  • RAL Classic - e.g. RAL XXXXRAL CLASSICcolour 4-digit references have been an accepted format for colour definition for more than 70 years.
    This basic collection consists of more than 210 colours and is available as a fan-deck, booklet or chart in a gloss or semi-matt finish.
    RAL is a colour matching system originating in Germany, is widely used in Europe but is now becoming increasingly international. In colloquial speechRAL refers to the RAL Classic system, mainly used for varnish and powder coating and for "items", architectural or industrial products

  • RAL Design - e.g. RAL XXX YY ZZRAL DESIGN(7-digit) colour references have been developed for advanced colour management - e.g. for designers, architects and advertising agencies.

    TheRAL Designsystem consists of 1625 colours and assists with colour harmonies and is referenced in terms of hue, lightness and chroma.

  • RAL Effect - e.g. RAL XXX-YTheRAL Effectrange (3+1 digits) consists of 420 solid colours and 70 metallic colours, based on waterborne paint systems.
    Each colour family has 6 solid colours and a harmonious, matching metallic colour.
    The RAL Effect colours comply with relevant European EN and ISO standards regarding heavy metals.

  • BS 4800 - e.g. BS XX A YYBritish Standard BS 4800 (last revised in 2011) for paint colours used in building construction. It incorporates many well known decorative colours in the UK, such as Magnolia and Gardenia.
    It is a subset of BS 5252.

  • BS 2660 - e.g. BS X-YYYBritish Standard BS 2660 is an older standard for paint colours used in building construction - now virtually replaced by BS 4800.View here
  • BS 381C - e.g. BS XXXBS 381C:1996 is a British Standard for colours used in identification, coding and other special purposes. It has been used largely by the UK military and other government or previously nationalised institutions.View here
  • BS 5252 - e.g. BS XX A YYBS 5252is the British Standard framework for colour co-ordination for building purposes and incorporates derived standards such as those for paints (BS 4800), vitreous enamel (BS 4900), plastics (BS 4901), sheet and tile flooring (BS 4902).

  • NCS 2050 - e.g. S XXXX-BYYGTheNatural Color System (NCS) is a proprietary perceptual color model published by the Scandinavian Colour Institute (Skandinaviska Färginstitutet AB) of Stockholm, Sweden.

  • Pantone (PMS) Coated (C) - e.g. XXX or YYYYThePantone Color Matching System is largely a standardized color reproduction system for inks and printing.

    The "C" range refers to colours applied to coated paper.

  • Munsell color system - e.g. 2.5GY 5/4Munsell color order system is based on a three-dimensional model depicted in the Munsell color tree as a color notation and ordering system. Each color has three qualities or attributes - hue, value and chroma. It and was the official color system for soil research, but now used extensively in other applications.View here
