TheChevrolet Corvette C8.R race car has been unveiled alongside theStingray convertible.

Designed for the GT Le Mans racing series, the C8.R follows the mid-engine format of the road-goingCorvette range.

While the race car bears a very close visual resemblance to the street-legal coupe, practically every exterior panel looks to be unique.

The front and rear wheel arches are wider, and there are new wing mirrors, latches for the bonnet and rear engine cover, and plenty of exposed screws.

Naturally, the Corvette's aerodynamics package has substantially revised. Up front, there's a larger lower air intake with a series of flics on the side.

The sills have grown significantly, while at the rear there's a massive wing and diffuser combination, and a pair of large exhaust tips pointing upwards. The C8.R rides on 18-inch wheels with Michelin racing slicks.

Chevrolet has not released any technical specifications about the C8.R, but it's rumoured to have a free-revving V8 with a flat-plane crank.

The C8.R will make its track debut at the Rolex 24 Hour at Daytona in January next year. The Corvette Racing team's vehicles will feature a new silver with yellow livery (seen here), and a more traditional yellow scheme with silver accents.

The new road-legal Corvette coupe has been confirmed for Australia, and will be produced in America in right-hand drive. It will arrive in local showrooms from late 2020 or early 2021.
