,3 butifthesunhasrisenonhim,thereshallbebloodguiltforhim.He2shallsurelypay.Ifhehasnothing,theneheshallbesoldforhistheft.4 Ifthestolenbeastfisfoundaliveinhispossession,whetheritisanoxoradonkeyorasheep,gheshallpaydouble.
5 “Ifamancausesafieldorvineyardtobegrazedover,orletshisbeastlooseanditfeedsinanotherman’sfield,heshallmakerestitutionfromthebestinhisownfieldandinhisownvineyard.
6 “Iffirebreaksoutandcatchesinthornssothatthestackedgrainorthestandinggrainorthefieldisconsumed,hewhostartedthefireshallmakefullrestitution.
7 “Ifamangivestohisneighbormoneyorgoodstokeepsafe,anditisstolenfromtheman’shouse,then,ifthethiefisfound,gheshallpaydouble.8 Ifthethiefisnotfound,theownerofthehouseshallcomeneartoGodtoshowwhetherornothehasputhishandtohisneighbor’sproperty.9 Foreverybreachoftrust,whetheritisforanox,foradonkey,forasheep,foracloak,orforanykindoflostthing,ofwhichonesays,‘Thisisit,’thecaseofbothpartiesshallcomebeforeGod.TheonewhomGodcondemnsshallpaydoubletohisneighbor.
10 “Ifamangivestohisneighboradonkeyoranoxorasheeporanybeasttokeepsafe,anditdiesorisinjuredorisdrivenaway,withoutanyoneseeingit,11 hanoathbytheLordshallbebetweenthembothtoseewhetherornothehasputhishandtohisneighbor’sproperty.Theownershallaccepttheoath,andheshallnotmakerestitution.12 Butifiitisstolenfromhim,heshallmakerestitutiontoitsowner.13 Ifitistornbybeasts,lethimbringitasevidence.Heshallnotmakerestitutionforwhathasbeentorn.
14 “Ifamanborrowsanythingofhisneighbor,anditisinjuredordies,theownernotbeingwithit,heshallmakefullrestitution.15 Iftheownerwaswithit,heshallnotmakerestitution;ifitwashired,itcameforitshiringfee.3

22 “ButifyoucarefullyobeyhisvoiceanddoallthatIsay,thenbIwillbeanenemytoyourenemiesandanadversarytoyouradversaries.
23 y“WhenmyangelgoesbeforeyouandbringsyouctotheAmoritesandtheHittitesandthePerizzitesandtheCanaanites,theHivitesandtheJebusites,andIblotthemout,24 youshalldnotbowdowntotheirgodsnorservethem,enordoastheydo,butfyoushallutterlyoverthrowthemandbreaktheirgpillarsinpieces.25 YouhshallservetheLordyourGod,andihe1willblessyourbreadandyourwater,andjIwilltakesicknessawayfromamongyou.26 kNoneshallmiscarryorbebarreninyourland;Iwillfulfillthelnumberofyourdays.27 Iwillsendmmyterrorbeforeyouandwillthrowintonconfusionallthepeopleagainstwhomyoushallcome,andIwillmakeallyourenemiesturntheirbackstoyou.28 AndoIwillsendhornets2beforeyou,whichshalldriveouttheHivites,theCanaanites,andtheHittitesfrombeforeyou.29 pIwillnotdrivethemoutfrombeforeyouinoneyear,lestthelandbecomedesolateandthewildbeastsmultiplyagainstyou.30 LittlebylittleIwilldrivethemoutfrombeforeyou,untilyouhaveincreasedandpossesstheland.31 qAndIwillsetyourborderfromtheRedSeatotheSeaofthePhilistines,andfromthewildernesstotheEuphrates,3forrIwillgivetheinhabitantsofthelandintoyourhand,andyoushalldrivethemoutbeforeyou.32 sYoushallmakenocovenantwiththemandtheirgods.33 Theyshallnotdwellinyourland,lesttheymakeyousinagainstme;forifyouservetheirgods,titwillsurelybeasnaretoyou.”
