Agreed.  I dual boot Linux Mint and it's really easy to get around.  The Unix command line takes some getting used to compared to Windows, otherwise using Mint is quite similar to Windows.

It could be a 3rd party application that you're running on both machines.  You could try removing installed applications from one machine and check if the problem goes away
