18 Thenthekingansweredthewoman,“DonothidefrommeanythingIaskyou.”Andthewomansaid,“Letmylordthekingspeak.”19 Thekingsaid,“IsthehandofJoabwithyouinallthis?”Thewomanansweredandsaid,n“Assurelyasyoulive,mylordtheking,onecannotturntotherighthandortotheleftfromanythingthatmylordthekinghassaid.ItwasyourservantJoabwhocommandedme;oitwashewhoputallthesewordsinthemouthofyourservant.20 InordertochangethecourseofthingsyourservantJoabdidthis.ButmylordhaswisdomlikethewisdomofmtheangelofGodtoknowallthingsthatareontheearth.”
21 ThenthekingsaidtoJoab,“Beholdnow,Igrantthis;go,bringbacktheyoungmanAbsalom.”22 AndJoabfellonhisfacetothegroundandpaidhomagepandblessedtheking.AndJoabsaid,“TodayyourservantknowsthatIhavefoundfavorinyoursight,mylordtheking,inthatthekinghasgrantedtherequestofhisservant.”23 SoJoabaroseandwenttoqGeshurandbroughtAbsalomtoJerusalem.24 Andthekingsaid,“Lethimdwellapartinhisownhouse;heisnottocomeintomypresence.”SoAbsalomlivedapartinhisownhouseanddidnotcomeintotheking’spresence.
25 NowinallIsraeltherewasnoonesomuchtobepraisedforhishandsomeappearanceasAbsalom.rFromthesoleofhisfoottothecrownofhisheadtherewasnoblemishinhim.26 Andwhenhecutthehairofhishead(forattheendofeveryyearheusedtocutit;whenitwasheavyonhim,hescutit),heweighedthehairofhishead,twohundredshekels1bytheking’sweight.27 TherewerebornttoAbsalomthreesons,andonedaughterwhosenamewasTamar.Shewasabeautifulwoman.

9 ThenAbishaithesonofZeruiahsaidtotheking,“Whyshouldthisadeaddogbcursemylordtheking?Letmegooverandtakeoffhishead.”10 Butthekingsaid,c“WhathaveItodowithyou,dyousonsofZeruiah?IfheiscursingbecausetheLordhassaidtohim,‘CurseDavid,’whothenshallsay,‘Whyhaveyoudoneso?’”11 AndDavidsaidtoAbishaiandtoallhisservants,“Behold,emyownsonseeksmylife;howmuchmorenowmaythisBenjaminite!Leavehimalone,andlethimcurse,fortheLordhastoldhimto.12 ItmaybethattheLordwilllookonthewrongdonetome,1andthattheLordwillrepaymewithgoodforhiscursingtoday.”13 SoDavidandhismenwentontheroad,whileShimeiwentalongonthehillsideoppositehimandfcursedashewentandthrewstonesathimandflungdust.14 Andtheking,andallthepeoplewhowerewithhim,garrivedwearyattheJordan.2Andthereherefreshedhimself.

20 ThenAbsalomsaidtoAhithophel,“Giveyourcounsel.Whatshallwedo?”21 AhithophelsaidtoAbsalom,“Gointolyourfather’sconcubines,whomhehaslefttokeepthehouse,andallIsraelwillhearthatyouhavemadeyourselfastenchtoyourfather,andmthehandsofallwhoarewithyouwillbestrengthened.”22 SotheypitchedatentforAbsalomnontheroof.AndAbsalomwentintohisfather’sconcubinesointhesightofallIsrael.23 NowinthosedaysthecounselthatAhithophelgavewasasifoneconsultedthewordofGod;sowasallthecounselofAhithophelesteemed,pbothbyDavidandbyAbsalom.
